Ninjaturtles.com updated again, with this teaser:

Is the series starting next year?

It doesn't say new TMNT in 2011. It could be the 2k3 series in reruns they are talking about. It'd be nice if it was the new series, but with as little talk as there has been I'd be surprised.

Nick already aired the, "Turtles Forever" movie a few times. The 2k3 series hasn't started there yet, but I doubt they'll wait much longer to start it.

Well... it's progress.

And it's the first "original" piece of TMNT related art to come out of the Nick stable, if I'm not mistaken!

Yeah I saw that about 30 minutes ago and was like :???:

I don't mind a new TMNT cartoon at all but I'd prefer that it wouldn't come before 2015 or 2016, the 2k3 series is still a bit fresh in memory so it's better to let the vast majority of the generation that watched that show to grow up and to allow the franchise to take a break and recharge its batteries so people won't get sick of it.

Considering the new live-action movie reboot is coming in 2012, it makes sense for the new cartoon to start around the same time.

I think it would be better for them to wait a couple more years to release the reboot movie but hey there's nothing I can do about it so better rest my case here, I'm getting more TMNT afterall, I shouldn't whine :P

Hmmm...interesting but still to vague to interpret. Still a "wait and see" kind of thing with them and TMNT. Reairing Turtles Forever is fine and all but we need to know some kind of idea for their original TMNT plan sometime soon.

It seems to me 2k3 won't premier until 2011 which sucks, I think they are going to be treating it like a new show, they did the same with Fantastic Four:WGHs, counting not a lot of people saw 2k3 like with F4 they may get away with it..

Its good that 2k3 will finally get the spotlight it deserved however its old content for all of us and I have a feeling that since they are treating the 2k3 show like a new one it means the real new show won't be out in 2012 but will be delayed a year or so..

That has to be the worst graphics display I have ever seen. The manhole cover is like covering most of the left leg of that sign. Also the weapons look like they got ran over by a steam roller.

The animated weapons there is definitely new art and not based on any 2k3 production art at all.

Also, Mike has nunchucks. No grappling hook. :)

I'd be happy with heavy re-runs of the 2k series....theres still episodes I've never managed to catch....including the Xmas episode based on the old Mikey comic.

If they started production right after they got the rights in...summer 2009, they would have already 2 full years for the production of the first season of the new show.

A Fall 2011 debut for the new show is very possible.

I don't see why they wouldn't have started production the moment they got the rights, heck thats why they announced the new cartoon would be out in 2012. 2011 will definitely be interesting, its when stuff will begin leaking about the new movie and show.

Well, there's this whole "pre-production" thing that has to happen first, that they're just now emerging from. But with all their ducks in a row I bet they can crank something out posthaste.

Agreed, they had to figure out what the hell they wanted to do with this massive property they had acquired, followed by putting a crew together to begins designs, writers to put in a room and brainstorm story ideas, etc.

I hope that Alex D. dude posts here more often with updates!

I think it isn't the 2k3 series in reruns either. Why?

Well why didn't they use the 2k3 logo and show the generic stock images/art of the 2k3 Turtles we're so used to seeing?

Those weapons there are brand new art and not based on any existing material. If this is just the 2k3 series airing on Nick, it sure doesn't seem like it.

I have a feeling it's the new show and that they're airing it earlier than expected. I think 2012 was probably an estimation of when they'd air it, but they've decided to do it early. That's fine by me, but it depends on when they air it. Since I have a job prospect in the works, I may not be able to see it at all.

No, a fresh start for a new generation of kids makes the most sense.

This series is probably going to be a remake of the original series anyway, using the old toon characters.

Honestly, what's left to do with the 2k3 series?

The Shredder was destroyed, we know of what happens in the future, almost everything seemed resolved. What's left?

On topic of this, I'm not sure what to make of this. I'll just have to wait and see.

I think its the re-runs. They haven't shown these yet and a lot of the Nick audience hasn't seen these as well. To be honest, a LOT of people have missed out on the 2K3 series, i say run it and expose it to as many people as possible because to me nothing will beat this series.

