I remember those, crazy for them as a kid.
And I turned out smoke free

I remember my mom sending me out as a kid to pick her up a new pack of cigarettes from the corner store. I'd get to keep the change from her cigarette purchase to buy any candy I liked. Usually it was a tie between candy cigarettes of my own and Swedish Fish.
Oh the things they'd let you do in the early 1980s.

I don't really remember besides a couple of instances, using them to make-belive smoke, think I just wrapped them up and ate them like average candy

Those were delicious. I don't think those turned anyone into a smoker any more than bubble pipes did.

Ah, I remember when Popeye candy cigarettes became mere candy sticks!

I remember these, my friend and I got them from vending machines sometimes. Of course they got banned after awhile, but I assure you neither one of us ever started smoking. Not to sound corny but we knew the difference between candy and cancer, heh.

They're just a chalky sort of candy that look sort of like cigarettes. They're round sticks.

Chocolate to the left, chalk to the right

Oh those were the bee's knees!
I enjoyed both chocolate and the chalky ones greatly when I was a kid.
Surprisingly, I didn't end up as a smoker.

They sort of melt in your mouth and leave a chalky, sweet flavor.
I haven't had one of those since I was 8 years old. I should track them down. I can't remember how I got them but my mother must have bought them, which seems odd in retrospect because we're good old Baptists and don't really believe in smoking.

As far as I know my parents didn't mind the candy cigarettes; they knew they had laid down the law regarding smoking. But my Grandpa, who did smoke, got very annoyed when I told him about the candy and warned me to NEVER start smoking. I wouldn't have, but that definitely left an impression.

Ah, yeah, I used to get those all the time!
The memories! The overly sweet, chalky taste!
I don't remember except for very few times actually pretending to smoke with them. I more remember biting them off in little teeny pieces.
Brings me back.

I think I still have a box of uneaten TMNT ones still floating around here somewhere....
Fhat the wuck? They have TMNT versions too?!

Also: I had no idea there were chocolate versions. I was apparently deprived as a child by the small selection of the local shop.
Were they real chocolate or, uh, CHALKolate?

We would pretend to smoke with them, I admit, but it was all in good fun. The great majority of people who smoke didn't start because of candy cigarettes, heh. It's peer pressure, rebellion and the feeling you get. It seems to me so many young people are still smoking in our culture because adults don't have a clue what triggers it.
And I didn't know they came in chocolate either! Sheesh, where was I? lol

Two-kay-three, yo.
And here I thought they were old school from the 80's... And I was going to tell you, I don't think those things ever go bad, so have at 'em.
But seeing as they're only 7 years old, you're definitely still good. ;)
So much for the 'Drug Dealers are Dorks' commercials.

Oh no, drug dealers are still dorks. If Donatello says it that's good enough for me, hehe.

Same here O.o I had no idea of the chocolate ones!
I used to get them all the time....and I never once tried a real cigarette... of coarse thru repetition my parents told me if they ever caught me smoking real ones they wouldn't hesitate to take their only child out of this world. :P
I think that worked....

How queer. Here in Canada they're called Swedish Berries.

Apparently they taste exactly the same.
