(opinionated btw...bash away)

instead of making straight up rehash of the 80s, why not have fun with it. like give all the flat characters of the 80s(like Slash for example) a nice or same origin, just make him less retarded. Rocksteady and Bebop more competent and make them less of brutish social failures. They can make this really, really cool. But nickelodeon make this 80s rehash a huge, huge epic fail.

The 80s tmnt cannot ever be recaptured imo. As corny and camp the 80s one was I can Nickelodeon making really crappy comedy and I mean "purely comedy" where the plot never advances if they are to put in the wrong hands...

Basically, Spectacular Spider-man crew work the new tmnt cartoon. I would find epic...serious versions of the 80s characters ftw...wacky 80s tmnt...fond memories but imo can't be recaptured.

Because it's a CGI 'toon by Nick. That's reason enough for me not to get my hopes up for anything impressive.

Why do you care if it is dark or not? I Frankly don't care. I love the 80's cartoon, more then todays. The more resent ones where so corny. I am sorry I will never be able to get into this "dark turtle" thing you guys ask for (in my opinion) it is just so.... dumb.

Ninja turtles and serious should not be placed into the same category, I am very much in the minority of this forum but gosh I hope Nick makes it just as obnoxious and off the walls as the 80's. I would love every second.. And I hope it has a fantastic catchy theme song to go with it.

I think that if the new-est toon were more like the Archies comics, that would be OK, that is, a mix of strangeness and humor.
Whatever style it ends up being, I think that it's very important it has an ongoing story-line that you get all involved in. For something more serious and mature, you'd just have to peg your hopes on the movie (but that may just be a long shot!).

I seriously hope they scrape the CGI idea and go with an action toon like Wolverine and the X-men. I actually like that series and I could see turtles working quite well in that format.

Archie-style 'toon would be sweet, but to address Drawsher, the reason people want to see a "dark turtle" thing is because it fits with the Turtles origins and how they were originally conveyed to the public.

It would be like saying "I can't get behind this more serious "Dark Knight" version of Batman the past few years, I'd rather see something like the Adam West series."

The Turtles are serious characters who came from a dark situation. That they were flung into the general populace as "totally tubular, pizza-scarfing party dudes" weren't their faults, but rather what the corporate powers-that-be approved of when Eastman and Laird packaged them for mass consumption.

Do I hate it, no. It's a beloved part of my childhood. But since I am now an adult who still loves these characters I should not be alienated from having a version more in line and true to their roots than the person across the room who wants Mike to throw a grappling hook around Bebop and Rocksteady and lasso them while Leo slices a rope to drop a bowling ball on their heads.

You guys are making way too big a deal about this.

Nick never said exactly what the new show will be like, except for that it'll be CG and will probably use some old toon characters.

Otherwise we have no idea what the tone will be like, what the eps will be like, or if it'll be good or not. It is way too early for this.

I didn't grow up with the funny ones though, I grew up with the more darker ones and disliked it. In my taste the older ones which I had to find over the Internet to learn and watch about to know, are better.

By the way, I find the Adam West and Tim Burton's renditions of Batman the best. His Penguin is amazing and the Adam West Riddler shall never be beat.

Actually Nick straight up said they want the show to use the formula of the OT. I can see why people are concerned but I'll wait it out.

Right, but they never said it would be a "re-hash".

>_< Dude... You shoulda said "Batman Begins". "Dark Knight" was to Batman what "Secret of the Ooze" was to TMNT... just without the joke of a white-boy rapper.

While I like SOTO I see what you're saying there. There's really no way you can even possibly argue that "Dark Knight" is a bad film. Other then Batman's raspy voice everyone likes to complain about the movie was extremely well crafted. If you personally liked it or not aside it's solid fact that it's a great film.

No, not 'bad'. Just significantly less serious than the movie it followed. SotO was a shell of its former theatrical release, but an amusing one. Same deal with "Dark Knight", IMO.

I wish they did a better job with the Scarecrow he was my favorite character and he was so underplayed it wasn't funny. I have to agree with spitfire, the dark knight besides a few small aspects is a great movie, a bit to long for my attention span but really well done.

Better then the first one.

Better then the first one.
Well, I give you that "Begins" was heavier and thus less enjoyable, but my point was that "Dark Knight" was dopier than its prequel the way "Ooze" was. That's all. "Ooze" was a good film too, ya know. Let's stay on topic now. How 'bout them NickTurtles, huh?
Agree to disagree I guess.
You've got yourself a deal.

You are entitled to your opinion and I respect that. I personally fail to see how you find "Dark Knight" to be any less then "Batman Begins". If anything Dark Knight was the bigger of the two films in every sense of the word. Agree to disagree I guess.

Why did you think they where flat? I found them pretty well developed despite some definite plot holes here and there.

It's obviously going to be somewhat more serious than the Fred Wolf cartoon and less serious than the Mirage comics. Within that spectrum, I don't particularly care where it falls. It all works well enough.

At this point, the only thing I'm worried about is the CGI. Unless Nick suddenly gets mid-'90s Mainframe behind them, a CGI action cartoon is going to look f*cking terrible.

It would be like saying "I can't get behind this more serious "Dark Knight" version of Batman the past few years, I'd rather see something like the Adam West series."Ths is completely unrelated to the TMNT, but there are some seriously persuasive arguments for that rationale. Mostly, that the Adam West series is amazing. I'll BIFF my POW to that any day of the week.

This reminds me of how good Brave and the Bold was because it mixed the BTAS feel with the lighter Adam West era feel.

Without the 80's cartoon and movies the Turtles themselves probably would have retained only a very small cultish fanbase.

So basically what I'm hearing is an extended Red Sky seasons? I mean that basically was the 80's cartoon gone dark n edgy.

Mmmm the Bold and the Brave. I think that show is cool.

The Turtles are serious characters who came from a dark situation.

They were invented as parody characters that affectionately served to make fun of dark comics.

^ Truth, but maybe they became more serious when Pete and Kev realized they stumbled upon them being more than a one-shot.

Honestly... something balanced between OT and NT wouldn't bother me too much as long as the character personalities are what they should be. And no comedic centralization no certain characters, etc. Four characters who all play a major part in the-plot-to-be.

Now the question is- what will Splinter's origin story be?

Venom

Some say he was once a man named Hamato Yoshi, others claim he was merely the pet rat of Yoshi; both are true, yet neither are false.

as for Splinters Origin, I prefer the comic origin story.
having the OT ooze can crowd up the show with mutants too easily

Well, the fact they're buying it to target boys, and most boys cartoons these days are at least a little more serious than the majority of the Fred Wolf matieral was, certainly lends to his theory.

That's true, especially if Nick wants to target top toy licenses such as Star Wars.