Well, he did have this to say on Twitter (http://twitter.com/AlexDeligiannis) today:

"Can't believe my 3 week hiatus comes to an end today. Just got the call confirming that I start on the TMNT pilot monday morning."

I'm not sure how long it takes to produce a full season of a modern cartoon, but we could see something in 2011 besides the 2k3 series. I dunno. I'm just glad that things are starting to move. I was getting tired of all the silence.

Yeah, what's the turn around time for CGI? I remember hearing that the turn around time for The Simpsons was 2 years. That was a long time ago and obviously traditional animation, which is an entirely different organism.

It's hard to tell if they're still going with CGI, though. Alex Deligiannis worked on TUFF Puppy and Fairly Odd Parents and those aren't CGI.

So sadly, it looks like CG will be used more and more for comic book cartoons.

Is Bruce Timm working as an artist for the show or is he a producer or director? Alex Deligiannis is an artist who's resume is all in traditional animation; end of story. I'd like to think that, until we start seeing imagery that indicates otherwise, we'll be getting a traditionally-animated show considering that a big fan who will start working on the pilot next week is an artist for shows that were traditionally-animated.

The 2007 designs were also originally done by a 2D artist. That's a common practice. Though that doesn't confirm it will be a 3D cartoon it does mean it wont necessarily be a 2D cartoon.

Its been confirmed that the new GL show is CG and so will the new Batman show after BATB finishes its run with S3.

CG has improved so much over the years, by the time these new shows come out in 2012. they are going to look great. I'm expecting the new TMNT show to look as good as the 2007 movie, which IMO looks great. Its not being hopeful either, by 2012 the movie will be 5 years old. Thats a lot of time for them to be able to do movie quality cg of 5 years ago on a tv show. Look at how much improvement the show Reebot got over the years. The difference between each year is very noticeable.

Speaking of Nick and TMNT, what are some of the art styles you would come to expect from a Nickelodeon TMNT show? I've found a few examples of what I would expect to see (beyond Alex Deligiannis's personal work):

No joke? I'm both excited & ticked off at the same time. I'm glad they brought him into it, but why the hell not for Raphael!?

EDIT: I'm so pumped after having just checked his twitter. I guess he could pull off a great Donny.

sdp

I'm the opposite, I'd really want this to be a fresh start no old VAs voicing the turtles, the fact that he's not voicing Raphael and will likely do a different voice which is for the best.

I'd love to see old VAs return but on different roles, like say "evil" turtles could be voiced by previous Turtles VAs, April's parents voiced by a previous April and whatnot, just some examples.

I mentioned it in the other thread but I'm also very certain that each year we'll be getting 20 episode seasons, its the way Nick runs their shows and is even forcing Power Rangers to not air more than 20 episode seasons when that show usually airs around 40 per year.

Alex Deligiannis also tweeted this recently:
Came in to studio for a bit to keep mind occupied. Looking over some storyboard panels for the pilot. Almost like having a new TMNT comic.

Im sure Rob will do great as Donnie. Now they just need to cast Cam Clarke in the show. He and Rob voice characters together (charactes who are best friends) in Back to the Barnyard.

This will be the 2nd show Rob's returning to. He voiced the same characters in both versions of Biker Mice.

Bringing Cam Clarke back would be a great idea too. Heck, it'd be nice if they could get some 2K3 actors in there too, as well as some entirely new faces (er, voices) to the franchise. Anyone know where Nick's shows are recorded anyway? NY or LA?

The Shredder Wars.

Do we really need to drop new fans into the middle of the Shredder Wars especially now that we have a new cast, new studio, and likely a new art direction?

I'm glad that we're getting a little bit of news here and there to talk about. This constant silence is really boring. I know that, since this is the Internet, we can take tiny nuggets of news, talk about them, and speculate further for several pages until some other nugget hits the Internet.

Well, Alex Deligiannis and Rob Paulson both enjoy what they've worked on so far. Though they can't say much of anything right now, I'm not going to accuse them of being men of bad taste. So, I'm going to assume that the new TMNT will be something that I like.

