You thought 2k3, new show, and even new movie was enough for Nick? Well I have evidence that they are about to buy OT from Fred Wolf! OMG this awesome! This can also mean return of Archie :)

Cowabunga! Turtle Power! Now they can show the OT on Nick :) I honestly think it would be quite a high rated show.

And hopefully this may mean republishing the Archie TMNT Adventures as well.

Am I the only one with horrifying visions of episodes being edited with a meat cleaver and orange Nickelodeon goo super imposed on the title screen?

Nick used to air the original series in the UK in the early 1990s, I'm more than used to it.

As long as this doesn't screw up the DVD releases of the original cartoon, I'm fine.

I'd still like to own the entire show on DVD.

If they were somehow down the line able to release the show in affordable season sets with GOOD video transfers (half the episodes look like they came from a bootlegged tape) with all the episodes that were "Missing" everything would be great. if they at least let Lionsgate continue to release the rest of the series, I'll be happy... if they wind up making kiddy 5 episode disks and nothing else (which they no doubt could stand to do) that will suck big time.

I think Nick will still allow LionsGate realease more TMNT DVDs! Only they will put giant Nick slime on DVD :D And I see most people are positive about this! COWABANGA DUDES!

Well, the mentioning of the TMNT will be the network's first hard edge cartoon and franchise on their line up compared to their usually soft and sweet stuff, gives hope that TMNT won't be dumbed down.

It's funny. If they succeed, then they'll own more Ninja Turtle content than Laird and Mirage EVER did.

I do hope they buy it. It'll be nice to have ALL pieces of Turtle media finally housed under a single roof. And for God's sake maybe now new media will be able to use that ****ing theme song I love so much.

That is ironic. All that would be left would be the movies; which are under Warner Bros., right?

No, it WOULDN'T be their first hard edged show, because they've had them in the past.

Even then, goofy TMNT wouldn't be a bad thing.

There's not that much of the show left to be released on DVD, just Season 9, the other half on Seaon 10, Planet of the Turtleoids and Once Upon A Time Machine.

It would be awesome to see the 1987 cartoon on the air again!

If Nickelodeon aired the old toon it would be edited for time, I'd rather it never be aired again than that. USA edited out enough when they re-aired episodes. With even more commercials than ever going into shows these days how butchered do you think these episodes will get. Season 1-4 (until CBS premiere) episodes were about 22 minutes with intro/credits. Season 4 and on were 23-24 minutes. Do you honestly think they'll leave that alone? Take a look at how Fox treats Seinfeld and older Simpson episodes these days. They've started edited Seinfeld for time and on the Simpsons they constantly cut off the ends of scenes to go to a commercial break. I mean come on, that's crap. As far as I'm concerned, I want Nickelodeon to have nothing to do with the old series. Who knows how it'll affect the DVD releases if they get their hands on it.

They might as well get it. As someone else said, it'd at least be nice to have all the stuff under the same roof.

Well, as much as I'd like to say it's a good thing think about Nickelodeon reputation for releasing shows on DVD. Not very many series get very good treatment. Right now, we have a mediocre company releasing the episodes but at least they're releasing them all with the exception of the skipped episodes. I don't think Nickelodeon will make it better, if anything it'll probably be worse. I mean honestly, what good could possibly come from this? And that video says it all Drtooth. Wtf, cutting the intro to 20 seconds?!

Wow, that's pretty bad. Remember the Pinky and the Brain one where they put the Nickelodeon logo every freaking where?

I doubt we'll have to worry about orange blobs appearing everywhere since Nick changed their logo recently.

I think I'll approach with cautious optimism.

Kendamu

I doubt they'd wanna cutesy up the OT intro with Nick logos, especially since they're trying to get into the "action" market with TMNT.

Really doesn't pay to make a joke on this forum, does it?

I don't think they would pull that, seriously. Edit it with a hatchet, maybe. That's a bigger possibility. Especially since there are more commercials per half hour of programming now.

