Why has Michael Dooney never done a Tale?

I mean, he's done a couple of covers and 75% of the Frontpieces. So why the hell has Peter not delegated an issue to him? Or has he just not ever pitched one?

Either way, seems odd and he's one of my favorite artists. I know some of you guys are in contact with some artists (possibly even Mike himself) So let me know what ya got.

I've got no idea, but it rather saddens me that it never happened. Also, an Eric Talbot issue would've been amazing. I absolutely love his style these days.

I also wonder why AC Farley never got involved with the new Tales. His work is, frankly, the sh*t.

I think THAT bugged me more than anything else.

At least Dooney was involved with frontispieces and covers. Where the heck was Farley!? And to a lesser extent, where the heck was Talbot?

If there's one other area where Tales Vol. 2 disappointed me, it's that over the course of 70 issues it only brought back a handful of recognizeable Turtles artists, whereas a good number of Mirage in-housers were left out to dry. Instead, we wound up with Jim Lawson 70% of the time.

I enjoyed seeing folks like Allan and Berger back on pencil duty, but not enough of the classic in-house talent was utilized for my tastes. I know, there's always the "maybe they were too busy with other projects!" arguement, but for seven years?

Ah well. I guess I can just chalk it up as one more missed opportunity for Tales Vol. 2.

Talbot inked, lettered and gave us some sweet pin-ups/frontpieces. But I agree, that doesn't equal an actual issue. And the Farley thing is ridiculous.

And Lawson was over-used, so much that he actually did the frontpiece to one of his own issues lol

Farley left Mirage... so why is it ridiculous that he never drew a Tales? And the same goes for all the other people you seem to think owed us work on Tales. Most everyone once associated with Mirage moved on with their lives, so there's no reason why we should have expected to see anything from them. Some people did come back and give us some treats, some didn't. I really don't think it's fair to find fault in anyone for not coming back.

Tales, at most times, was an exercise in giving the people left at Mirage something to do to earn money. I believe (someone can correct me) most of the artists who were left at Mirage were also doing work for other companies, so they didn't need to (or have the time to) do full penciling duties on a book, as much as I would have liked to have seen that from Dooney and/or Talbot myself.

Chill. We're not saying they owe us anything... I just thought they were never given the chance to. But if they just didn't want to, or couldn't that's ok... I'm sure they don't blame people like me for wanting to see them do more stuff.

I'd presume his work on the TMNT licenced stuff kept him pretty busy. Also the reason he doesn't take commissions of specific scenes, he'd rather draw just what appeals to him.

I agree it would've been great to see a whole issue with him. I loved his drawing of Mikey dreaming about the Super Turtles, I think he'd have been the perfect artist for the issue that focused on them.

He did have a frontpiece in one of the early issues if I remember right. I believe it was Splinter in his room in the lair.

I was talking to Craig this morning, and I brought up this very subject. Thought I would share:

Me: oh hey, just kind of curious, as this topic came up in conversation between some of us turtle heads over the weekend.

Is there a particular reason why you never did a Tales of the TMNT volume 2 Issue?

Craig: I didn't do any TMNT art after it all became a work for hire proposition. I did a splash page for Jim Lawson, that was it. Was that Tales Vol 2?

Me: Yeah it was. Hence the question of why you didnt do more came up.

Craig: The page rates dropped and we were all required to sign work for hire agreements.

As cool an idea as that would be, I don't know that they would produce the appropriate style for the direction that Viacom probably wants to go.

You're probably right about that, but who says they can only go in one direction? If it is possible that they are going to allow Image to publish at least two more issues, who is to say that there won't be other TMNT projects going on in addition to the main event?

As much as I like the idea of seeing the cartoon turtles return to their cartoon roots, it would be a shame if Viacom didn't do anything Mirage-esque with the characters they now own.
