The title says it all! Since we know nothing of the future regarding the further adventures of the Turtles in print, let us share what we would like to see when someone picks up the license.

Just some topics to get us started:
-What direction would you prefer the series to go?
-Color/Black & White?
-Keep continuity/reboot from the beginning?
-Red bandanas/colored bandanas?

Feel free to share whatever you think would be awesome in a new Turtle book.

Exactly what I'd want from a new series is something I haven't spent as much time pondering as I probably should.

I've been reading a lot of Mirage, lately. And I've been reading a lot of Archie, lately. I love both the original Mirage stuff equally with the Fred Wolf-inspired stuff and, Turtle Forever aside, I've been going through withdrawls of the latter for many years, now.

I think, ideally, I'd enjoy a fresh Turtles series that married the two universes; a series that could use the Fred Wolf/Archie characters but to perhaps more sophisticated effect. It doesn't have to be dark, edgy and ultra-violent like the Mirage series, nor does it have to be braindead like the Fred Wolf cartoon. A balance. It's possible.

There are lots of characters and story elements within the various TMNT universes I adore on equal ground and I'd think that a fresh, new ongoing series would be the perfect opportunity to unite those concepts instead of keeping them segregated as they have been since forever.

You can have Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady, AND their comical elements, but without devolving into inane paint-by-numbers plots, slapstick gags and general oafish ineptitude and ineffectuality. A good writer can take those characters and make them work without losing sight of their fundamentals.


So I guess in short is that I'd like to see a new continuity that isn't afraid to dip into every aspect of the TMNT's rich backlog of characters and situations. None of that, "You can't use Slash! He wasn't in the Mirage comics!" stuff. Let everyone and everything be fair game.

First of all I'll say it has to be in full color as that's what'll help sell the book.

I'd have to go with all red bandanas as the different colors always seemed too Power Rangerish to me. However, in reality, Ninjas wore black so they can be hidden in the shadows. It makes me wonder then why the TMNT wore red which is probably one of the most eyecatching colors. You would think they wouldn't want to draw attention to themselves.

Rebooting could be okay but it should be done from a different perspective to make it interesting and seem new.

I know color helps books sell, but I personally prefer love B/W comics so that'd be neat to see. Frank Fosco's stark contrasts of black & white were stunning to me when I first picked up the image books & I would love to see that look continue (particularly in a book like the one I mention below).

This is one of two ideas that would be my ideal TMNT comic. The other being one that was really close to the real ninjas. Something darker then anything we've ever had (moreso in animation style then content) where we mostly saw the turtles in shadows. Alot of the beliefs, weapons, & actions that the turtles did in previous versions contradicted the "ninja" aspect of it all. They often mixed up samurai codes with ninja codes (if there are such things). Something like Usagi Yojimbo in the sense that everything is culturally & historically accurate (if you've ever read UY you'd know what I mean, Stan Sakai researches everything before he puts it in print.). Turtles with black bandanas (if any at all that is... they look neat without em!), maybe with a clan symbol on them somewhere. Just something very seriously ninja by definition.

Another take, based on that, would be something entirely different (at least in regards to time & place). Imagine the turtles if they had been born in feudal japan, and raised as legit ninjas. Assassins. Imagine them as the samurai in TMNT 3 saw them, demons or perhaps even gods who acted as soldiers of karma. I personally think that would be super bad-ass. Or of course you could mesh that backstory with that of the 2K3 show which had the utroms land in japan. The utroms could have mutated them then & there & maybe some of them (as humans in exosuits) could help them assimilate into the local villages over time. I would love that sh*t. Granted, I'm big on samurai/ninja stuff & old japanese culture so maybe I'm the only one who thinks that'd be boss.

I would like to see a new direction as much as i have enjoyed the mirage story line - something fresh would be nice, and i do like the turtles in color but they must wear the red bandannas.

id just be happy with a continuity that doesn't leave us hanging in the middle of an arc or make us wait literally a year in between each issue

I'm fairly easily pleased, and I do enjoy both Archie and Mirage/Image (although I do lean more towards Mirage I must say) so I would be happy with an mix between the two, as Spengs said. But I also wouldn't mind something completely new. I'm open to anything, I just hope that its not too 'kiddy'.

If we do (and I highly doubt this) end up with Mirage universe continuations - i'd hope to hell that they would get some of the original crew (or even Tales crews) to work on it. Complete newbies to the material would just feel wrong to me. I'd much rather see a new team do a new take on the TMNT.

What Powder be saying sounds pretty cool, and would be great for, I dunno, mini series - elseworlds type issues, but would it really be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? I dunno. All I can say is - i'm up for anything. Just not too childish.

I'm torn about how I'd like to see the Turtles' continuing adventures (or lack thereof). Part of me would really like to see someone get Pet and Kevin's "blessing" on a new comic project and either A.) Take the Turtles back to their roots with a new beginning or B.) Pick up where Pete left off and keep the old continuity intact.

The original Turtles have always been a different beast that the other iterations, and it is a version I much prefer. However, if someone were to create a series that started off like Archie's did and veered off into it's own territory that would be cool too, granted it managed to stray over into darker waters rather than stay all sunshine and rainbows.

As far as the bandanas go, keep the red or go black. I've always wondered why the guys didn't use black, either.

Start a new story, visual style and storytelling like Zulli's turtles.

I'd like to see a new TMNT "reboot" comic that sort of sets up shop at a relatively accessible point early into the existing Mirage TMNT's universe (that doesn't necessarily contradict anything that came later but isn't beholden to it either), is in vibrant cutting-edge color, and redefines the wheel of "martial arts action comics" with killer layouts and breakneck pacing.

But then... what do I know? :)
