View Full Version : Reason Eastman and Laird split?
Does anyone know why Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird went their separate ways?
Was it creative differences?

Kevin splitted because he believed that his artistic abilities was needed somewhere else from what I herd, not sure where though, and left everything else to PL after he announced that on the TMNT site.
(If someone else knows MORE correct me please)

Jesus...
I started lurking these forums when the 2k3 show started and I remember this. I was only 12 and actually thought that was real for like a year or two lol.
that was actually funny - i wouldn't be surprised if that was the truth.

Hmm...
There's also the argument based on "internal evidence":

Signs seem to point to Eastman being, if not the creator of Venus, then at least the one who was the most accepting and supportive of her existence. (for example, a Venus drawing appears in Eastman's TMNT Arthobiography. Also Laird said that Mona Lisa was originally going to be a Turtle, but was changed because both he and Eastman at the time agreed that was a female turtle was a bad idea, which seems to imply that Eastman changed his mind when Venus was conceived).
Also, I'd imagine Eastman wanted to focus more on Heavy Metal Magazine.

Tis a shame... they were so happy together.... they had such plans together... what about the log cabin they rented out... and that summer by the lake? Such a tragedy those 2 had to split...

I once asked Berger if, perhaps, Laird and Eastman ever got together once in a while, to his knowledge, like perhaps Kev happened to be in town, maybe had a couple of brews (or some other kind of drink - Pete doesn't hit me as the drinking kind and I don't follow his blog closely enough to see if he's evidenced otherwise), and talk about old times.
His answer?
"No."

UI think they were just burned out. Both having different artistic ideas they just needing to go in 2 different direction. But, it may have been more than that. Looking at Ninjinister's post maybe there is some bad blood. But who knows. Its a shame though they cant get past that. If Mustaine and Metallica can, well Peter and Kevin can too!

God, I thought the Lennon/McCartney split was bad, but at least they tried to be civil to one another after some time had passed. I would love it if there were biographies that shed more light on this subject. Maybe the sort of expose' Murphy will write at some point... :tlol:

In retrospect, guys, I wouldn't say they're entirely uncivil toward one another. Otherwise we wouldn't have things like this:

Being Facebook friends is nice, though pretty meaningless. I'm friends with about 300 people I don't know on Facebook just for Farmville purposes. Plus neither Kevin nor Peter uses Facebook with any degree of regularity. I'll stick to the tried-but-true: Pics or it didn't happen.
I don't think theres bad blood, they always talk about each other in a good way when I've seen them mention each other plus Eastman even congratulated Laird on the sale of the TMNT. They're adults now with families and different responsibilities they just don't have the time. Maybe at one point there was some bad blood but I'm sure they are both over it, that doesn't mean they are going to go out of their way to meet each other, I'm sure if they did they'd act normal with each other.
