I'm almost positive I've seen this thread before & if not I can say in confidence its been done before I joined this board... But since we've been arguing in the Michael Bay thread about what'd be better to see, lets find out which group of fans serve to be the majority here.

No in betweens, one or the other. Don't say I like mirage Don better then toon Don but Toon Raph trumps all or whatever. Pick one or don't bother.

Do you prefer the comic turtles or the toon turtles?

Personally, as a child I loved the toon, I still do, but I grew up. When I did, I realized the turtles did too & so I followed the comics. My vote goes to Mirage Studios.

Not exactly a work of science, this poll.
I mean, we're on a Wolf inspired forum afterall...

I love all the versions, but the one that nails the franchise down for me is the Mirage comics.

Fred Wolf. Easier to digest- especially Raphael.

Cartoon when I was a kid, (or in fact, it was the toys that I loved). Now i'm older, i'm all about the comics. And I do still pick up a toy or two now and again. But mainly the comics. Especially Mirage.

I refuse to pick, I love them both for very different reasons.

I loved the cartoon when was I little, and for a time considered it the definitive version (this was before I had any of the Mirage comics, and I had maybe read about a handful of the Archie seires).

But nowadays, while the first season was great, seasons 2 and 3 were enjoyable enough, when I watch episodes from the CBS seasons (or at least try to, in some cases), my reaction is almost always incredible boredom.

I have a bunch of Mirage issues (plus some of the collections), and while I haven't read too many yet (I plan to read them all maybe later this year), what I have read struck as very interesting well-characterized. I even thought Mark Martin's stuff (which isn't canon, but that's not the point) was pretty funny and appealingly drawn.

So, yeah, I'm going with Mirage.

I go with Mirage. Aside from the first issue they seem more real to me.

OT was the best of its kind and took care of that version perfectly. 03 cartoon took care of another version. So we had both already, and the only one we didnt have was the Mirage version, for which I dont care at all but at least its something fresh. I dont like any repeats so if theyre gonna do a new toon, let the OT and 03 cartoons be and try something new. While I dont find the 03 series appealing, at least it had a major plus of creating something completely new and independent of the previous version. I would like the same for the new cartoon

As for my preference, well, I already gave my opinion. Mirage I dont care for all. The whole darkness thing is overplayed and corny, so I dont care for it. I care for quality. The mirage turtles were nice for the beginning stages, but the 87 cartoon took it to the next level. Theres a reason why TMNT toon was so unbelievably popular and not some other cartoon, even tho there were tons of them with the same animation and humor etc. Theres a reason why those characters and their villains became so iconic and not some others from that era.The toon had very vivid and distinctive characters that you could really get attached to, great, Vader-like villain with unique personality, great design and menacing voice and very imaginative adventures and foes. While you could always predict whos gonna win, you couldnt predict how. And each episode was very fresh and different from the other, so it was always something new. And again, characters, characters, characters. One thing for sure about the 80s - it was the most imaginative and over the top (in a good way) decade for the pop culture in general

As a kid I did not have the slightest idea there were even comics, and i activley read comics as a kid. Now that I'm thinking about it i do remember reading a comic my friend had, and at the time it made zero sense to me. Why were they all raphael? wheres shredder and krang, bebop, rocksteady, whys it in black and white?

But as I grew up i became aware of comic, just in absorbing knowledge online. But I've always heard people swear how much better the comic is and how it's pure and a jillion times better than anything. Your not a true fan if you don't love it. and it's more mature better written yada yada.

I had the oppertunity to read all of it online, so i did. From what people were saying i was expecting it to be really good.

I thought basically up to the intial ultrom/triceriton arc was good. Like 7 the first 7 issues IIRC.

Then basically it becomes terrible until the foot get involved. I find it all just so mind numbingly random boring and pointless. I don't want to read about turtles doing boring ass stuff in the woods. I know it's more "mature" but it's boring as hell to me. I mean fine it doesn't have to be action all the time, and there trying to give good characterization, but it just drags on and on and on and on and on. The book suffers from not having any cool characters outside of the foot to interact with and make interesting stories. Plus I'm not huge on the art, and i just find the arts style visually dull. It's not because of the lack of color, I pretty much only read manga these days and thats all in black and white and i think theres lots of great B&W art.

Then they did city at war and that totally kicked ass [except boring ass april pointless stuff] thats how the book should be all the time, it just seems like so much potential is wasted with mirage. Because in theory I'd like a more mature, well written TMNT, but in execution i feel they missed the mark too much. I wish i read some kind of abriged version that stuck to the good parts.

The Toon, is fun, and i don't have to watch 12 episodes of the turtles wandering around aimlessly in the woods for 1 episode of fighting the shredder. Plus the cartoon has all these awesome iconic cool characters besides the turtles. April does stuff now, splinter, shredder, krang, bebop rocksteady, baxter, the foot. And tons of cool guest stars. It's all very visually interesting, where mirage feel bland and boring.

While I loved the toon 100% as a kid, well except neutrino episodes i always hated those guys. But now I feel the first seasons pretty good, and allot of it sucked but there were good random episodes here and there and i always liked guest star episodes where they meet new mutants. So I gues it's like mirage in that only parts are good.

See to me I'd love to see a fusion of the two which be to take all the cool visually interesting iconic characters from the toon. But try to make it a bit more mature, where people can get hurt in fights, and maybe even die. But not in over the top manner, but i'd be nice if the badguys were more of a threat than a joke.

So while i think they both have flaws, I do like toon universe much more. But as a kid the thing I loved the most were the toys.

and if it's about which group of fans for bay to cater too, I'm pretty sure he'll piss on all of them equally and make horrible movie that has nothing to do with tmnt outside of the name. Like those one horrible movies which i refuse to acknowledge or even call them "transformers" because they arnt. I call it "random spinning scrap metal the movie". Pretty much some the gist of the plot.

Mirage all the way. I do love the toon and grew up with it but now that im older and my tastes have changed, I prefer the more violent Tmnt. Funny how that works out, eh?

(this is based on off-board experiences, and has nothing to do with anybody here)

I have to vote old 'Toon. I read mirage, and I tried to like it.... I really did. But the characters, even though they were the 'original versions', did not feel like the Turtles I had known growing up.

In my opinion, just because the comics are 'darker' and 'grittier' than the Fred Wolf cartoon does not somehow make them this 'superior', 'sophisticated' piece of work. I hate it when I hear my friends who've read the comics go 'ahhhh! no old toon stuff!' treating the comics as some sacred text on how the Turtles should be potrayed, and the cartoon that lauched thier popularity treated as an apocraphyal blasphemy.

Rocksteady, Bebop, Mona Lisa, Mondo Gecko, and all the other 'toon characters are just as much a part of the TMNT mythology as Casey Jones, Fugitiod, or any of the Mirage characters. These characters could be reimagined in a darker, more mirage- like manner.... they need not be goofy just because they came from the fred wolf cartoon.

Some people need to drop thier snobby, arrogant 'the comics are the only true TMNT' stance every time someone suggests bringging old toon characters or concepts back. I'm hoping that under Nick many of the old characters WILL return, and the franchise may be all the better for it!:tgrin:

Your Kahn decrees it!

You draw a hard line Powder, but definitely Mirage. If it came out with a little 2k3 influence, all the better.
