I just saw Mr Sakai in Calgary, Alberta last Sat at the Calgary Comic & Ent Expo. Sure gets around doesnt he. I got him to sign Yosagi Nojimbo book one from Fantagraphix. He puts a sketch in it all the time when signing it seems. I couldnt say a word to him. I was to gobsmacked. But he was so proud that I was coming up to him to get his work signed by him. As to others as well when getting their signings from him. I almost felt like asking him if he was good friends with Peter Laird but kept myself from asking. It was cool though.

Definitely going... Rochester always makes this a city-wide event. And it all wraps up at the local bar. Fun Stuff! :goof:

Stan "The Man" Sakai will also be at Motor City Comic Con, later this month! :D

And I will probably be too shy to talk to him. :(

I will be going for the comics. I don't know of many TMNT related folks signing on the East Coast.

damn, living in Norway sucks. at least there's 2 stores in Oslo that have free comics, I'm off soon to check it out. Maybe since i live in the capital city I might see some Norwegian artists... maybe

EDIT: But noooooo! 1st May, Workers Day, my comic shop is closed, even thought they had advertised about free comic book day.
have not checked the other store since it's so far away. gotta goggle it first

EDIT EDIT: Norway got it on 8te May instead, since all stores are closed and people with a political agenda can march in the streets and shout out their opinion, usually commies, hippies, people who want a free Palestina, and people against oil. And foreign people having their native language written on their banners

It's been awhile since I've seen Stan on the east coast! I just got a flyer in the mail about this one, I might go. I remember meeting Stan a few times at Mid-Ohio Con in the '90s.

There's typically no guests in my area for Free Comic Book Day, but I'm gonna check it out anyway. Should be fun.

Happy Free Comic Book Day! We are about ready to start our romp. Send any pictures you take to me @ [email protected] to have them included in our post later :-) We will also be trying to wrangle a couple things from Stan to give out to folks that couldnt make it. I'm sure I'll come up with some silly writing assignment ;-)

Haha that's cool! My wife and I just finished up our rounds. We spent about an hour talking with artist Lorenzo Lizana about his work on Powder Puff Girls, his personal projects, and other things he is currently working on. We got a fantastic sketch from his upcoming project Little Lost Angels. He told us the story behind the idea and all of that great stuff. This guy was amazingly friendly and will be at Project Comic-Con 2010 in St. Louis if anyone wants to meet him. Below is the photo of the sketch and the other goodies we got today...

Only mishap today was one of the local comic shops actually closed which I didn't even know. I was there just a few weeks ago... Oh well!

I just got back from it here in NH and I had a fun time :). I met up with Machias Banshee and we talked about TMNT stuff and other stuff too. She is very nice in person and my first time meeting someone on here :).

All i got was loud obnoxious horrible singing from hippies and commies. not joking they actually sang. the some woman was yelling in her megaphone. I could not work with my school project, since i wanted to make the best out of it while I already was in the city.
sadly the megaphone in the class room was out of batteries, I'd yelled back STFU.

I'm disappointed, but I'll get my stuff next week, May 8. It's on my girlfriends birthday

A few local artists where at one shop I went to (got a Deadpool sketch). There was also a local Ghostbuster, you know, in case anybody wanted to know.

Ugh. I was rained in all day. Couldn't get out of my subdivision due to flash flooding. Missed everything.

It was fun meeting you too, Leo.. :)

It was a hot sunshiny day here in Rochester. Our location was PACKED. It took an hour just to get into the comic shop, there were lines down both sides of the street and even in the back of the shop there was a line. Apparently there was 'extra credit' going on with the schools, so there were families and kids EVERYwhere. It was such a great turnout. People in costumes, swordfights and stuntbikes... fantastic.

The only bummer I had was.. there were like four turtle issues in the entire store, period. They didn't even have the free comic day editions, so I'm glad I got those last year.

We got the shop about 30 minutes before it closed so it was leftovers for us. Still some fun stuff for the girls and the shop was giving away trading cards and old War Hammer figures.. I did score a few TMNT back issues too for pretty cheap..

Wish there was a comic book store around here. I could have gone to a library down in Puyallup tho but still too far for comics (a library? WTF? ). Went to a Civil War reinacment instead. The guy playing Abraham Lincoln was awesome.

Why is a library doing things involving comics "Wtf" worthy? I think a vast -vast- majority of libraries have embraced comics and graphic novels as a contemporary literary outlet.

I don't see why its surprising that they'd be involved with FCBD.

Another year, another free comic book day I miss out on :(

Ah well. I got to smash the hell out of five clocks so at least I made the most out of the day.

Well, I live in the same general area as Raph's Girl, if I'm not mistaken (I'm in Tacoma), and my local library doesn't have anything newer comic-wise than the old Animaniacs and Archies they had there when I was a kid. They don't even have any Super Hero comics anymore. Anything outside of early-90's non-action oriented ones has to be brought in from another branch.
