The custom itself isn't half bad, but it is in the wrong section of the forum :tlol:

Really? I thought it looked pretty damn cool! Its nice and clean with a well textured paint job on the plastron. Neato.

I guess I am just spoiled because I have seen some professionally done Slash jobs (not talking about turtle on turtle art/fics, either :tlol: ).

That's pretty good for a first custom. The paint is especially accomplished. The sculpting on the rear shell could do with a little smoothing, but other than that it's a great attempt.

I completely agree, because i dont have a work station i just do it on the kitchen tabel i have to kind of move things quickly if i was to get stuff done, also i used mighty puddy, and i dont know know if youve ever tried it but it has the consistancy of semi-dried gum it very hard to smooth. Had i been able to take some time i could have done it but i got antsy. Thanks!

Pretty cool Slash, I like the additions you made to the back shell, and I agree with Powder about the quality of the plastron's paint job.

Hey, it takes practice... If you're serious about customizing, I recommend using Aves Studio's Apoxie Sculpt, which is about the best sculpting compound I've ever used, and Kneadatite (available from Games Workshop as "Green Stuff"), which is trickier to use but semi-flexible.

But most of all, practice. I've been doing this for years and I still learn new stuff with every custom.

I mean what I'm about to say sincerely, although I know it will probably sound like I'm being a jerk. I apologize in advance for that.

Don't ever give the excuse, "if I had more time" on a piece of art. And, yes, custom figures are art. If it's a personal project, like custom figures, you have all the time in the world.

The exception is if somebody is paying you for the custom and has set a deadline for you. But, otherwise, feel free to take as long as you need to to make it the absolute best that you can. I have customs sitting in a box that I've been "working on" for over 5 years, because it's just not the right time to finish them, yet. And it may not be for another 5 years. But that's okay, because they'll be done when I decide to finish them.

It's okay if your early stuff doesn't look "professionally made," or whatever. As long as you're putting the most you can into it, you'll be satisfied with what you've got - And that's something to keep in mind. You're not making customs for anybody else. You're making them for yourself (or your client, who is paying you because s/he likes YOUR work, and wants something in YOUR style).

But most of all, practice. I've been doing this for years and I still learn new stuff with every custom.

This is 100% true. I've been customizing figures for 15 years, and I'm always learning new things and coming up with new techniques. For example, one of the customs I'm working on is Ace Duck, and I'm doing things with him I have never thought to do with any other figure, ever. And I wouldn't have come up with these ideas if not for things I learned from other customs.

I think your Slash is a hell of a first attempt at a custom. There's a bit of touching up here and there that it could use, but it's a REALLY strong start. Keep it up! I can't wait to see how far you can go. :D
