Any news whether Lionsgate is continuing the old toon DVDs? We still need Seasons 9 and 10, as well as the 3 skipped eps, "Once upon a time machine," and "Planet of the Turtleoids" 2-parter.

Usually we get a DVD release every April or May, I am getting worried than there hasn't been one announced yet.

Not that I heard. Now that Nickelodeon owns TMNT, I don't know what this will mean for DVD releases. I hope they do release them soon. I want to see the season 9 episode "Carter the Enforcer" where the turtles time travel 20 years into the future. That was a 1995 episode, and we just entered the decade where they travel to.

Lionsgate already released 4 season 10 episodes as bonus episodes on the season 1 DVD.

The Nick buy-out doesn't affect Lionsgate/Old toon DVDs, since they still own the entire old show and Nick has no say over the matter, just like Peter Laird/Mirage didn't.

Nick only purchased the 2k3 series from 4kids, but as far as I know Lionsgate did not sell the original toon to them.

If that's true, I don't see a reason why they can't release season 9, the skipped episodes and the rest of season 10. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for an announcement soon.

Even if they can, they might want to wait until Nick starts making Turtles popular again before they release more discs. But as close as they are, they need to finish it and then once the sh!t hits the fan in 2012 they can release a massive series collection.

Or let Nick by them out too.

As far as I am told LionsGate still owns the TMNT'87 Toon.

Could it be that the DVDs didn't sell in 2009 as well as LionsGate has hoped they will on the 25th Anniversary of the Show?

Seems like there was a pretty big wait between Seasons 5 & 6 [or was it 6 & 7?], so I'd say just be patient and don't fret until you hear any news to the contrary.

Hmm... You know I don't think Lions Gate actually owns the 87 show. They had distribution rights yes, but as far as I know they never owned it. Unless Lions Gate has told people here otherwise, and in fact almost no one seemed to know at the time who owned it, they were all over the place. We were even told ABC owned a bunch of episodes.

That's right, as far as I know. I am under the impression the show is still owned by Fred Wolf Films. Lionsgate only owns distribution rights in the United States.

Yes so I guess the point is either way the distribution of the content I don't think is in the hands of Nick... That said they do hold the property rights to the Turtles themselves, so I'm not sure how that works in using the image or likeness of the Turtles in any form for profit, other than the rights transference and permissions could have been automatically transferred with existing deals from Mirage... again TOTALLY speculating here hahaha. We haven't tackled much of this right acquisitions yet ourselves.

I'm thinking Viacom can't do sh*t to Lionsgate... I mean, when Mirage owned the TMNT, Lionsgate did whatever the hell they wanted at their own pace. Mirage didn't approve anything and fans would always find out about box-art and release dates before they did. I used to e-mail Dan every time some news came out and he said Lionsgate never told them any thing... except weeks and weeks after the release they'd give them enough information/pictures to put up in the DVD section of the site.

Hmm I don't know dude, I spent a lot of time over there and when I was there it was around the time that the season 7s boxes were getting approved and they were there... but I could be totally wrong. Either way it would be a licensed product licensed by Nick, so if they do what I think they might, I think they will wait for the 2 or 3 years and then release it all again... but I'm just guessing.

Well that might have been a special case, since those were released as anniversary editions that came with toys and special bonus features.

Also, I don't think Mirage would have allowed the skipping of 3 episodes if they had any say in what was made.

... Based on what? O_o If you haven't noticed, Peter and his subordinates are all thrilled with the Fred Wolf series.[/heavyonthesarcasm] Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if that was a contributing factor to Pete's decision to sell the franchise to Viacom (because he broke so many of his personal taboos, like his 'no mutants' law).

I know they didn't love it... but that seems rather childish if they were just letting them skip episodes.

Since Lionsgate is releasing the old toon in the UK with new DVD sets, it seems like they still intend to continue releasing TMNT DVDs.

This leads me to believe Seasons 9 and 10 will come eventually.

Right. Neither Lionsgate nor any of it's international distributors have made any announcements since the buyout was publicized. I think it's likely that they're waiting for Viacom to get their ace ducks in a row. Since Viacom wants distribution of the old series too, Lionsgate might just be hesitant to devalue their bargaining chip. If true, that would suck for us. :(

Like Lionsgate cared about us in the first place.....pffft

I only saw one of the many press releases say that they wanted to focus on the OT, so I still don't know if I believe all that.

There were news articles saying Viacom was interested in buying the rights to this series as well as suggestions that they wanted to base their own series on elements of it. Granted, that could all be misquoted information, and I wouldn't be surprised if this deal ends up never getting made, but we're likely still in for a longer than usual wait for announcement of the next volume, if you ask me.

Well....

This post shouldn't be taken too serious, but after all I don't want to hide any Informations:

As many of you know there is a german Release for further OT TMNT episodes in Germany, but last year (ca. december) when the german DVD Label was still negotiating with Lionsgate for the distributionrights for 55 further episodes they told me that they are having a much harder time with Lionsgate to acquire the rights to those episodes than they had in 2008 for the first 25 episodes!

That could mean:
a.) Lionsgate realized that the TMNT License is it worth to be more expensive and that other Labels around the world would buy the rights at any price
b.) Lionsgate was/is negotiating with Viacom about the OT TMNT episodes and didn't want to be interfered by an international Label that could "destroy" the deal

On the other hand, the german DVD Label got the license to 55 further episodes in early january of 2010 so maybe Option b.) isn't happening at all.

We just have to wait and see...

God I wish there was some way Lionsgate would let us know what's going on.

*sigh of relief* I'm guessing the articles just got them to put a temporary halt on their dealings with the series, but they gave in to international demand when no one with Viacom contacted them directly about making a deal... or maybe I'm reading too much into this.

Does anyone happen to know why "Planet of the Turtleoids" and "Once Upon a Time Machine" were skipped in the first place? I asked Gord Lacey of tvshowsondvd.com a few months ago and he said he could never get an answer from Lionsgate.

It's been assumed that these eps were skipped because the episode guide they were going by was switched at an inopportune time. Good luck getting them to admit their boo-boo. Why they continue to skip them? That's anyone's guess.

Because they are incompetent boobs who refuse to acknowledge their mistake and won't correct it.
