"TMNT vs. Spawn"

You can grab a .PDF of this HERE (http://www.thegreenlanterncorps.com/tvs.pdf).

This is a five page comic drawn by Frank Fosco, colored by Sabacooza, and lettered by Adam O. Pruett.

To preface this a little bit... this was what Frank drew in early 1996 to show to Erik Larsen to win the assignment of drawing TMNT Volume 3. He hadn't quite finalized the "look" he wanted to for the TMNT themselves that we would more associate with the Fosco TMNT now.

This isn't a part of the Image TMNT finisher or anything that anyone is really looking to publish (officially or unofficially) in any form... this is just an offering to the fans out there. Basically, when I bought a bunch of Frank's original art pages off of him a while back he was nice enough to include a very early, rough pencilled look at these pages with them that virtually no one had seen before... suffice to say, I saw them and I thought they would definitely be worth bringing to life and showing you guys. So here they are.

Wow, this is actually pretty cool. Once again I also have to give props on the coloring, that is really well done.

Too bad this isn't canon.

Friggin' awsome. Props to Sab, of course.

I would so love for the turtles to be drawn by Fosco forever & ever.

Bad. ASS!!!!!!!

Man, this should become an officially sanctioned crossover event like the old Batman/Spawn, Spider-Man/Spawn crossovers back in the '90's.

It's kind of funny, if you look back in the Vol. 3 lettercol you can find letters from me whining about wanting to see Spawn in the TMNT comics... and yet all along, here was this 5 page mini-story from Frank that did just that.

As a Spawn fan from Day One who owns every issue of the comic (and is still, for reasons beyond me, still following it)...

That was great. Five pages just wasn't enough.

Sabacooza deserves some serious credit, too, as those colors are amazing.

Wow, that is some great stuff! And them colours - sheesh Sabacooza, you friggin' rock. Am I the only one that is reminded of Jack Kirby's TMNT sketch when I see this? (Well, pages two and four.) Thanks for sharing this - to you, Andrew, and to Frank Fosco also. Any chance of seeing the orginal black and white version?

Thanks goes to Andrew for posting it and thanks to all for the comments.

Oddly enough Just as Frank sent over these pages for me to color, I received a script for a TMNT Spawn comic book written by two friends of mine. The timing was pretty strange. The script was actually pretty good and I sent it off to Frank to have a look at it when he's able to.

While I know OF Spawn, I've never read a Spawn comic and have no idea what the character is like, aside from knowing the comics are very violent.

If there is a second part, I hope its not Spawn chopping up the Turtles into tiny bits.

Hate to say it, but that's probably exactly what would happen (or him just nuking them with hellpower). So a continuation of the above might be the kind of thing that's like... "Be careful what you wish for."

Super bad ass it's my favorite thing shared so far.
I used to be a huge Spawn fan, he was top dog around 94-95 for me and took place of my turtle fandom.
I should have spent more money on tmnt figures from around that time and less on spawn figures lol.

The art and colors are really cool. Too bad it's just five pages...

Here's the original B&Ws. Keep in mind these were cleaned up and refined by Frank (and even Adam, our letterer, I believe) before they went to Courtland/Sabacooza.

Great stuff.

He hadn't quite finalized the "look" he wanted to for the TMNT themselves that we would more associate with the Fosco TMNT now.

I kinda like it, definitively Fosco but with a slight skew. It's also interesting that he took some influence from the movies in terms of dressing the turtles with Don's single thick belt strap and Leo's scabbards arranged in an X shape etc. Even the writing seems slightly movie influenced which is something I always thought about the early Image issues.

It's kind of funny, if you look back in the Vol. 3 lettercol you can find letters from me whining about wanting to see Spawn in the TMNT comics...and yet all along, here was this 5 page mini-story from Frank that did just that.

If I remember right there were quite a few advocates for a Spawn guest spot. Of course there were a few against it too. I would've gotten a kick out of it but it didn't see it as a possibilty. It seemed apparent rather quickly they were only going to interact with Erik Larsen's little corner of the Imageverse. Weird to know that this existed back then.

Ah, please don't say the turtles are gonna get "maimed and embarrassed!"

I'm assuming/hoping the t's would put up a better fight than most would expect to and reach some kind of stalemate or in true comic book crossover tradition they team up fashion they team up against a mutual foe.

Question though Andrew and co, is it okay to share this around other boards or link to this thread or is this something you'd prefer put out there yourselves?

It seemed apparent rather quickly they were only going to interact with Erik Larsen's little corner of the Imageverse.

Which seemed too bad to me. It would have been neat, for example, to see some involvement or presence from Tony Twist from Spawn in all the mafia stuff with Puzorelli.

I'm assuming/hoping the t's would put up a better fight than most would expect to and reach some kind of stalemate or in true comic book crossover tradition they team up fashion they team up against a mutual foe.

I think the conclusion would fall under, "not what you'd expect."

You know... it would be nice to see Frank Fosco become a member of this forum and start posting his own work...

Or maybe Andrew and Frank are the same person? It makes sense if you think about it. http://www.brainybetty.com/images/Icons/EmotionIcons/PENSIVE.gif

I'm chuckling because I know Frank is reading this right now, going, "Ehhh..."

I've urged him to join the forum before, though. Maybe if enough people holler at him he'll join up. :)

Well... it is finished. There was never, ever intended to be any more than those 5 pages you see here.

That said, as I mentioned earlier I did whisper in Frank's ear a little bit and there might just be a continuation/completion of it yet.

I think the conclusion would fall under, "not what you'd expect."

So the turtles defeat Spawn?

Spawn kills the turtles, they go to gell and come back a hellspawns?

Mike starts doing some of his stand up material and the t´s make a strategic retreat while Simmons is kealing over laughing?
