View Full Version : What happened to the TMNT Documentary?

Hi everyone!!

So I have not been around the boards much as of late. Life has been crazy, I am a freelance camera operator so as they say: "when it rains in pours!"

I thought I would update those who are interested, with some Turtle Doc info.

Well over a year ago I was sitting in my studio beside a pile of Turtle toys thinking how cool it would be to see a documentary on the subject, and how even cooler it would be to be involved with that show.

Who knew that within the year all of this crazy dream would come true and explode light years beyond my wildest expectations.

As those of you who were involved in shooting, or maybe have been following our progress with the show I believe we were telling everyone that the film would be released in some form during the summer. I regret to say this will not likely be the case. At this point shooting is more or less on hold, however there are still some directions we would like to go and people we would like to see.

Here is the thing... for any TMNT fan out there this doc should blow your mind, I can't say to much now as there are rights clearances to go through and so on, but lets just say there is material that NO ONE has ever seen before. From the oldest TMNT archives comes some very interesting visuals in a wide verity of mediums.... Am I confusing enough yet? There is so much stuff that it would take you almost three days and nights strait to see it all at one time.

From the origins, the beginnings of a toy deal and some crazy directions they could have gone, to the most recent advances in the Turtle universe. There isn't much we haven't covered yet, and we share some of you along the way which has been amazing!

The sad part is I don't have an answer as to when you can see this product on store shelves. There is still much to be done, deals to be made, and more stories to capture. I will keep you all posted as we move along.

Thanks all! And I can't wait to share some Turtle Power with you all!

Thanks for the update. I was wondering how far the project had left to go. Just don't let the project die... I'd really like to see the finished product. :D

hahah Dude thanks for acknowledging that... the statement quiet frankly makes my mind explode. I have heard people say that on here before. If you don't want to buy it then HEY no problem, that is totally cool, but don't say you want to see it and not pay for it... that sucks.:ohwell: Man I now know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of internet piracy. Everyone is entitled to everything for free.... Wow, makes me want to work hard for people. Sorry, but that was a bummer man.

Don't be bummed. Me, Jester and Powder all said we'd buy it lol.

But seriously, you're doing a great thing for TMNT. After seeing the trailer I really think this will cause more people to get into the franchise.

Cool, thanks guys!!

The thing is, that trailer is... NOTHING. IT was simply a rough edit of some of our interviews to be shown to some very special producers. I edited it at 3AM in a Hotel somewhere in Scranton... I think.

The real deal is going to be huge! Lets just keep our figures crossed because we have a lot of cool stuff we would love to share!!

You ever think of doing some kind of pre order promo?

So how's the cover art coming along? I know you got some up, but I'm not crazy about any of them (some are good, just not perfect for this DVD).

Thanks again everyone!

We hope that this show can reach out there far beyond the reaches of the internet community! Because there are so many Turtle fans out there, far more that represented here, but we love the support this community has to offer for sure!!

In regards to both the DVD pre-order question and the cover art. As you might be able to tell by my eluding post here, we are in kind of a strange limbo. In fact as of today there may be more plans to pursue new and additional interviews for content. However the fact still remains that we actually don't know exactly where or how this thing will be distributed. We have back-up plans, and ultimately it will be available in some form on a mass market. There are just a few possibilities on the table that we will need some time to work out first. These deciding factors may change how much control we would have over the end product, so things like cover art may be out of our control, that said! We love what we are getting! And fully intend on using it in any way we possibly can!!

Thanks again all!

As you have probably noticed I just threw up a post about those toys I have sitting on my desk. I also threw it up on GGM with a little blurb about the doc.

I feel like things are coming, but I really don't know. As you can imagine things are all in transition with the new buy out. We have the best possible representation with our Executive Producers, so we are just crossing our fingers. There is an unbelievable amount of content and a truly amazing story to share!! I hope we can release the best possible movie for you guys... and I hope I can give you some news soon!

This is an interesting statement. What do you mean exactly? Do you think peoples interests in the doc will fade with time?

I think he means interest in turtles is "cooling". He's right but once the new series and all that is out interest will be up again.

Exactly. Most casual fans are either in the process of or are mothballing their memories of TMNT right now. I'd hate to have to wait another two years to check out your work, but you'll probably get more viewers/customers that way.

Well your right, I would agree that waiting to share this stuff does suck, but in the long run your both right in the release of all the new Turtle stuff that is coming it would be a better time to release the doc. That said, there has been talk in of the Doc prefacing the movies and new releases as part of the hype of the new Turtle phase, but again this all remains to be seen. I should hope at some point you will at least get to see some more sneak peeks and cool stuff in the next little while when things are straitened out on our end and we are able to do so. So I will keep everyone in the loop.

At the Toronto Con we showed 15 or more minutes of content from the doc, it was a potential "scene" or short section from the opening of what would be the actual doc. It showcased some of the origin story, which yes we all know more or less. However it was nicely spliced together with all the major players as the story evolved including artists, Mark Freedman and major comic store owners from the time. It also included some archive footage that is extremely rare and was a HUGE bonus never before seen sneak peek, but no one seemed to understand or get what they were looking at. Then we went into a little bit of the "toy section" and just teased with a few things in there. This was followed by a short "highlight reel" with short trailer clips of other parts of the doc, this section also included a VERY big nod to potential archive content, but again people didn't seem to pick up on it... oh well we will all have to wait and see what happens now.

The short answer... I am sorry to say we will be holding off on releasing anything until we get more news and confirmations on our end.

Hey guys! I am guessing maybe you read my post over on the "prop" thread. I honestly cant say to much. As you can imagine we have as many questions as (I hope) all of you have in regards to the doc and the new film. We still have our producers over there, anything regarding the release or further shooting with the doc is on hold until things are all worked out. We are looking at the possibilities of re-developing the website and all the trailers and updated clips. I will let the community know as we look to develop that direction. The guys and I are looking at discussing things again soon, we have all just been really busy trying to keep bills payed and other customers happy! hahaha. One thing to keep in mind, I am always watching these boards whether I post or not, I am keeping a thumb on the pulse of the fandom. We want to bring you what you are looking for in documentary content, interviews, still images, behind the scenes footage, stories, you name it. I am watching and listening to what you want. This can be translated down the road... just a thought. Lots to look forward to in all things Turtles in the years to come! Keep it real!

Ya it was Toronto. The guys and I have brought this up a couple times. I don't want to put that specific short section up as it was a little rushed and not a polished piece of our best work. There is talk of getting something up for sure, but things have been busy and not a lot of discussion has been happening as of late. You bringing it up does put it in mind though. I will try to get on them early April, as for the next week I am on night shoots from 7 to 7, so not really existing in the real world haha.

Any chance you'll be able to score some interviews with Nickelodeon since the sale? They've been pretty hush about it since the buyout.