Whether it'll become my favorite or not is a completely different issue.

Ninja Tiptup
09-26-2010, 03:28 AM
This fits into my ideal concept of a new TMNT cartoon actually. I'd like Donatello to be the wise guy while also being the tech wizard. He kind of was that way in the 2007 movie. Either way Rob Paulsen will make a great Donatello I'm sure.

If they're "stunt casting" with previous TMNT VAs I'd like to see Robbie Rist as Mikey, James Arnold Taylor or Mike Sinterniklaas (but he's in NY so probably not) as Leonardo and Nolan North as Raphael.

And I'd like to see Sam Regal (since he works in LA now), Cam Clarke, Townsand Coleman and if at all possible Barry Gordon voice someone in this new cartoon whether they're the characters they original voiced or not (obviously with Barry and Sam that wouldn't be the case). Likewise, any VA from the old show would be a welcome return just not necessarily as the characters they previously voiced.

Do you guys remember that Cam was possibly going to be Mikey? Maybe now he'll get his chance. Though I could think of much better choices.

Cam as Shredder though? I'm not feel'n it. He could probably pull it off though.

With the news from Rob and Alex, I'm really starting to get excited.

Fall 2012 is indeed fairly late, thats still two years away..I think we were all hoping early 2012 but I kinda feared it might be later since I think they'll plan on airing TMNT2k3 as a "new" show.

As far as direction, I love the OT but I don't want this show to be anything like it. I want to see the OT characters but done in a more serious show unlike the OT. I actually think thats the most likely scenario luckily for me, I don't see it being as comedy focused as the OT but not as serious as the NT. I also find funny how we all assume it'll take elements from the OT, yeah it makes the most sense since its the most popular incarnation but as far as we know it could not use any of its characters.

I'm with Tiptup, I like the idea of Donatello being a bit of a smart-aleck due to how smart he is, and we all know Paulsen is awesome at smart-aleck.

And I'm fully with him on Robbie Rist for Mikey too, I'd love to hear him try to be a tad more serious with the role while still delivering the funny like he did in the movies. I think he has the skills to do it now, based on his role in Naruto.

If they're "stunt casting" with previous TMNT VAs I'd like to see Robbie Rist as Mikey, James Arnold Taylor or Mike Sinterniklaas (but he's in NY so probably not) as Leonardo and Nolan North as Raphael.

Mike Sinterniklaas has moved recently to L.A. too. He still has his studio in NYC, but he has one now in L.A. as well.

I'd love for him to keep his role as Leo's voice. Nothing would make me happier.

I'm Facebook Friends with Rob now. (Or he's on my Friend's List, anyway.) I might just pop over there in a day or two and ask him about stuff. Him voicing Donnie DOES sound good, though. Mixes stuff UP just a bit that way.:twink::tlol:

Though DONNIE being the smart-aleck instead of Raph does NOT sit well with me. That's just EXACTLY why Raph wasn't ny FAVE of the four during the OT's run; Leo was, sometimes tied with Donnie.

Still, as you guys say, he might not be able to tell me (us) much right now, but we'll see.

STILL not real thrilled about Nick wanting to reprise the OT, though. Personally, I think that they should have to start totally from scratch again, like 4Kids did with the 2K3 Toon. But I'll be happy with it if they do the following:

