View Full Version : How old were you when the original cartoon started in 1987?

Back in 1987, I was 2 1/2 years old. lol.

I think I began watching the Turtles in 1988 or 1989 when I was 3-4 though.

It amazes me how young I was yet I still got swept up in the TMNT craze somehow.

I was born in July of 88 so I wasn't even a fetus yet. Been watching it ever since I can remember. My Dad told me he used to sit me in front of the TV to keep me busy while he did house work and a lot of the time it'd be when turtles was on. I saw Turtles 2 in theaters but I barely remember it. Seeing 3 was the only one I can remember, and it's memories of extreme disappointment.

Yeah basically the same for me, my brother just watched it with me on a VHS. And I had a cool turtle that spinned on it's shell. Yeah...

Unless you were more than three months premature, you were a fetus at that time. It was last week of December/first week of January that the pilot season premiered.

I was five at the time. It's funny because I don't remember being very into the turtles when I was young. Not until I was older and could appreciate the characters.

I remember my first encounter with TMNT. In first grade we had a special day where we could watch a TV show for some reason. I think the teachers were in conference and they needed a way to placate us all. Everybody voted for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I had never heard of it and thought it was the stupidest thing I'd ever heard of. I remember watching it and thinking that Krang was really creepy. I never watched the movies until I was a pre-teen and then realized the greatness of it all.

about a year, so its surprising I still caught the TMNT fad at its peak.

I love the year I was born, I got to experience all of the 90s mostly, saw plenty of 80s stuff through re-runs in the early 90s and finished off my childhood with the peak of the Pokemon fad. My childhood almost spans what three generations recall as their childhood

Whoa... I just remembered something interesting. After watching the first five eps on New Orleans' independent station repeatedly, I was ready to look my back on it when the significantly less exciting second season came on. The only thing to keep me focused on the show was the fact my mom gave me all four of the Turtles figures for Christmas. So, I kept watching in order to reenact episodes.

Didn't it last some time to spread the hype, even across the USA. Wasn't 1989 the year it peaked in the USA? In Sweden, it appeared in 1990, peaked in 1991 and died out by 1994.

I've been lucky enough, in life, to grow up during the 80's and be a teenager in the 90's. I don't think the upcoming decades of my life could be any more fun.

Well I mean it can, but somethings will forever be missing, like cartoons as kick-ass as TMNT, Thundercats, MASK, etc, as well as going to arcades, which are now close to extinction.

Ha, I know exactly what you mean. The 80's and early 90's were an amazing time to be a kid. Also, for all those hours I spent pumping quarters into the TMNT arcade game and others, the fate of arcades is something that leaves me feeling more than a little melancholy.

Due to reruns on cable TV I was able to watch it back in 1996/1997 and between 2002 and 2004.
