As far as all 'fans' of the turtles go, we as die-hards, are the minority. There are casual fans who wear the occasional t-shirt for nostalgia, some who just like the movies, and some who just plain know dirt (but claim to be such huge fans). In my day I've come across alot of people who get excited when you bring them up, or they see you with a tmnt shirt and just spew ignorant comments.
What kinda things have you heard from 'casual fans' that really bug you?
For instance these are some of mine-
"Turtles in a halfshell! That theme-song was great."
"I always liked the pink one with the stick."
"Raphael is my favorite, blue has always been my favorite color and I love his daggers."
"THE TURTLES DON'T HAVE ALL RED BANDANAS LIEK WTF GUIZE ITS SUPPOSED TO BE RED, BLUE, ORANGE, AND PURPLE! LIEK OMG."
"The bad guy was so cool, Splinter."
(or the inverse-)
"Shredder, the rat, I loved him!"
How about you guys?

Basically everything you said. Have countless examples.
People who didn't like the new cartoon simply because it wasn't like the old one.
If we didn't have a thread devoted to this I'd probably be able to think of a bunch more...but I have to get back to my Raph-bashing. :tlol:

What annoys me are these kids who are 10 years younger than me wearing the retro shirts going "OMG TMNT!!! I lurv'd them SO much when I was little!"
I just facepalm, shake my head, and quietly think to myself "You weren't even born when the Turtles were huge."
I'm glad people like the Turtles, but sadly Encyclopedia Dramatica nailed it when they said "Most fans of the Ninja Turtles really didn't give a **** about the comic book."
Except I wouldn't call them "fans". More like wannabe posers trying to be cool and latching onto the Turtles as they were the biggest thing back then so the retro wave is rising high these days.

I know it shouldn't bug me as much as it does but my eye twitches a little bit whenever I see someone call Raph "Ralph". I know it's an easy mistake but everyone here should know better by now. It'd be like spelling "Big SeXXXy" with only one X on a Kevin Nash message board: totally unacceptable.

Lol, that is the same thing with me. I did one time a drawing of Donatello with a red mask and someone who "knew everything" said, that Donnie doesn't wear red and I should get my eyes checked. Another time I was working and my co-worker was saying "I remember the Ninja Turtles and their teacher the hamster was like awesome!". I had to correct her that he was a rat and her response "Is that was it was?". It never ceases to amaze me.

I understand what you're saying to a degree, but don't be so quick to judge. I'm only 18 and I'm a huge TMNT fan.
My friends who are 2-3 years older than me were there for the craze, but even kids my age or younger still saw the movies, played the videogames and got hand-me-down TMNT stuff. So when they say they like TMNT, they pretty much mean it.
Granted, I don't hang out with attention craving emo kids that will wear anything they see at Hot Topic... but still.

Not so much a pet peeve but one time I responded to a craigslist ad that had mentioned they had a bunch of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle" comics... So I emailed the person and asked what "TMNT" comics they had... The reply I got back was... "What's TMNT?"

"Ralph" and "Mickey." Mostly because I don't understand how borderline retarded you'd have to be to make those mistakes.
The lack of knowledge abour the red bandanas frustrates me. I don't care if that's not your preference, but it's irritating to see comments (Youtube, most of these are on Youtube) about how the red masks are oh-so-wrong and they know so much about the TMNT.
Finally, this is small, but it bothers me when TMNT Adventures comics are listed as TMNT proper. I've seen it on eBay and elsewhere. They'll list TMNT issues whatever through whatever, only to have it turn out to be the Archie series. The title is written right on the front of every damn issue. It just perpetuates more confusion about the franchise.

While I do get annoyed when people say that, Ralph/Ralphie and Mickey are both common nicknames for Raphael and latin variations of Michael. But since they're never used in any TMNT media, it's retarded.

Misspelling Utrom as Ultrom irks me a bit, and people mistaking Utroms for Krang just makes me facepalm. Both are minor offenses, but, I am really ticked at anybody who thinks I'm not a fan just because I don't agree with their opinion on something.

I don't even know if this is serious enough to even be considered a pet peeve, but it grates me none the less.
The character's name is Raphael.
The nick of that is Raph.
That's pronounced with an "a" like in after.
Not an "a" like in cape.

I don't get the red bandanna thing, either. The freakin' cover to the first NES game had the red bandannas, you'd think people would remember the kickass image used from the second printing of #4!

The Ralph thing bothers me, too.
About the red bandanas, I don't know. Here in (unnamed country) we never got the original comics, so we knew about the turtles via the tv show and movies. When you saw all four turtles in red bandanas it was in random merchandise like school gear, using old art by Eastman/Laird. So I kind of though that they where bootlegs!

