View Full Version : TMNT References

So I was just reading the TMNT Wikipedia page and noticed that they don't have a references part for the TMNT. So let's post what references or cameos or anything TMNT has been in or referenced in any types of media.

Television/Movies:

In the show Fresh Prince of Bel Air, some workmen bring in green chairs and Hilary tells them to take it out because it's not a Ninja Turtle party.

In the show Full House, TMNT is referenced in many episode, especially in one where Joey is caught with Ninja Turtle slippers, and is played a fool because of that.

Music:

In the song by Lil Wayne, Kush, he says:
Keep a bandanna like the Ninja Turtles

Also, in another song, Duffle Bag Boy Remix he says:

Nothing makes the situation better than cheddar
And I'm cutting through that cheese like a shredder
So i guess I'm famous like a ninja turtle

Well, that's it! Post the TMNT references you've spotted in any types of media!

In the CD booklet for Metallica's Master of Puppets it says:

"Also xtra ****en yahooz to...Carlsberg Bevees; Sushi; Absolut Vodka; Alka Seltzer; The Young Ones; Remoulade; Skykow; Boom Shankar; Teenage Mutant Ninja-Turtles; and most of all... Edna!!!!"

I dunno if it says the same thing in the vinyl, but that would be kinda neat, since the album is from 1986 i.e. before the tv show :P

It was hilarous the coffin was a big green shell with a pizza on it.

I remember back in 2003 in a contest called The Weakest Link there was a question "Who painted the Sistine Chapel?" and the guy didn't know the answer. When they ran out of time, the hoster asked him "Ever heard of Michelangelo?" and the guy answered "Yeah, he was one of the Ninja Turtles, right?" Everybody laughs.

A turtles, I believe Donatello, shows up in an episodes of South Park called Fantasy Land I think.

Tiffany watches the Golden Girls all the time they make a reference to them in there.

I have a friend who listens to a horrible band named Horse The Band. They did a terrible cover of the theme song on an EP and fashioned it after a pizza.

In Tiny Toons there was the Ninja Slugs or something like that and their arch nemesis was the Salter I think.

That's all I can remember now I'll post more if anything comes to mind.

I dunno if it says the same thing in the vinyl, but that would be kinda neat, since the album is from 1986 i.e. before the tv show :P

In one episode of King of the Hill Bobby puts on a Ninja Turtles shirt.

In the series Dinosaurs in Robbie's room you can see a poster with some cavemen that are dressed like the turtles and the poster say's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Cavemen".

In think in the first episode of Two and a Half Men, Charlie says he wrote the Ninja Turtles theme song and starts singing some of the song.

I remember in the series "Reaper" when the main character Sam first met a girl named Cady, she was stopping her mum from selling her ninja turtles toys.

There's also a ref in "Fairly Odd Parents: Channel Chasers" where you see the credits for an apparent show called Karate Kows which look like cow version of the ninja turtles.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

In the Movie Loaded Weapon (think the english Title was National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon) the Mainprotagonist enters Aprils Apartment (from the first Movie) and sees the Turtles playing a Game.

In the theme song to the Samurai Pizza Kats they sang: "they've got more fur than any turtle ever had"

And on the german Late Night Comedy Show "Freitag Nacht News" (Friday Night News) there was once a breef scene where the reporter said, that the german Police, after failing so often, was now replaced by the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles :D

In the Animaiacs episode, Hooked on a Ceiling where the Warner Brothers (and their sister Dot) torment Renaissance artist Michelangelo, in the opening of the scene a narrator explains to us who Michelangelo is and that popular culture has made us forget that Michelangelo is an artist, not a Turtle. The Turtles even appear on screen one saying "Hey, watch it, Dude." ala Michelangelo. The actor who does the parody Turtle's voice is TMNT's own Rob Paulsen.

In a X-Men cartoon episode Jubilee said on going off in the Blackbird, and complaining that "At least the Turtles had a pizza warmer in their van..."

Super mario brothers cartoon featured an episode called giant evil ninja koopas or something and the koopa kids have black bandanas and the weapons of the turtles. Also on the venture brothers the redhead has a dream where a shadowed figure gives him a revelation (shaped like master splinter). In regards to that thing someone said about two and a half men, that was a special parody, the guys who did the OT turtles theme did the TAHM theme too.

A few more...

In the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers episode The Trouble with Shellshock, Shellshock says "Wait till those Teenage Mutants see what a full-grown turtle can do!"

I also remember an issue of Wolverine were Pierce has arrived back from travelling through time. When Lady Deathstrike asks if he made any changes to the timeline he answers that he doesn't think anyone will miss that fifth Ninja Turtle.

Another one from a questionable era of comics; an issue of Amazing Spider-Man during Ben Reilly's tenure had Mysterio kidnap Ben and make him believe he'd been shrunk down to action figure and being attacked by toys including a Ninja Turtle. The turtle toy even features on the cover.

Actually, the creator of TaHM (Chuck Lorre) was one of the guys who wrote all of the music for the OT, along with D.C. Brown (who does the music for all of Chucks sitcoms).

Back in the late 90s there was a short-lived sitcom on ABC called Teen Angel about a teenager named Marty who dies after eating a rancid burger and winds up becoming his best friend's guardian angel. Anyway in one episode I remember the friend saying to Marty "I haven't seen you this upset since you found out the Ninja Turtles aren't real."

I saw a rerun of SNL once from 1990 where Dennis Miller made a ninja turtles joke on weekend update. He said something like an old Japanese man was suing the creators of the ninja turtles for copying his comic teenage mutant samurai slugs.

Another random memory. In the movie "Car 54 where are you", there is a rap song playing in the being and the rapper says "this ain't no ninja turtles". I think the movie came out in '94.

"You know, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set box office records again this week. The movie brought in one point five million dollars in L.A., two point three million dollars in New York and an astonishing seventeen million dollars in the Galapagos Islands.

And Art Buchwald - Art Buchwald has sued the makers of the Turtles this week, saying the concept was stolen from an original screenplay he submitted years ago entitled Adolescent Hybrid Samurai Toads."

A parody, yeah. They called it Immature Radioactive Samurai Slugs. Plucky Duck was the fanboy who talked Hamton J. Pig into cosplaying it. Then, they ran into the real nemesis of the IRSS, the Iodizer (Jim Cummings with salt-shakers for fingers).

All that said, I never cared for Tiny Toon Adventures.

Supernatural - there’s an angel called Raphael, and when Dean first hears about him, he says “You were wasted by a teenage mutant ninja angel?"

I always thought about Raph when they talked about that angel, and this line didn't make it any easier to take the angel seriously..

I just realized like a week ago after seeing Despicable Me 2 for the third time that At the end, when the Minions are cured and Gru confronts El Macho, he drinks PX-41 serum and grows into a giant purple monster. The canister looked very familiar and then it hit me:
It's a reference to SotO! With Super Shredder! OMG yay I figgered it out.:D

Sorry for the necropost and being my first post here as well. ^_^;

I think I found the most obscure reference ever. In the Korean movie "...Ing" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...ing), at first I thought the pet turtles the main characters kept and the odd name choice of Leonardo as a hypothetical boyfriend were just a coincidence. Then the ending made me certain these were little references. After Min-ah dies, Young-jae displays one of his photos of her in an art gallery. It was a photo of her uncovered 3-fingered ectrodactyly hand. I think it's more of the director adding these references for kicks than making it a plot point or something.

Back to me lurking...

In the 2 Broke Girls episode "And The Buttercream Breakthrough", Max says to Caroline "The only thing you have to watch out for on the subway are the Ninja Turtles" or something like that.
Max talks about the Turtles again in an episode of season 3, but I can't remember which one.

In the Angel episode "I Will Remember You", Buffy refers to a demon as a Mutant Ninja demon thing.

In the Big Bang Theory episode "The Guts Displacement", Sheldon sings the tmnt 1987 theme song.

The tv show Republic of Telly referenced tmnt 1987 along with other 80s/90s cartoons in their cartoon battle comedy sketch as shown in the video below.
