I just got back from the mall and took a turn in Hot Topic. Besides noticing that it all went female emo since I was a teenager, I noticed that they had quite a few TMNT things. There was a TMNT OT shirt and 4 little backpacks of all the boyz. I would have gotten a Raphie for myself if I'd had any money.
The point is, does anybody think this signifies a shift in popular perception, especially with teens? I thought it was an interesting sign anyway.

They've had OT Turtles stuff for a long time, this is nothing new. Sure its new merch, but its not a new trend. "Liking" the turtles is seen to be a way of seeming alternative and retro-cool. Its not, but thats how they market and make bank on it.
So, no, not a signification of popular perception, expecially not in a Hot Topic store. I there's the possibility to see more of a popularity shift when you see Turtles stuff at Wal Mart, Target, Kohls and Old Navy. Which is most likely them trying to cash in on what's "Trendy."
Its all convoluted ********, but nothing new. Its been like this for years.

Oh, I'd imagine you're going to Hot Topic just enough if you weren't aware.

Yeah this isnt news. They had had all that CRAP in there for years. So all the kids that dont even know what the turtles are can go buy a shirt and think they are cool and retro. Without even know what they are buying.

I remember in the early 2000's they had alot of iller TMNT shirts. For instance, a neon green one with the art from the arcade game (turtles on skateboards bustin' through a brick wall). I suppose thats kinda due to the fact that since viacom came in the picture they're doing that whole cut & paste/photoshop butchery bullsh!t. Alot of the new designs have potential but the fact that they put old heads (crooked!) on new bodies screws em up.

Some 18/19-year-old college freshman saw me wearing the Woot Shirt that your sig is based off of the other day and asked, "So what's that shirt supposed to symbolize?"
LOL

Wow, that just shows it. On the same note, my GF was at work when a young man comes up to her register. He must have been ATLEAST 25. He is wearing that Woot shirt and she said ''Awesome shirt.'' ''My BF loves the Tmnt.''
His response was ''Tmnt?''
How dare people buy shirts of things they used to like and enjoy as kids don't they know turtle shirts are only for hardcore fans who post on tmnt forums and have read all the mirage comics and seen all the episodes those posers

I go to Hot Topic whenever I go to the Tacoma Mall and even have a Hot Topic discount card. Over the years I've gotten tons of TMNT stuff from there. From slippers to pajama bottoms to even a snuggie. ATM they have the backpacks, some shirts, and even water bottles. Just go to their official site to see what they currently have available.

You can also get TMNT shirts at Wal-Mart (I saw a new one a week ago but there wasn't one in my size. I DID get a girl's TMNT pajama set in January tho plus the Turtley Awesome shirt that's available for adults) and Target (amongst all the other retro shirts).

Coolness. I'll check it out. I saw they had a Betty White shirt and I adore her. I watch The Golden Girls whenever I eat. So I'm not a Betty White poser. hehe
I sometimes feel like we're too hard on the posers. They're the ones who'll make the next movie successful. At least if they recognize the brand and franchise, it will keep it alive. Think about that.

Yep. They will buy all the crap they can and we will keep getting more crap for years to come.