Mines misspelling their names. Ralph and Mickey annoy me as others have mentioned.
I also hate when people bash 2K3 and say the OT was the "real turtles" I've heard that one too many times.
When someones favorite is Mikey. Sounds like a stupid peeve but when I was in school as a kid and even after everyone's favorite was always Mikey. It wasn't until I met other fans that I found people with varied taste. Even now when people randomly comment on my clothes, which happens at least twice a week, the conversation usually goes there and rarely their answer isn't Mikey. "He's the funny one." I personally found the jokes the other characters made to be a lot funnier in most cases.
People who complain about the 2nd movie not having Bebop and Rocksteady in it or people who call Tokka and Razhar Bebop and Rocksteady.
People who think the 3rd movie is either the best or better then the 2nd. How that's humanly possible is beyond my comprehension. They use rather weak justifications like "They use their weapons." or "It was neat to see them time travel." They always avoid the point while those things are good everything else is horrid. That being the special effects, costumes, acting, dialogue, execution, villains, and pretty much everything but those two things.
People that bashed "Fast Forward" endlessly and then when "Back To The Sewer" came on where begging for it to return.
Here's a recent one, people that don't understand the concept of adult comic book. They think comic books are for kids and I have no idea what they base that off of. They've obviously never even stepped foot into a comic store. Comics are mainly for teens but there are many adult driven ones. These people didn't get that though because their brains had been replaced with bubbles at some point.
I could probably go on but I think that's plenty.
I never really have been a super big TMNT fan, just enough. Today I realized how paranoid I could get when someone is wearing TMNT merchandise and they don't even know the name of the show it came from!

A friend of mine thought that the OT in Turtles Forever were the "past" turtles and they had accidently traveled to the future.
He also thought Utrom Shredder and his robot body were two different characters.
And that the Mirage Turtles were the future of all the turtles.
He thought all of this through out the special.

Wow I guess I don't have too many run ins with ignorant people, well ignorant about TMNT at least. I can't believe some of the comments everyone has heard. The worst one mentioned already for me is the Raph/Ralph one. The ones I hate the most are the comparisons between the old toon and new toon, though.
"So Shredder is Krang now?"
"Why aren't Bebop and Rocksteady there, can't Shredder just make some more mutagen?"
"Wait, April isn't a reporter?"
"Why is Baxter Stockman black?" or "When does he become a fly?"
The worst one for me out of all mediums is the Human to Rat Splinter origin. I can't stand that everyone thinks that Splinter was Hamato Yoshi and he turned ratlike. It was all explained in the 1st movie, but still everyone thinks that's the wrong origin and the toon is right.
The only other one I hate is when people tell me TMNT is for kids, not adults. I get this from people all the time, telling me I'm too old to like them. Or, "Are you buying that for your children?". I try to explain that the original Turtles were the complete opposite of what was portrayed in the OT. They think I'm crazy, 'cause the Turtles could never be mean, "they're too cute!" Ugh, I hate the term cute when it comes to TMNT too.
I have a "Chicks Dig the Ride" Party Wagon shirt, but I never saw that magnet, was that at Hot Topic? I don't like that "Ninja Please!", or the "Strictly for my Ninjas" one at all. Does anyone else see anything wrong with that? I mean sure the stupidity factor, but how about the connotations implied? I don't think it's okay to make a play on words like that, making a parody of a word that should not even be spoken. And I do know it's in reference to the "a" on the end version of the word, but still, not cool.

I don't really get this rant, to be honest. Are you saying that the word 'Ninja' should not be spoken? Also, what's in reference to the "a" in the word? Am I just being stupid and not seeing what you're seeing, or what?

Yeah I remember those, but I never saw the racism in them at the time. Maybe a little more now, but it was visually interesting at least. The turtle on the shirt isn't visually interesting to me, in fact you really couldn't get more basic. Him also having a grill in his mouth doesn't help me with it, either. I guess it's just one of those words I never liked, nor it's "reinvention", and using it on TMNT items just makes me ill. I do remember a couple veiled references in the cartoon, but mostly I remember the sexist ones. There were a lot of those.
TMNT_Guy: That is crazy, Batman of all characters, the one who is half villian to begin with. I get the, "is this for your children?" question from older people mostly. But never on any Batman figure, I just figured that most people realize now, at least when it comes to the main comic heroes, that they are for all ages. The issue with TMNT though is half the people out there don't even realize it's a comic, let alone that the comic came first.

This was my case when I saw the original movie. I had been exposed to TMNT through the cartoons so I found it weird that in the movie Splinter was a rat and not a man.
To be honest, even now that I know I still find it stupid. How could a rat learn martial arts? At least if he was human it makes sense.

I can't say I find that a peeve. If I was wanting rid of some random figures, say three or four Playmates ones, and had a McDonald's one sitting there, also wanting to sell, why would'nt I not mix them up? It's not as if they are super rare enough to sell on their own for a decent buck or two.

