I finally got all of the issues for Volume 2 and read them through in their entirety. After reading it I really enjoyed it a great deal more than the fragmented first time I read it.
Artwise, I think Vol. 2 contained some of Jim Lawson's best work (outside of Return to New York). I also liked seeing the TMNT in color. I thought the guys over at Mirage made good use of it throughout the series.
Storywise, I was also quite impressed. Lawson, Laird, & Co. again went for the longer, slower evolving storyline ala "City At War". Although it was slower paced there was plenty of action, a ton of violence, and a great deal of effort was put into the characters. I particularly liked the storyline about the TMNT trying to go off and live on their own.
I felt a little cheated that the story ended after only 13 issues. There was clearly more avenues they could have explored (ex: the Splinter death foreshadow). It's even sadder that the next TMNT to be seen after Vol. 2 was Vol. 3 :dead: . Hopefully Vol. 4 will further these adventures.
Although this series was not quite as well written or epic as "City At War", I really enjoyed it. After reading it, it made me wish that Vol. 4 would pack a little more punch and have some better characterization. Although, this can change with a few great issues.