I couldn't find anything in the listings on Yahoo TV on Nick, Nick 2, or Nicktoons. Those listings have been known to be wrong before, though. Hopefully we'll see some commercial or something soon confirming this.

Thinking positively, they mighty just get source tapes that don't look like they were in someone's basement for 10 years like Lionsgate does. They have a lot more money to play around with to remaster these things.

I collect a lot of older Nick Shows on DVD, and just based on the releases of Clarrisa, Doug, Rugrats, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Ren and Stimpy, etc. I really don't imagine the video transfer quality is going to be that much improved, so I wouldn't let that be any kind of selling point in Nick acquiring the Fred Wolf stuff.

As far as them getting the shows go, I don't think it's a bad idea, BUT I really hope they are unable to acquire the rights until the series is finished on DVD. Because I have a strong feeling that if they were to release these on DVD they would probably want to restart the series, and honestly after collecting these for the past 6 years, I don't want to have to wait another 6 years (or possibly never) for them get back around to the point of getting seasons 9 and 10 out.

I already have those seasons on VHS so if they never get released I won't lose sleep over it, but it would be really nice to see the Lionsgate series finished out. After that happens though, fair game as far as I'm concerned. If Nick could get the rights it opens all kinds of possibilities for things that weren't available for Mirage to use in the past.

Would it have large, obvious VHS artifacts in a third of the episodes? Then it would be much, much better.

Well, it likely wouldn't have tape scramble tracking problems, and the FHE logo cut off at the end, since none of the other Nick releases suffer from this. I'm just saying if people are expecting it to look like they scanned in all the original animation cels and mastered it in Dolby 5.0 or something you'll be sorely disappointed. I do agree 100% though that virtually anything would be a step up from the Lionsgate releases, I just fear that since that's all we currently have available I'd at least like that to finish, instead of the chance they may never be released on DVD once Nick acquires them.

That's the one thing that really bothers me about this. Even if they did re-release everything, who wants to buy it all again? Unless they completely spiffy the thing up with special features, which I doubt they'd even bother, there's nothing really saying "Pick these up." That is, with the exception of people who didn't get them while they were in print.

I agree... I hope Lionsgate finishes it up and releases the 9th and 10 seasons somehow (either together or seperately) What I don't wanna see is another Fraggle Rock: Complete Series fiasco, in which they released a complete series set when the license was about to expire... even though there was only one more set to be released anyway.

I'd only re-buy them if they had special features and were remastered or something. But realize in a few years the Lionsgate DVDs will be out of print and hard to find, so Nick SHOULD re-release it on DVD years down the road for people who missed out on it.

Also if they do air the old toon on Nick, a whole new generation of kids will get into the show that never saw it before. Those new younger kids should be able to buy the original cartoon on DVD if they like it.

Oh, definitely. I didn't think that Nick releasing the OT would be something immediate or something for those of us who already bought them from LionsGate. I'm more or less hoping that Nick gets ahold of the OT and puts it back on TV between now and when their new stuff comes out.

Lieutenant Granitor
10-26-2009, 02:04 PM
Nick is not stupid.. They would not even release the DVDs by themselves anyways.. They will probably ask their sister company Paramount or something.. But they have Liongate already, but Nick will not pay them, but Lionsgate will pay them... So yeah, do the math!

I've been very disappointed in the way Paramount has been handling the Alvin and the Chipmunks DVDs. TV specials that appeal only to little kids, and refusing to release the public domain song filled Alvin show in sets... just one episode. Sure, I see many musical copyright stumbles in the 1980's series, leading us to get the "ALVIIIIIN collection" which contained 7 combined episodes. And they haven't released anything like that since. And when it comes down to it, Paramount/Nickelodeon really doesn't do a good job on DVD releases. Other than Spongebob and Ren and Stimpy, they refuse to even consider season sets. Zim was subcontracted.

Yes... but they didn't bother with The Charlie Brown and Snoopy show on any level... not even as best ofs... at least since they were still making VHS. That said, the one thing they're actually paying attention to a fan base about is Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures, and it took them long enough to do it. Of course, it's got a staggering SRP.