I don't care if the toy is included with the lot but what bugs me is when the seller thinks that by adding a Happy Meal toy to the lot it adds more value and increases the number of figures in the lot (sure maybe 15 cents but a few dollars... hell no!) Basically they are labeling the Happy Meal toy as a Playmates toy, maybe I wasn't specific enough... Sell the toy, I don't care but label it as a McDonalds toy and not a Playmates Action Figure...
It might not be a peeve to you, but it is too me... And it is really annoying... Especially when you see a lot of 6 Figures and 4 of them are Happy Meal toys and the seller is asking for playmate prices...

I think that is an misunderstanding from a foreign seller:
Let me explain:
A "lot" means differents items....but in Spanish a "Lot" means too "a single /(or not) object for an auction...".
For example: "Lot TMNT": can be multiples TMNT items or can be "one item" for an auction...

I've always thought the 3 fingers/2 toes was a parody of Nightcrawler. IDK.

I'm sure the 2 toe thing is a parody of the ninja-boots most ninjas wear that look like 2 big toes, to go with the whole 'ninja' thing. Not sure about the 3 finger thing.

Amen, sistah! With all the different species of turtles/tortoises I've worked with, not a one of them had only 3 fingers and 2 toes.

And none of them have teeth either.

the lack of fingers never bothered me, It seems to happen with mutants from the ooze/mutagen.
the turtles do get teeth as well, and a humanoid body form.

ooh.. here's another one, about fan art.
People drawing the shells on the outside of their clothes, see it all the time on deviant art when people put clothes on either the turtles or their fan characters. or the belts going under the shell.

I actually saw a picture that cleared that one up, well for their clothing in their universe. RCaptain I think was the artist, they had hooks on the clothing that connected to the shell or something like that. Kind of inventive.

Now that I am going through her gallery I have another pet peeve, female TMNT fan alternate universe things/OC's and general weird made up fandoms. Why can't I just find more regular TMNT female fan not into weird crap? I swear it is so hard to find any female fan that likes canon TMNT.
:ohwell: But that is just my opinion anyway... Ba humbug.
Edit:
Maybe I am looking in the wrong areas?

I guess I just find it interesting to see what people remember the most. I guess that part of the theme song really stuck with people.

Maybe the song writer thought shells were egg shaped?

I always had a weird thought when I was younger that the whole "Half-Shell" Thing came from just "Half Hero and Half Turtle"
But it still makes no sense.
One of my peeves, and I know it's been mentioned before, is when the older Fans who only watched the OT think that it's the orignal TMNT, And they act so stubborn and bash the idea and think the comics don't even exist. That one REALLY irks me lol so I use this:

Interestingly, I've never been made fun of for liking TMNT because it's too "kiddie" or anything like that. People that I meet generally remember enjoying the turtles too. I only got made fun of when my friends got tired of hearing so much about them, lol.
I do get frustrated when the OT is dimissed as a goofy kids show. In many ways its humor was very intelligent. Watching it as an adult now, I realize how many pop culture references I was unaware of as a child.
I definitely understand that some people prefer the original comics and that's totally fine. But that doesn't mean the OT was bad; it was just a different interpretation.

I don't really get made fun of either. I'm a girl, so I guess it's considered cool for a girl to like TMNT and stuff.

I am too and I think you're right, it's different sometimes if girls like TMNT. It's so unexpected people don't even notice how old you are, lol.
I use ta have a lotta pet peeves. But, they all ran away when I got started taking my new vitamins. At least, that's what my parents told me. I actually wouldn't even care if they really got run over. Those were the lamest, most ingrateful pets I've ever had. I'm sticking with cats from now on.

Dude, that's a pun on "turtle on the halfshell". That's a fancy type of food. Howie Hardy pretty much hinted at that in his hit single, Heroes In A Halfshell:
Heroes in a halfshell
Not weasels in a cream sauce
Heroes in a halfshell
They're tubular and way boss
Heroes in a halfshell
They ain't no enchilada
Heroes in a halfshell
They don't do the lambada
I wanna be a hero like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

- Whenever someone sees me drawing one of the Turtles thay always ask which one it is, and some of those people watched the cartoon when they were younger.
- The few times I've talked about the Turtles with other people they always answered Michelangelo was their favorite, nobody cared for the other 3.
- When I talk about Donatello people always tell a penis joke, I wish I was joking but I'm serious, it's sad I know.
- Talking with my brother about the Turtles back in the early 2000s and asking him how Donatello knew so much about science and my brother replying "He studied it when he was human, I suppose." WHAT? He actually grew up during the peak of TMNT's popularity and was a hardcore fan of the Turtles, how could he make a mistake like that?
- My brother saying that the new toon is garbage due to "The Turtles being blind and travelling through space, Ninja Turtles to me is all about New York City." Like the OT didn't have as much sci-fi, right...
