...that I'm at least 75% sure I'm not making up. Of course, I still might be, but I don't think so.

Hi all, I'm Rob. I'm an old-school Turtles fan, or at least as old-school as Turtles fans come...born in 1979, watched the boys in green from the get-go, and read everything TMNT that I could get my hands on from that point forward. Had the toys, had the comics, had the VHS tapes, and was as obsessed as any 13-year-old of the era ought to be. Basically, among the fine folks of this forum, I consider myself in good company. :D

My knowledge of Turtledom, though, however well-founded, is not entirely complete. Recently, I had cause to question myself, and went Googling for a congregation of TMNT fandom, which led me to your site, which I've hence spent many hours reading. And so, I must turn to you, who collectively — and this is hard for me to admit — know much more about the subject than I, to confirm something that I'm starting to think I might be crazy for believing.

Going back to the original Turtles cartoon, there's a particular dialog exchange that I remember that for the life of me I can't find an episode for. To the best of my recollection, it goes as follows. Someone has frozen over NYC, and the Turtles are on their way to defeat the villain. Michaelangelo is on the turtlecom with April.

Mikey: Stay cool, April.
April: Stay cool? I've got six sweaters on, and I'm freezing!

For a long while, I thought this exchange appeared in "Take Me to Your Leader", but I recently rewatched the episode, and it's not there. So, please tell me...did I make this up, or does it exist elsewhere?

Thanks in advance for your help, and I look forward to conversing with you in all matters TMNT!

Turtle Power,

Did you try:
Season 5, 'The Ice Creature Cometh'

I don't know for sure, but I went to the TMNT episode list on Wikipedia, searched for 'freeze', and it sounds like it would be your episode.

I just watched that'n to verify (benefit of having all the DVDs transcoded to your hard drive: easy fact checking). That wasn't it.

Hrrm...yup, doesn't look like that was it. Appreciate you taking a crack at it, plus it gave me an excuse to re-watch another episode!

Anyone else have any ideas? Or, alternatively, anyone ready to assert that I've made the whole thing up?

I'm thinking you might have this scenario confused with the Turtle Tips about turning down the heat in Winter. I believe that kid was wearing multiple sweaters.

I also have a similar experience but the episode appears to not exist, theres a (Channel 6?) costume party and the turtles go as themselves and Burne Thompson is all ticked that someone would dress as the turtles, inside the party there was a pirate ship and skeleton pirates start attacking. I've mentioned it here before but everyone but I think ive been told there isn't such episode.

That's "RAPHAEL MEETS HIS MATCH", the only appearance of Mona Lisa. It wasn't a Channel 6 party, but Channel 6 was covering it.

Nice find, thanks! Could be, though I don't consciously recall having seen that Turtle Tip before. Another data point is that I've confirmed there's a very similar line in an old Scooby-Doo Show episode (The Curse of Viking Lake), which I've asked myself if I'm conflating...but that line doesn't have the joke setup — "stay cool" — which is the part I specifically remember about the exchange. The sweaters part I'm not so sure about; I probably got that from one or the other of the Turtle Tip or SDS episode.

So, trying to salvage at least a bit of credence for my memory, is there an episode where one of the guys tells a chilled April to chill? (Or now that I think about it, one where April gets cold at all, since the insulative powers of the yellow jumpsuit seemed pretty unbelievable to me as a kid...)

But, if this thread falls into the ether without any new revelations, then I'll call it a day and go back to trying to find episodes of OTHER cartoons from my childhood. :D

I've been planning on doing a marathon of OT TMNT for years (though I may be too sick of the show to ever watch agaiin afterwards :ohwell: ), so it might as well be now. I'll let ya know if/when I find any such scene or get through the whole series w/o finding it. I'm certain that April was seen shivering somewhere along the line and even wore sweaters/jackets before. So, if this joke exists, I'll find it within the next month.

I'm late to the party on this one, but April (along with the whole Channel 6 crew and city of NY) gets chilled in "Take Me to Your Leader" when Shredder buries the city in a massive snow storm. I don't believe anybody makes "stay cool" jokes however.

EDIT:

Now I think of another thing. It must be the only (or one of few) episodes where April and/or Irma apear, but never meet the TMNT or even contact them.

If Mike tells April to keep cool, that implies contact.

