Has your family ever been in a bad fix? Tell me what you think of this:
So my Mother and Father got a letter from the District Attorney today informing them that they had committed a felony. The crime that they are being accused of is allowing my sixteen-year-old Sister to skip school. My parents have done no such thing! Everything falls on my sister’s shoulder, but the D.A. sees differently.
Let me give you a brief history lesson about the past year at my house. I am twenty-seven and I live at home with my fiancé. We both work part time while finishing our college degrees. My parents both work full time and leave before five in the morning. We live in walking distance from the school, (two blocks), and so my sister doesn’t need to ride the bus.
The problem is that she has ‘trouble’ waking up in the mornings, she ignores her alarm clocks, ignores phone calls intended to wake her up, and speaks to me like I’m **** when I try to remind her to wake up. At first she was only making it late, and then she started missing first period all together. Then, she started skipping and claiming that she ‘over slept’ when I came home at one in the afternoon. School ends at two thirty, so at that point the day is wasted.
Finally, I decided to drive her to school myself believing that this would deter her from skipping. I was wrong. I found out that when I dropped her off, she’d make like she was walking inside and then sneak out and hide either in our garage attic or at her friend Freedom’s house, (yes, his name is FREEDOM). After I figured this out, I realized it was a waste of my time, stress, and gasoline to drive her there and went back to waking her up.
Then, she had two new tricks up her sleeve. To make it to school on time, she has to leave at seven a.m. and so to fool me into thinking she has left, my Sister has decided to hide in the closet and sleep in there until she ‘feels’ like waking up. I have caught her in there twice already.
On the days that my Father is off, he wakes her up and on one of these days, he sent her off to school and watched her walk down the street until she disappeared around the corner; however, my Father had his suspicions and drove out to make sure she went. He caught her sitting just out of sight on the curb. He dragged her into the car and walked her into school before going to speak to the truancy office. They informed him that the case of my Sister’s truancy had already been sent to the D.A.’s office.
Here is the major problem, my Father is a sheriff and my Mother works for the U.S.P.S, they are both civil servants. If this goes to court not only will our family be fined a minimum of $500, (my Mother, Father, and Sister can all be fined, meaning we could even pay $1500), and there is a chance that one of them is sent to jail. If my parents go to jail, they will lose their jobs. This means that my family will lose the house and the cars.
And how did my Sister react when we warned her of this? She laughed, called us liars, and told us she doesn’t care.
