View Full Version : How did Shredder Chrell survive Secret Origins 3?

Seriously, I was thinking back to Secret Origins Part 3. It was the episode where they were inside the TCRI Building where the building imploded at the end and Chrell was caught inside.
How did he survive that? It was never properly explained.
Also I liked how he had a different voice when he was Chrell, just the alien bug. And when we was Oroku Saki, his voice was also different. And finally when he put his helmet on his voice got even darker. In the Turtles Forever it stayed constant. I enjoyed the different levels of his voice. Even Karai's voice changed when she wore the Shredder helmet.

I suppose the foot found enough of his flesh for the "bio-cite" worms to rebuild him.
And the voice thing bothered me slightly in Turtles Forever, I guess they just wanted him to be as threatening as possible through out the whole film so they ditched his little Utrom voice.

maybe he swallowed the voice changing device

I thought the same thing in Turtles Forever, his voice was all wrong. He sounded like Shredder and not like an Utrom.
It was never properly explained.
Rewatch "Rogue in the House" Part One.

Maybe Ch'rell got teleported from the transmat. He was just standing on the transmat when the building imploded, and that was right after the turtles activated it. The transmat probably just teleported Ch'rell, and a second later, the building imploded.

It was pretty heavily insinuated that he was a worm clone. He says "The worms are almost done healing me." but when the worms "healed" Shredder in the comics they ate his dead body and became him. Being it's a kids program they probably left that detail out but as a comic fan I'll assume that's what happened.

That's exactly what I assumed as well. The worms are clear as day. It just takes a bit more insight to make the connection for those that know the comics.

Yeah, and to me, "Back to the Sewer" all but confirmed it. We know they have technology to more-or-less create monsters from scratch (the Shredder "clones"), and we know that they had the tech to preserve the Shredder's mind in a cybernetic back-up. Add those two facts, plus the fact that the explosion seemed to take care of everything, the worms, and that "Something Wicked" specifically flashed back to "Rogue in the House", and that's the conclusion that seems most plausible.

Nah, I think it was the same Ch'rell and not a clone. I just think he got heavily mutilated/deformed during the explosion and the worms healed back his flesh.

It did? o_O

Yeah it was the only time we saw Karai in Back to the Sewers, well I mean in her Foot outfit.

Rewatch "Rogue in the House" Part One.
I think he first reappeared in City at War part 3 when Karai was first introduced.

thats the good thing about this show you can fill in the blanks your self.
He was cloned by His fot technitians and Stockman back to live. Yeah but wasn't stockman working with the mob at the time?

I like the heavily mutilated idea.... I bet he looked like a a squid cut in half and covered in jelly. mmmmmmmm Jelly.

Yeah your right. I think After secret origins Karai knowing shredder was dead and with the help of the foot had worms clone shredder from tissue samples they saved. And They gave him the memory they talked about saving in Something Wicked. Plus in City at war he said "Soon I"ll be myself again." And there were tubes in his head

I don't think Ch'rell was cloned. He was the same, but he was just heavily injured. He said that the worms had almost finished healing his flesh. It shouldn't have to be healed if it wasn't injured.
And for the voice-thing, his Utrom-voice already changed in Exodus. That's 4 years before Turtles Forever, so it's good that they did that. It was weird that it changed in Exodus, but it would've been more weird if it changed AGAIN.
It also made him more menacing, and that's what the creators were going for.
Ch'rell as menacing as possible and the 80's Shredder and Krang as foolish as possible.
I like him more with the menacing voice, as I can do an impression of that :P
PS. I just watched the clip where we see him again after the explosion, and he said: 'Soon, I will be myself AGAIN.' So it's the same Ch'rell.

Yeah, I agree. They started the "only speaks in Shredder voice" probably as early as Same as it Never Was. Kinda bugged me at first...but not really a big deal.

