View Full Version : Full Body Scan - Airport Security?
How do you feel about the full body scan x-ray as implemented in Heathrow, the US, and soon-to-be Sydney?

Personally, I find it very intrusive if not given the choice on whether or not this is used on you.
I think that many people are just willingly deferring their civil liberties and dignity at the face of 'terrorism'. I'm not saying safety is not important, because it is, but I think that this is an extremely costly over-reaction in the current climate of fear.

'Jon Adler, the head of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association does not see them as an invasion of privacy. ''I think a bomb detonating on a plane is the biggest invasion of privacy a person can experience.'''
MEGA FACEPALM.
Did he steal that from a tacky action flick?
I don't care for this AT ALL. My opinions on terrorism stem mostly from conspiracy theories so to me this is like an APB on someone whos in custody if ya catch my drift. I fly alot too so this will be a real pain in the ass.

I could care less.
its just security. They have these things in Israel and it's all automated. The only time any live human sees anything is is something funny triggers the system.
But the image is naked, you say! Pssh. what you can see on that is pretty mushed up and anonymous in th sense that they can't see your face, etc.

Ugh, these things are just redonkulous.
A total invasion of privacy.
I've made a decision to travel through airport security in bike shorts and a sports bra rather than step through one of those things.
It's theater, not safety. Nothing more.

I would like to say that this surprices me but it doesn't. Glad I don't travel much.

Isn't it only safe to have a certain number of x-rays a year? That would be a huge issue for people who travel a lot. Stupid idea.

It's just a security check, not really much of a privacy invasion, it's just a x-ray scan, think this is a lot better then being dragged off to a office and gloved for drugs or nukes because you fit the Hollywood norm of a terrorist. But as spitfire mentions, X-rays ain't the most healthy stuff to be exposure too
but damn it's frustrating with all the security checks and long waits in queues to get to the plane, it's probably gonna be the slowest security check, running on win95 and just one machine per airport.
Next it's urin sampling and blood tests as well. and face recognition and testing of bone density. And airport personnel trimming your nails so you can't scratch the pilot's eyes

Pain in the ass, yeah. But if some people hadn't done what they done (and keep trying to do), none of it would be necessary. I don't fly, so I haven't had to deal with it yet, and likely won't for a long time. But I think folks are making it out to be more than it is.
I'm suspicious that people are objecting more on account of vanity than worrying about lack of privacy. Most Americans are statistically less-than-pleasant looking and out of shape; are they seriously worried that some moe is gonna be slobbering over their x-ray scans? Nah, they just don't want anyone seeing that hideously stretched-out "Winger Rocks" tattoo on their ass from 1987 parked in the middle of a road map of cellulite. Can't say I blame 'em.

I really could care less. As long as I am on that plane and off in a "safe" and timely manner, let them do what they have to to achieve that.
