View Full Version : Blatant Error in some issues of vol. 1, #1

Hey all,
I never really took the time to actually read my copy of vol. 1 #1's 2009 color reprint, seeing as how I already knew the story. I just wanted to look at the pretty pictures :D
Anyway, I was going through it today, and I noticed a rather peculiar error on the top of page 15.
Under Nagi's leadership, The Foot was soon involved in many criminal activities...
Now hold the phone here. It obviously should be Saki, not Nagi... Nagi's been dead for years. Since I'm already on my laptop, I hop over to ninjaturtles.com... it says Saki there, not Nagi, on their scans of the original issue. So I dig through all of my many (though not complete) reprints of the issue.
Reprintings 4 and 5 say Saki. So does the Special Deluxe Edition, PBBZ Edition, GameStop Edition, and Free Comic Book Day Edition.
However, my 3rd reprinting does indeed say Nagi, as well.
I was wondering if anybody else noticed this (as I've never seen it discussed), and wonder why only two editions that I've seen out of eight are incorrect?

Huh. That IS weird. I only own the 4th printing, the First Comics color collection printing, the Free Comic Book Day printing and the 2009 color reprint, myself. And, as you say, they all say "Saki" (except the 2009 color reprint, of course).
Have you checked the 1st and 2nd printings (assuming you own those)? What do those say? Strange that out of the 5 original printings, only the 3rd would say "Nagi" while the two before it and the two after it wouldn't.
In regards to the 2009 color reprint, the likeliest explanation I can muster is that the colorists used the 3rd printing as their base rather than the 1st (assuming the 1st doesn't say "Nagi" as well; I don't own it) and weren't aware of the error.

I do not own the first or second printings (and I do have the 1st/Penguin Publishing color edition... forgot to check that, but if you have already done so and confirmed Saki, I'll take your word for it). I'm assuming the scans on the official site are first or second printing, and they say Saki, so... well, I don't know....
EDIT: 2009's collected book also says Saki....

Yeah, the First Comics color trade says "Saki".
In regards to the scans on the official site, I suppose it's possible that they might have just scanned any ole printing and not necessarily the 1st or 2nd?
It might be a safer bet for someone who owns those particular printings to check first hand just in case whoever scanned the book to the site didn't use the earlier printings.

Yeah, at this point, it looks like it might have been a third printing that was uploaded to the site, unless someone finds the error in either of the other two printings. I also don't own the hardcover edition, so I wonder which name is printed there....

Wait, does this mean the reprint is the same as the colored trades? If so, I don't think I want one anymore:\

Are you asking if the 2009 color reprint is the same as the color version from the First Comics trade paperbacks? If so, then no, they aren't the same. The 2009 color reprint is a completely new coloring from the First Comics editions.
The question that remains is whether the 1st and 2nd printings of TMNT #1 contain the "Nagi" error. The earliest we've traced it back is the 3rd printing. So we still need someone who owns the 1st and 2nd printings to check for us and confirm whether the error was restricted to the 3rd printing (and the 2009 color reprint).

I can't help on the 1st or 2nd printings.
But while we are on the subject...
My copy of the 5th printing of #1 features a couple pages out of order in the back up story, "Not One Word." Can anybody else confirm?

my 5th print has no problem with that back up story.