That is pretty funny, since there's the whole "April needs to defrost her turtlecom to contact the turtles" subplot. This thread is abruptly dropped and never again referenced once Irma unknowingly destroys the turtlecom by throwing it in the fire. None of it really mattered, though, since the turtles found the location of the Shredder's machine and saved the city anyway. Any effort to rescue April and Irma would have just delayed their efforts to save the city. I guess the writers needed an excuse to give all the voice actors some work, eh?

Oh. I wasn't aware he was referring to the ep mentioned in the message he quoted. Since he included the 'Whoops! Wrong ep' part of that message as well, I figured he was referring to the scenario this thread is attempting to find.

I liked that idea. They don't need to save April and Irma again.

Just some random kid.

He must have been a member of the "Ninja Turtles Fan Club" that Zack started up. Kinda weird how many people the TMNT let come into their lair.

Come to think of it, the Foot Clan was able to find the lair no less than THREE times! First was Baxter Stockman and his "Super Mouser" rig, then the Metalhead robot (with video capacity you'd think Krang could have tracked the location), and finally Lotus Blossum with Bebop, Rocksteady, and Foot Soldiers in tow. How did those turtles manage to never have to relocate?

Bebop & Rocksteady weren't with her. You could either be confusing it with "THE CATWOMAN FROM CHANNEL SIX" where B&R accidentally wander in or Turtles Forever, where B&R are seen sniffing out the BttS lair with the same "scent analyzer" Lotus Blossom used.

Dang, I forgot all about that encounter in Catwoman from Channel Six. That one was explained away since Bebop&Rocksteady didn't remember how they got there so Shredder couldn't track the way back.

I thought that in Beware the Lotus Blossom, she had Bebop carrying the Scent Analyzer, but that's probably just my confusion with Turtles Forever (what a great homage that moment was, eh?). I'm guessing Lotus still brought Foot Soldiers though, right? I'll take your word for it since you have been on an insane TMNT marathon kick!

Yeah, it was just Lotus and the Foot Soldiers.

Lotus knew the location of the Turtles lair, but since she wasn't a villain anymore at the end of the ep, it didn't matter.

Mikey: Stay cool, April.
April: Stay cool? I've got six sweaters on, and I'm freezing!
I'm in the middle of Season 6 right now, and I've heard the term "stay cool" being used as a pun a couple times before, but none involved April or the mentioned reply. However, I just watched "DONATELLO TRASHES SLASH" where flash Slash-freezes The Turtles, and April has to blow-dry them free. She jokes "keep cool", but there's no similarly corny reply.
I also have a similar experience but the episode appears to not exist, theres a (Channel 6?) costume party and the turtles go as themselves and Burne Thompson is all ticked that someone would dress as the turtles, inside the party there was a pirate ship and skeleton pirates start attacking. More on this: there was a Channel 6 Halloween party in "SUPER IRMA". Just like in "RAPHAEL MEETS HIS MATCH", Vernon mocks The Turtles lousy 'costumes', but Burne wins the Channel 6 Halloween party 'best costume' award with his Teenage Mutant Ninja Aardvark costume. As for skeleton pirates, that never happened in the OT (I'm 99.8% certain). But, the pirate 'sub' carried Captain Filch and his mutant anemone slaves. So, you've confused at least two eps in your memory there. I'll let you know if I come across anything else similar to your scenario.

And Return of the Shredder? Or was it in April's flat when Baxter Stockman kidnapped Splinter (can't recall)?

That was Baxter's 'super mouser rig' Winters just mentioned. Technically, he only called it "the ultimate rat-catching machine" though.

I just watched "Wrath Of The Rat King" and thought it was odd that he seemed to know exactly where the turtles lair was. I was thinking, how long has he known where they lived?

Who's the kid with Michaelangelo?
I THINK it's SUPPOSED to be Zach, the "Fifth Turtle", becasue he's wearing Zach' Turtle get-up, but t=his hair-color is all wrong. Still, Michealangelo CALLED him "Zach", so THAT's what I'M going by.

PLUS which, when I was having my OT TMNT Toon-watching marathon with my home-recorded VHS tapes looking for the different themes for my home-recorded "Fave Toon Opening Theme" "music video", I rans across this same Turtles Tips thing, so THAT's why I'M guessing that it IS a (rather off) Zach.