Seems like in comic books and cartoons, blowing up a building with a character inside it has a very low percentage of resulting in a fatality.
I guess he could have either: (A) jumped in a conveniently placed safe like Batman, or (B) jumped in a conveniently placed refrigerator like Indiana Jones, or (C) got blown straight up into the air and hurt himself on his eventual landing like the second episode of the TMNT OVA, or (D) got half his body blown off like Frieza after the whole freakin' planet of Namek exploded with him still on it, (E) or won the fan vote to keep him alive like what could have happened to Jason Todd. The possibilities are endless.

I don't think that Shredder survived the end of Secret Origins. I think that the worms basically recreated him usually a virtual blueprint, especially given the flashback shown in Back To The Sewers.

You have to wonder who even gathered his remains though. It certainly wasn't Hun or the Foot. I guess it was Karai, but that doesn't make much sense because whoever did it would have had to act really fast.

I'm guessing it wasn't that hard. After all, he left it all over town. Zing!

His virtual blueprint was made in Rogue in the House, not before that. So it was made AFTER his ressurection. That means he wasn't recreated with the virtual blueprint.
He said the biosites had almost finished HEALING his flesh. Why would it have to be healed if it was new? That means he had to be injured.
He also said 'Soon, I will be myself AGAIN.' AGAIN. Continuation.
I think it's the same Ch'rell.

"Something Wicked" did not flashback to RITH, while it did use some animation from it, it was shown to take place in the Foot's skyscraper. RITH took place on a boat.

I guess that wasn't a scene from Rogue In The House. I was confused because like you said it did use some animation from it.

His virtual blueprint was constantly renewed, it could have happen in anytime, that scene in Something Wicked just reused RITH scene because animators were lazy in BTTS season.

Then it would be weird that Ch'rell wasn't in cyberspace when he was ressurected in Rogue in the House. It's virtual, and as seen in the scene from Something Wicked, his new body would've been his BttS body. In BttS it took a very long time to make him real, how could they do it so fast in Rogue in the House? Btw, they needed the Turtles' portal to make him real at first.
Also, his virtual blueprint wasn't thought of until BttS, so the writers didn't even think of that while they were writing Rogue in the House.
So we should not think about that. The writers must've had a different idea than the virtual blueprint. I believe it's the same Ch'rell:
'Soon, I will be myself AGAIN.'
'And the biosites have almost finished HEALING my flesh.'
Maybe they gave him a new body, like they did with Stockman and Bishop.
Bishop is still the same and his mind was not cloned, he didn't die when his mind got transferred to a new body.
Maybe it's the same Ch'rell, but just with a new body and his mind was not cloned.
That would leave a question how his mind could've survived. But he's an Utrom, anything could be possible with his species.
How did Shredder Chrell survive Secret Origins 3?
He got better.

Thinking about this topic a little bit more. I just can't conceive of any way that he possibly could've survived the events of Secret Origins. To say that he survived the destruction of the TCRI building would mean that an utrom is virtually indestructable.
Also if he did survive, what we he doing during the weeks leading up to Karai arriving in New York? Just walking the streets of New York? I have to believe that the worms basically cloned him from his remains (isn't that what happened in the comics as well?).

Yea, I think I might agree with the worms rebuilding his body from his remains. I still think it's not a clone though, it's still the same Ch''rell as he was before he exploded. I would say an Utrom-mind actually ís indestructable, but his body is not. As far as we know, Utroms can get REALLY old. Maybe they're immortal even. That would also explain why Ch'rell was sent to an ice-thingy instead of being killed. The real reason is ofcourse because they wanted Ch'rell back when ratings would be lower or just to not be so violent, but it fits pretty well. After all, they wanted to bring Ch'rell (Not the Cyber-Shredder, the actual Shredder) back for a second season of BttS, that would've happened áfter Turtles Forever. He should've been ressurected again.

I'm gonna have to assume that Karai has "people" in the 'States, and they scooped up the little blob before she got there.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember the transmat device being on the much lower levels, so if the buliding imploded he could have survived if he was standing in the right spot.