Ditch the initial belt-buckle and color-coordinated wristbands and pads;
NOT revive the "we're a cartoon series, and we know it, so we're gonna talk to the audience at times" (break the fourth wall, that is) schtick. That's mildly amusing at first, but gets IRRITATING after awhile!;
Have sensible vehicles (like the Battle-shell)
Have Donnie's inventions 'n' stuff be sensible and NOT outlandish and crazy, too;
LIMIT the number of mutants in the show. Honestly, to me, Master Splinter and the boys should be the ONLY ones IN the new show. Bebop and Rocksteady shouls be despensed with. Shredder, okay; more mutants? Uh...no;
NO; I repeat, NO DREGG AND COMPANY!!!:tmad::tmad::tmad:
Also, no visitors from outer space like the Polarisoid; etc. Utroms would be okay.
And above all, MAKE SHREDDER HUMAN! I mean, the Utrom Shredder was okay for the 2K3 Toon, but he should be human in the NEW series. Seriously;
Stuck to Splinter's true origins as Master Yoshi's pet rat, and NOT as Yoshi himself;
Same for April. Make her like she is in the 2K3 Toon, and NOT a reporter;
Make Casey like he is in the comics AND the 2K3 Series, and NOT some Clint Eastwood wanna-be!;
Karai, Hun and the Purple Dragons coming back to the new series would be okay, too;
Give them a REALL cool Lair, and let them KEEP it, and NOT let it get destroyed by some villian or other.
Make the boys ACT like actual ninjas, and keep their existance a secret from the public at large, EXCEPT for April and Casey (DUH!)! In OTHER words, be SECRET about it like they did in the 2K3 series! I mean, they ARE NINJAS, after all!

And I think that that's it for now. NOT that I think that they'll listen to me, but it's worth a shot, anyway.:twink:

Every carnation brings something new, they are usually NOT identical. If you like 2k3 go and WATCH THAT, if you liked the OT go watch that, just don't be COMPARING crud or you will most likely NOT like it, GO into it with a NEW mind and DON'T think anything of it TILL you WATCH it.

^^ This, to a varying degree. I don't watch 2k3 for goofy slapstick and breaking the fourth wall kind of humor, and I don't watch the OT for the sinister looking Shredder and the awesome fight scenes. I don't have high hopes for this show at all to be honest. I'm not gonna expect anything, that way I'll be pleasantly surprised either way.

The Shredder Wars.

That could have been a cool second movie.... but like... naww..... Ch'Rell was dealt with nicely in Turtles Forever... and having 3 Shredders fight it out just doesn't compare to having Shredder try to kill the Mirage TMNT to wipe out every Turtle in existence. Man, even now, had Ch'Rell succeded, not even the upcoming NickTMNT would have existed. LOL

Has anyone asked Stan if he would allow Usagi to meet up with the Turtles again should Nick wish to use him?

Here's what Stan said when I asked him, I also had asked him about Space Usagi from TMNT: FF season 2:

Hi Dan,

Now that Nick has the Turtles, it makes for a very different relationship. I would probably refer this to my licensing agent and the option holders to handle this. Previously, business relationships were pretty much just a nod and a wink--that is, very informal--between Mirage and myself.

I do have the script and character designs for Space Usagi in Fast Forward. I also have unused character designs from The Real World, in which Leonardo goes to Usagi's world. I did get permission from 4Kids to post them a while ago. I will probably do so when I have the time.

I'm confident that Rob is more than talented enough to provide a voice and tone for Donatello that's appropriate to his general character thoughout the various incarnations of TMNT.

Going back to "smart mouth" Donatello theories, though, I wouldn't mind it if they mixed Donatello's general nerdiness with how Donatello was depicted in the first TMNT movie. In fact, I wouldn't mind if all the Turtles were like that to various degrees. Most tight-knit groups of friends, especially teenagers, are just that.

Donatello voiced by Rob Paulsen? Epic Win. It would have been cooler if he voiced Raphael but I'm open to this. I wonder how many former turtle voices will come on board and voice a character (maybe even another turtle) in this new toon. I would be stoked if Townsend Coleman came back to voice Michelangelo. Heck, maybe he could voice leonardo since in the first episoide recording he and Cam where supposed to switch off after the first read through.

When Viacom bought the turtles they said a new movie and show in 2012, they never specified when so it could be spring or fall. Now Nick is promising TMNT action in 2011, the new show is unlikely or more stuff would have leaked by now and if it IS a new show it wouldn't be until late 2011. The show does seem pretty far along though so I guess it could be possible but still not likely.

My guess is things about the new show will start leaking/revealed a bit before comic con and at comic-con we'll find out the rest and maybe even see a preview. The new movie will also likely be all over comic-con and info on cast and director can't be too far away from now, likely before comic-con. I think 2011 will definitely be filled with turtle news between the new movie/show.

