View Full Version : Positive Thinking and Nickelodeon's Aquisition of the Turtles

Okay, a lot of us are freaked out. Eastman and Laird no longer have anything to do with the turtles, and they've sent our heroes to Nickelodeon, a once-great network that many now feel panders to today's teeny-boppers and tweeny-boppers (I'm not sure if that last one's even a word, but I'm makin' it a word now). Many a Turtle fan feels like they're on a ship who's lost the captain and first mate.

But all may not be lost, folks! Let's hold on to hope (Or, for some of us, denial) and try to think positive! Here's some reasons that Nickelodeon's aquiring the Turtles might work out after all:

- For every bad show (*Cough*AsToldByGinger*Cough*), Nick's also done a good one (Like Fairly Oddparents or Danny Phantom)
- For every poorly-publicized show (*Cough*TeenageRobot*Coughagain*), Nick's also had a marketing victory (SpongeBob SquarePants, regardless of how many haters there are, has become a real icon. And I think the show's pretty good)
- Disney got Marvel, Cartoon Network (Through Warner Bros.) owns DC... someone big had to get the turtles! Speaking of which...
- ...better Nick than Disney (You've seen the shows that the Disney Channel's put on. Do we REALLY need the Turtles singing songs from High School Musical? Ugh... I think I nauseated myself...)
- Mikey already looks awesome in "Slime Green" and "Nick Logo Orange".
- The turtles are used to being slimed ( :tmad: - "It wasn't slime! It was OOZE!")

Ok, Nick could be a great thing for the Turtles, or it could be horrible. None of us know what they're gonna do with them, so the smartest thing is probably just wait and hope they do big things.

But I can“t help feeling like something is ending, and that makes me a bit upset. And, on top of that, the comics will be gone soon (Tales at least, and who knows what's gonna happen to Volume 4).

I find it really hard to keep a positive thinking about all of this, but I really hope that something good comes out in the end.

It sounded like you knew what you were talking about for a bit before you said that. You're retarded, just like people who think there are gonna be Spongebob and TMNT crossovers.

Disney, just like any other network, has its good and bad shows.

Relax, dude. I was kinda kidding there, man; coping with humor and all that. I doubt that Disney, even if they DID acquire the rights to the TMNT, would do a High School Musical/Ninja Turtle crossover... Although I wouldn't put it past them to cross-promote by having the turtles in a commercial that hypes another show or movie (After all, 4Kids has done that with the turtles repeatedly), such as High School Musical. I DEFINITELY wouldn't count out the chance of them cross-promoting by giving other Disney Channel stars voice-acting roles on TMNT. Miley Cyrus has guest-voiced on Emperor's New Groove and The Replacements. The Sprouce twins have been on Kim Possible and Emperor's New Groove. If Disney had gotten its hands on the Turtles, there's a chance that some Disney Channel stars that tend to annoy us would have made guest appearances.

I will agree that Disney does have a few good shows... That's mostly their cartoons, though, which are seriously outnumbered by their less-than-great, live action shows. I also doubt that a SpongeBob/Turtles crossover would happen on TV or in the form of a console-based video game, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them put in a commercial together, or on some Nick.com flash game together (Although Nickelodeon's been less apt to do "crossover commercials" than 4Kids or Cartoon Network have been).

Because Ninja Turtles have never found success in being marketed towards kids.

First of all, HSM has awesome songs. Second, I have seen the shows on Disney and I have enjoyed them more than I have enjoyed ANYTHING involving the Ninja turtles released in the last 5 years. (See signature, That show > 2k3 turtles)

Personally I'm already positive about the aqcuisition(just the possiblility of seeing the return of long overdue OT characters who've been cockblocked by Laird such as Bebop and Rocksteady makes me positive).

I'm going to remain positive until I see something that'll make me negative.

No. Someone big didn't have to.

It wasn't like Peter and Gary were water-boarded by Viacom.

Do you even WATCH anything animated from Disney or are you like all those other cliched Disney bashers who think the company is "Engulf and Devour" and not something usually known for having great animated series on a consistent basis?

The main character in this remind anyone of someone? Were you using that as a Peter Laird analogy?

Either way, it was kind of awesome.

Well, the other way around. The video with Elegia is the original short film. It was years later that Kenna said, "Hey, that's a cool video... let's see if we can lease it and adapt our song, 'Hellbent' to it and release it on MTV2."

Both work well, though I prefer the original.

disney has it's "boys' channel" Disney XD...
Also Disney animated shows blow most of Nick's recent animated shows out of the water...

Whatever direction Nickelodeon is taking TMNT. I hope they combine elements of the original series with the recent one. I would love to see the return of classic characters such as Rockstead & Bebop, and Krang.

I just hope the computer generation doesn't ruin the show. I'd much prefer traditional animation, but as long as it looks good enough

I have never seen TV budget computer animation that can do hand-to-hand fighting well. It's going to be a huge let down after the beautiful coreography we got with the 4Kids cartoon.

I agree, I am dreading the cgi, it's not going to be anywhere close to what imagi could do. I fear it will more closley resemble jimmy neutron or that madagascar penguin show.

wow i think i made myself actually physically sick just now.

I already addressed this...

I will agree that Disney does have a few good shows... That's mostly their cartoons, though, which are seriously outnumbered by their less-than-great, live action shows.

(To supplement this, I'd like to mention that I feel that Phineas and Ferb is a good, funny show with a refreshingly original concept. But I find that few shows still on Disney Channel are of that quality, especially with regard to the live-action programming)

And to respond to TheCure, perhaps where I should've said that a lot of Disney Channel stars "tend to annoy us", I should've said "annoy most of us". Sorry about the misunderstanding.

I'd also like to ask people to take my first post in this thread with a grain of salt; it involves a lot of "kidding on the level" (Y'know, exaggerating and/or adding to honest statements with a little humor). Having a sense of humor can be a good way to deal with something that's bothering you.

But still, this thread's about the turtles and Nick, not about Disney Channel, so I'd like to steer the conversation back to that.

Here's another plus: Whatever Nickelodeon comes up with, odds are pretty good that it'll be better-received than The Next Mutation.

*Knock on wood...*

By that, you mean f*ck it up?

That movie sucedded despite it's CGI.

I've seen plenty of series that had s*it CGI but had pretty good storylines.

And what is wong with that, i like the jimmy neutron and penguins of madagascar cgi look.

If they made the cgi look like penguins of madagascar, and brought back the charactersas and the technodrome from the 1987 toon, conceder this a win for a new TMNT cartoon.
