View Full Version : Birth dates?

I know this is most likely the most stupid question in the world. But is there actual birth dates of the turtles? Like month/day and maybe year they were born/hatched whatever? Was it said in the comics, shows, movies, or even on the turtle's site somewhere?

There have been a few variations from different sources. I believe Playmates was the most consistent of those sources.

Officially, no, the Turtles' actual birthdates are unknown. From Mirage's old site:

What are the Turtles' ages in chronological order? What are their birth dates?

Like their bloodline, their actual birthdays and ages have never been officially defined by Mirage Studios and thus are unknown.

I heard somewhere Laird said their 'age order' is (eldest to youngest) Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo. But they're so close in age, it wouldn't matter.

In most cases, I just tend to consider them to have a birthday on the same day of some random holiday.. like for example.. New Years if I'm writing for RP or fan fiction or something.

Ditto. I've used 12/21 for Raph. It being the longest night of the year and all. Then either 4/1 or 10/31 for Mike. Sometimes both, with the notion that when they were choosing days, no one had the heart to tell Mike he couldn't have two.

Figured Don would choose Newton's birthday, but never did come up with one for Leo.

In the Archie comics, wasn't Splinter (as Hamato Yoshi) born 1930 or something?

from the 1988 cards, the turtles age are:
Leo: 16
Birthplace: McMahon's Pet Emporium, Chesabeake Bay

Mikey: 15 1\2
Birthplace: Woodys Pet Shop, Pennshellvania

Don: 15
Birthplace: Joe's Pet Place, Slowklahoma

Raph: 15

I've always imagined their ages, from oldest to youngest:
Leo, Don, Raph and Mikey

Just the way I prefer it, I guess.

and a lot of the old posters seemed to depict Don as the tallest, so I always thought that of him.

I remember as a kid I always thought it was a little strange that the TMNT Arcade game (I think that's the right game) listed Splinter's age in his profile as 30. I guess it would make sense for Hamato Yoshi, but I always thought of Splinter as this wise old master and 30 just seemed too young for him.

I definitely remember the Playmates cards with the Turtle profiles, but those always seemed off to me. I agree that it's strange that Michaelangelo is the second oldest. Also, wasn't Donatello listed as 4'0'' while the others were like 5'0" to 5'1"? Why was he a foot shorter?

Spacebabie

Splinter at 30? Yeah I guess that would work with the old toon since the turtles were teens when they mutated, but with the new toon he would have been the equivilant to fifteen when he came across the turtles.

I recall a Ninja Turtles Old Toons episode where they celebrate Michelangelo's birthday and April gives him a kiss. It's his only birthday celebration shown. What about the others :D

Also the arcade game gives their bio of their ages but no dates mentioned.

In other words, nonsense.

Unless there's ever a story that shows the order of the pre-mutant TMNT hatching from their mother's eggs, any birthdates given would just be guesswork or rubbish. There's no way the Turtles would even know.

Volume 3 at Image seemed to show them celebrating their birthday on a singular day (both their 18th and 19th), which would make sense. Though it would probably just be the day of their mutation, or something close thereto.

I know about those cards that Kiwamu The Kappa comments, I think those cards stand out the fact that the turtles are not brothers from same litter...at same time those cards tries to explain their different personalities...
But Im most agree with Andrew NDB...probably they celebrate their birthdays at same date, around the day Splinter found all of them!
And the order of "elder to younger" is due to his personalities that to his royal edade...

First Leo: most responsible
Second Raph: the rebel.
Third: Don neutral.
Fourth: Mike most childish.

Yeah I always thought their age was the same, with the only difference being in like minutes. with Leo being the Oldest, Donnie being second and Mike and Raph being the same age. But for the most part I think their age is pretty irrelavent.

celebrating the day they mutated seems more plausible, since there is no way to know the real date they hatched.

Yeah. Mikey's birthdate in that ep was given as around January 16th (there was a calender marking it). And later on Raph had a birthday ep too. His birthdate was given as Feb 4th.

In the Archie series Splinter's birthdate was given as May 15th.

Someone knows the size of a 1year turtle? If they mutated in their first 6 months, Leo would have 1 and 1/2 years and mike 1 year old when that happened, they were no baby turtles.

Turtle maturity depends on the size. Most are mature at around 5 - 15 years of age depending on the species. But generally it depends more on size than age.

""But you can never say that a child for being the firstborn, the second or fifth is determined to provide fixed and invariable characteristics, but the studies seem to find it much more likely, according to the same order, present a different personality sign.

In this way, always in general terms, one can say that the former is usually more serious, more formal, responsible, orderly and introverted, is the recipient of values, that being an only child receives more attention and commitment (of time) positively and negatively. They tend to be more precocious and lonely individual or the rest of the family because at birth the second desentronización experience a kind of making them by themselves accomplish many areas previously dealt with the support of parents.

The second son, or medium in the order, it is usually more diplomatic and happy, because unlike the former already has a certain "open road" that has left the greatest, parents already have experience and not overprotective So for what its degree of sociability and competitiveness will be greater than in the case of first, establishing a kind of a struggle to try to outdo the other and the first for trying to defend what they consider theirs.

As more offspring, parental education is weakened, and the youngest is usually more spoiled and pampered and somewhat rebellious, and perhaps a little predictable. While the latter precisely because, not having any other that will keep his position of attention, the pampering can arouse a certain feeling of inferiority to his older brothers but might also be more open way all his brothers were exceeded."""

