When GoGreenMachine.Org was created, it's intention was to be a collaborative project to bring people from all corners of the Ninja Turtle Multi-verse together. To centralize the passion, creativity, and love we have for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles so that we could enjoy them on a level that had not previously been possible. While we think we have gone a long way toward this goal, we aren't there yet. Which is why, today, I am pleased to announce our newest project:

Go Green Machine! - A Collection of Fan-tasic Art and Stories (Working Title)

After quite some time of sorting permissions and working out logistics, GoGreenMachine.Org is taking the next step in bringing the fans together and making your voices heard. We are publishing a book! But who is going to write this masterpiece? You Are.

Starting immediately, GoGreenMachine.Org will begin taking submissions of fan generated TMNT related art, photos, fiction, personal profiles, stories, and anything else you can think of! A large selection of these works will be chosen to be included in the publication. This book is going to be created by the fans, for the fans. Our goal is to create a high quality tome of content that each of you can be proud of and allow you to make your mark in the mythos of the TMNT. You've given so much of yourself to the boys in green. Now it's time for you to show the world.

Rules For Submission:
In an effort to not stifle creative juices, we would like to set as few rules as possible. If we are going to use something you submit but it needs to be modified for whatever reason, we will work with you to make it right. But please, no nudity or overtly sexual themes or scenes. Swearing and ninja-violence is ok.

All submissions must be 100% created BY YOU, and not have been published in anything else before.

What We Are Looking For:
Although we are hoping that people suprise us with content we didn't even KNOW we were looking for, here is a list of ideas to get your brain jumping:

Art - This can be something you've done recently or something from your childhood
Photos - Were you at an event? Meet the Mirage gang at a Con? Run into Kevin at the supermarket? Or just had a Turtle-rific 8th birthday party? We want to see it!
Life Stories - If you've read this far into this announcement, chances are, the Turtles have touched your lives in amazing ways none of us could even dream of. So tell us!
Fiction - Are you one of those very talented writers who love putting our heroes in death defying situations? Tell us a story.

How To Submit:
Submit any entries directly to our administrator at: [email protected]

All submissions must be accompanied by a high resolution photo of yourself (strongly encouraged, but optional), and a breif bio. These will most likely be included in the publication somehow to give each of you proper credit.

The Fine Print:
In submitting anything to us for publication, you are automatically stating that we have the right to publish your work without any compensation to you. Understand that you are doing this because you want to be part of something bigger than yourself, not because you are looking for a payday.

While we do not take ownership of any of the material you submit, we would ask that you not use these materials in future official publications. Blogs, social netowrking sites, etc are fine.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: Am I getting paid for this?
A: No. No compensation will be given. As mentioned before, you are doing this out of love your our fandom, and to make your mark in the turtle universe.

Q: Are YOU getting paid for this?
A: Yes and No. Publishing this book is most likely going to be very, very expensive. Currently, GoGreenMachine plans to publish the book ourselves. Out of our own pocket (somewhat fitting given the origin of the Turtles). So we can promise you that any money we make off these books will go to repaying our investment, funding the site (which is also paid for out of pocket by us), and investing into further TMNT fan projects. The bottom line is that this is a labor of love. You don't walk away rich from something like this.

Q: When is the book going to be released?
A: We are shooting for a release in the neighborhood of the 2011 Turtles movie. That is of course, subject to change.

Q: If I submit material, am I guaranteed to be in the book?
A: Unfortunately No. The book will undoubtedly have a page limit, and if we get as large of a response as we are hoping, we are going to have to be selective.

Q: What is the deadline for submission?
A: Currently there isn't one. So just send us stuff till we tell you to stop.

Q: Is there a limit to the number of submissions I can make?
A: Not officially, just use your best judgement.

Q: I would like to help fund, distribute, produce, edit, or design this book.
A: If you would like to help with the project in some other way than content submission, you may contact our administrator at [email protected]. Relevent work experience in graphic arts, design, consumer products, etc. will most likely be required.

Any other inquires can be made to our administrator at [email protected]

This Project is offically public knowledge, so please, spread the word!

