How do you feel that the comics are dead for the first time since 2001?

Since the comics came back in 2001 with Volume 4, the comics continues for nearly a decade until Tales ended in May 2010.

So we had almost a decade worth of new comics before the next, "dead period."

How do you feel now? Are you glad about a hiatus for the next couple of years, or are you disappointed you have nothing new to read for the forseeable future?

As much as I love turtles I never really went out of my way to read any of the new issues. I would let them collect in my bin for like 6 months and then go pick them up and read them all at once. I really only bought them out of obligation so I could eventually have a complete collection.

I'm not glad they're finished but I'm not sad about it either. I like story arcs and the series has always had a problem with those. Save for a few story arcs the turtles has mostly been disjointed and the only story arc based comic we had was being produced at a snails pace. Tales was nice but it lacked focus. It was random stories made to fill in gaps that weren't always necessary for stories written 10-15 years prior.

I was really mad initially that the Mirage age had ended but I'm not sure how much longer they could have went. None of the stories were really blowing me away, enjoyable but not engaging. With Moon Knight I was excited to read the next issue or Ultimate X-men. Turtles didn't quite give me that. Mainly due to Tales having little continuation and Volume 4 having year long gaps between issues.

It would bother me less if we were getting more news about the new show, the new movie, and any possible comic deals. There probably isn't much to report on right now, though.

I'm okay with it since I still have a lot of old issues I've yet to read, if nothing pops up by 2013 though - hoo boy, I'll miss my grown-up Turtles indeed.

Seriously, though, I'm at least glad we got Tales #69 to send the series off right, Dan Berger's personal love letter to fans!.

I have to agree with Spitfire with the lack of focus with Tales of the TMNT, I understand that it was suppose to be random stories. But I liked comics that had focus.

And It seems like Vol 4 is never going to be finished. :/

In general, I liked seeing the turtles older and getting a break from the TV Series every once in awhile.

It's just a shame that it's dead. (again.) But I'm determined to finish my collection one day once I have the money to spend. P:

So for now that only thing I'm looking forward to is the New TV series, Movie, and so on.
Hopeing that wont be a dissapointment, I'm staying optimistic about it.

I'm not too upset, personally.

The Mirage comics had petered out into a serious rut. Volume 4 was never going to go anywhere ever again and would stew in "hiatus" state forever.

Meanwhile, Tales had pretty much reached the limitations of its anthology medium. No ongoing storylines meant little reader dedication because there was no suspense to bring the audience back every month. By the time they decided to go with an ongoing serial (Gang Wars), it was too late.

The decision not to make collections available in book stores neutered any chance of interested parties outside of hardcore fans ever finding the comics and the dwindling sales were a self-fulfilling prophecy.


The book was done even before Mirage turned in the keys. I'm sorry.


Right now, I'm not really grieving. I know that some day we WILL get a new comic and it will be within the next couple of years, to be certain. not that long a wait. The mystery of just what it WILL be has me more excited than I would be if the keys were still with Mirage and I knew I'd be getting the same ole, same old.

I'm not really sweating it. The Mirage universe had reached its breaking point and is done. Comics are a guarantee in the future and it'll be entertaining and exciting to see just how they're going to turn out and how different they might be.

It doesn't really bother me at all i was never able to read them much anyway i read the ones i could get my hands on. My local comic shop never really stocked them. and the one i have got didn't really hold my interest. Just have to wait to see what happens comic wise in 2012.

I agree with Spengs, in that Tales was getting a bit, I dunno - I still really enjoyed it, but I needed more story arcs. Especially after vol 4 went on hiatus. The thing i'll miss most is the Mirage team working on the issues. But I am really looking forward to seing what we will be getting in the future...

The hiatus of volume 4 is killing me. This is to me contains the most interesting stories since their inception.

Eh, I personally never really got into Volume 4, really. I did read it, but it didn't interest me too much (and neither did the new Tales, though I did think it had better writing). Quite honestly, Volume 1 (as well as the original Tales and the one-shots that each Turtle got) was the perfect masterpiece with a clear-cut beginning and end. I really like how everything came full circle in that, and I don't really feel like anything more needed to be done. I still enjoy the stuff that came after that, but nowhere near as much, so I can't say that I'm sad about it, but I'm not necessarily happy, either. I guess I'm mostly indifferent. Besides, TMNT doesn't feel the same with only one of the co-creators at the helm... just my opinion.

I pretty much agree with everyone that says they either don't care or are indifferent. Tales was an ok TMNT-fix, but it really wasn't at the top of my weekly stack. And to be honest, I really wasn't digging vol. 4. I liked the first 10 issues, but after that, I really got turned off by Jim Lawson's art and I didn't like the direction Pete was taking the book.
So here's hoping the next TMNT comic that comes out is the best TMNT-comic stuff we've seen in years!