Another post:
"""Older sisters, younger brothers or half brothers are more than simple labels that people use to describe a family psychologists argue that birth order of siblings has an impact on all aspects of the personality of a child.
Older brothers, younger brothers

First born or first-born: The first children born are natural leaders. Often tend to perfectionism, and are trustworthy and conscientious. Children born first does not react well against surprises and can be aggressive, but often pleasurable. Children born to first tend to have a strong need for approval from others. Examples of first born children include Oprah Winfrey, Peter Jennings, Rush Limbaugh and more than half of the presidents of the United States.
Only children: Only children are similar to the first-born children. The characteristics of an only child, however, tend to be strengthened. They are more perfectionistic, more responsible and tend to get along better with people older than individuals of the same age. Examples of only children are Robin Williams, Natalie Portman, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Frank Sinatra and Lauren Bacall.

Children in the middle: The middle children are generally more difficult to stereotype. They tend to be the opposite of his older brother, but this can manifest in a variety of ways. The middle children typically feel that their older brother steals the attention, while the younger brother could commit murder and get away with it. They tend to be reserved, more staffs and less likely to talk about their emotions. Since middle children often feel that their family does not pay enough attention, create stronger ties with their peers, are excellent readers of the feelings of others and are great conciliators.

The youngest child: Children born latter tend to be outgoing, social butterflies. They are also more financially unstable of all the brothers as their main concern is usually that of some fun. The youngest son of the family is often very charming, but manipulative and spoiled. Examples of minor children are Billy Crystal, Goldie Hawn, Drew Carey, Jim Carrey and Steve Martin.

While these are typical given by birth order, there are some exceptions, such as when there is a lot of time between births of each, allowing the mix of features, or if the first child is a girl and the next child. Deaths, adoptions and blended families may also affect these characteristics"""

Interesting reading, and surely something to consider, it's just....didn't Splinter find them all at the same time?

I totally see using this information as a means by which to assume their birth order via their behavior, but I don't know that the circumstances the quotes require actually could have happened.

This is true. If that were the case my sister wouldn't be more mature than my brother (who is 8 years older). Point is this thread is just a matter of opinion unless you base it all on the character cards from the playmates toys which are either A) all 15 or B) In orderfrom oldest to youngest Leo, Mikey and Don/Raph. To be frank though Idoubt anyone will change their minds when this thread is over and done with.

Could be because they are all adopted, or because... I read somewhere even twin brothers, the first in born (just for a few seconds or one minute) take the big bro rol...and second the little bro rol, even when they was born almost at same time ...perhaps It happened with the four at same time founded by Splinter...Simply digressing...:twink:

I was looking at wikipedia, it said Raph is second oldest in the 2k3.
"Raphael appears to live in the shadow of Leonardo and resents his brother's social position in the group. This was only confirmed in the new cartoon, and the reasons for so stated, where in his pre-teen years, he competed with Leonardo for leadership of the Turtles (because he is the strongest in might though he is the second youngest according to the creators)"

Also on wiki for Mike
While he loves to relax, party, and eat pizza, this Turtle also has an adventurous and creative side. He is the youngest of the four

So
Leo
Raph
Don
Mike

I hate how they put that Raph is second oldst to Leo in recent incarnations. I've always thought of Raph as the second to youngest.

wow, I'm the middle child and this is sooo me!:o Yeah. Mikey's birthdate in that ep was given as around January 16th

huh? I thought it was August or July. The calender had a beach picture on it with a palm tree.

And I'm not all that surprised Mike is the second oldest in the OT. They never played him up as the youngest in that series and he never really acted like he was the youngest. He just had a more extraverted and fun loving personalty in that medium. Which I appreciated.

Yes, but since the show only aired for 9 years (1987-1996), it was not that floating timeline like Simpsons or Superman. It may be a bigger problem for the Mirage comics. I'm not a fan of floating timelines.

I never officially checked, but I always thought of them as ( oldest to youngest): Leo, Raph, Don, Mikey. Here are my reasons based off of some child psychology stuff both from books and my own experiences:

With Leo, I choose oldest because the first born tend to be held responsible for the other siblings . The first child sometimes end up a little bitter/ stressed/ bossy at younger siblings due to the constant responsibility and feel a bit cheated out of the gentleness/freedoms that his/her younger siblings received. Raph makes this time of stress pretty hard to take, so I figure it is a good reason for Leo's side of the Leo V.S. Raph arguments.

With Raph, I figure that second child would make ALOT of sense actually. He is older than the others, making him more mature in his own way (thus some of his pessimistic charms). He does not get the "gentleness" that the younger siblings have and may feel a certain amount of responsibility, having a similar stress to Leo. However he is still under the constant watch of an older sibling, causing restriction of responsibilities and power without the benefit of the freedoms of being younger. This increases his stress and gives him a middle child syndrome, causing Raph's side of the Leo V.S. Raph arguments.

With Don, I figure second youngest is best. This position is a good place to be for anyone. Though this can count as the middle child, it's on another end of the spectrum. He doesn't have the same amount of responsibility stress as the other two. He still has some authority over a younger sibling, but not too much because there are two others that pretty much has that covered and would be too much to fight for it. The youngest child tends to get the most attention/ abused from the other siblings. With pretty much a lack of everything, this type of middle child tends to get left out/forgotten. Though this can lead to some social issues, it does allow the child to have a lot of time to himself. Don's cool mood, quietness and love for science could have all been developed from lacking the attention of his brothers and having to entertain himself.

With Mikey, being youngest is best for him because the youngest tend to be a bit spoiled and immature. The youngest also tends to have stress from being under the constant watch of his older siblings and having no authority, which could explain some of Mikey's self-esteem issues.

I hope that makes sense. :tlol:
