Recently, in my TMNT/Gargoyles blog, I tried to imagine who I'd cast for each series, using only voice actors that worked on the opposite cartoon. I ended up with stuff like Marc Thompson as Xanatos and Clancy Brown as Hun. It made me appreciate how much I generally like the casting and acting in the series--the voice actors working for 4Kids' may get a lot of flack for their work on the dubs, but they're a lot more talented than a lot of people give them credit for.

In any case, when it came to recasting TMNT (http://nymonsters.wordpress.com/2010/04/09/gargoyles-tmnt-casting-challenge-part-2/), I wasn't entirely succesful. I couldn't find actors who I thought could voice Splinter and Shredder--kind of funny, since Peter Reneday and James Avery both have bit parts in the show. If you couldn't use actors from any existing incarnation of the TMNT, who would any of you cast in the roles?

Speaking more generally, is there any role in the series (aside from the old toon characters in Turtles Forever, which most give to their original actors by default) which you would recast? If so, with whom?

Hard for me to think of anyone else as the voices since I hear Mike, Sam, Wayne, and Frank/John in my head.

If I had to recast the Shredder I would cast Mark Hamil. His Fire Lord Ozai voice would be perfect for the role. Also reminds me why I wish team Bryke was handling the new Nick series.

Yeah, that's what I thought, too--the similarities between the characters make the recasting a natural. Unfortunately, Hamill didn't work on Gargoyles, which means I couldn't use it for my thought experiment.

In any case, this kind of things makes me appreciate how well the 2k3 was cast. Mike, Frank/John/Greg, Wayne, Sam, Veronica, Marc, Darren, Scottie, Scott and the rest deserve major props for helping the make the series what it is.