GO GREEN MACHINE!

Is there a problem if there is overlap with the TMNT documentary? I sent Isacc some old childhood pictures and fine print said if it is published already somewhere... granted, his project is also a work in progress...

I'd be interested in helping with this, but I do have a few...questions reguarding your regulations. Should I email them to the above address?

At first I though it was going to be a fan-made comic book with a bunch of stories wrote and drawn by us(searching around board members for people with good writing and drawing skills, to make a bunch of teams of 2 and create a few short stories).

But as far as pictures are concerned, I don't know what I have. I guess I could find my birthday pic from when I was a kid. Year after year I received nothing but TMNT-related stuff. I couldn't believe it when I saw the pics a few years ago. That, with I guess a text to back it up.

sounds neat! As far as the comic book idea is concerned, the scope of the book is definately MUCH bigger than a single comic book. However if you wanted to do a strip or a mini-comic Im sure that would be neat.

I've got such a tough choice here... finally get something of mine published... or continue my tradition of not participating.

Why is sending a photo of yourself a submission requirement? We can't contribute without having our faces revealed?

We can't contribute without having our faces revealed? But then you run the risk of including work by ugly people too. And no one wants that.

I'm a frequent writer, but almost never a fan-fiction writer. That said, I do have a Turtles piece or two that I dabbled with a while back, so I suppose I'll pull one out and revise it.

Because I wanted to set up some really nice profiles. But I suppose I never considered peoples varying levels of self esteem. While I think it's kind of tragic that people wanting to contribute and be recognized would want to omit a photo. I suppose you could.

Original post edited to reflect the optional nature of this requirement.

Like a one page bio, history, how we got into TMNT, what we like about it, etc., complimented with pictures we might have drawn in our childhood or otherwise of the TMNT... is that right?

Yup! Ofcourse this is all kind of vision at the moment. I'm sort of waiting to see what I get from the fans before I lock down any kind of format. But yes, id like the profiles section to be something like that. Basically the profiles would be the last section with reference page numbers to any other art, fiction, etc that you might have throughout the rest of the book.

This is cool. I wonder if I can find my old TMNT art? My art was only Eastman/Laird oriented style. I just prefer the TMNT look like the way the were drawn. I used to draw alot in Jr High and High school.

That is a fantastic question, that I won't pretend to have the answer to. Once the book is is production, we will have a clearer idea as to where we might be able to distribute it.

This is a really cool idea. Fandom at it's best. Not to mention there will likely be some really great art or story content. I gotta get to the drawing table!

Is it gonna be in color or be like Mirage stuff black and white pages?

most likely the art section will be color, while the stories and bios (being mostly text) will be black and white.

This morning I awoke to roughly 50 emails in my inbox wondering if the book is still greenlit in light of the Viacom buyout. As you can imagine, that is our primary concern right now, and I had stayed mostly silent on the subject because I frankly didn’t know. I can tell you that I recieved this from Dan Berger this morning in regards to the fan book project:

I’m afraid I don’t know. Mirage’s stance on the project may not be the same as Nick’s, and I have no idea what they would do about it. I’m afraid the only way to find out would be to contact them – and unfortunately I don’t have any contact info for them at this time (don’t know if I ever will). I’m sorry.
GoGreenMachine is doing everything in our power to open those lines of communication, and will keep you as up to date as we possibly can.

Just wondering... If you sell the book obviously you need some sort of permission, but if you just release the book for free and do not make any profit do you still need permission?

Probably not. I don't know for sure. But then you'd be talking about 100% digital distribution...because I don't have the extra capital to eat the cost of proper publishing. If I did, I would.

Man, this is unfortunate timing for the fan-book. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you Archon! Hopefully Nickelodeon will be open to it, since it was kind of a done deal before the buyout. I say kind of because I'm not sure of the official status of the deal you made with Mirage.

A friend and I are going to submit a short comic for the piece. Here's hoping it gets in. Oh and it won't need to be colored. It's going to be b&w and a nice homage to vol. 1. Of course the being who it centers on will be the Shredder.