It could be that they confused the new CG show with the 2k3 show premiering along Voltron Force, if its not that then maybe its just a preview, I doubt its the actual show that begins since they haven't done any press at all for the brand new show, they wouldn't just premier it like that, even Power Rangers Samurai is getting a ton of promos since December. I do think the show has been likely in production since they bought the turtles and we know they have VAs so it could be fairly far along by now to premier this year its just odd we haven't heard anything about it.

Alex Deligiannis just posted on twitter that he is watching the full completed pilot of the new show, the information that it will be shown after the Nick awards may prove to be true this is only the pilot but that means more episodes are easily on their way so it could indeed premier by fall 2011 so there is more turtle action coming in 2011.

Kinda hard to believe since we've heard nothing from Nick since the buyout but it did seem to be fairly far in development with VAs and whatnot. Worst case scenario is that this is just a pilot to see if Nick picks up on it but counting they own the turtles I find that hard to believe, I'm sure more episodes are being done as of right now.

It also makes me wonder if Nick never meant to air the 2003 show which is why it hasn't done so yet. They just mostly bought it so 4Kids couldn't keep airing it which I'm sure they still would and they would definitely be running it when the new TMNT movie came out and Nick wanted none of that.

The show is going to be CGI, you heard right.

Also, it's supposedly going to be exactly what you want, very similar to the OT, but with a slightly darker twist.

Not really, all we know is that its CG plans on that may even have changed (though not likely). The OT but darker is just speculation it has never been mentioned by anyone involved. Of course it makes perfect sense the OT is the most popular incarnation of the turtles and cartoons today are not as silly as they were in the 80s so like all modern cartoons it'd be a more serious take.

What I really want to see is more mutants. That was one thing I did miss about the 2k3 series. I really like the OT and how there would be more mutants then just the TMNT. Now I know there are the arguments that the more mutants the less specail the TMNT but I think if handeld correctly it could be really cool. If they use the basis the RPG material did there are a number of different reasons there could be more.

Cowabunga Carl

I love looking at the Palladium book and just toying with ideas for other mutants/creatures. There are a few different ways a character could be mutated. Like one is:

Brought up as an experiment. Trained and educated with
cruel punishments. The character will distrust humans.

Now with something like that for a bases you could use say a Badger as the base animal. The military was funding project that would turn animals into warriors and one of them was a Badger. This creature would be used for tunneling behind the enemy and then attacking leaving the enemy confussed. It could either escape or come across the TMNT durring a training exercise.

I'm just saying that not all the characters have to come from the same mutagen like the did in the OT. You could have a squad of creatures like the above Badger that become a reacuring villain team or allies.

John Pannozzi
01-27-2011, 03:11 PM
So what's your counter argument for how it would be really cool?

Maybe that the Mighty Mutanimals in the Archie TMNT series proved to be fan favorites, and I hasten to add that they were created and developed by the Mirage regulars?

And I find it worth noting that even in the Mirage/Image TMNT continuity that there are other characters besides the four Turtles, Splinter, Leatherhead and Bloodsucker that could be considered mutants, like Complete Carnage and Radical, Lord Komodo's genetically abnormal prisoners/experiments (like Wolver...I mean Mr. Weasel) from vol. 3 and arguably some or all of the members of the Justice Force.

Although, on the other hand, I think it's safe to say that we can all agree that if they ever bombard us with mutants as bland, boring and uninspired as Hot Spot or King Lionheart, then they're taking the mutant thing just a bit too far.

Cowabunga Carl
01-27-2011, 06:36 PM
so who owns the Palladium TMNT stuff now by the way? There was some really awesome things in those books that haven't been used yet. It would be great to see some of that stuff brought into the new toon.

Panda_Kahn_fan
01-27-2011, 08:31 PM
Frankly I find the idea that other mutants cheapens the turtles....stupid. Ok, so there were no other Mutants (besides leatherhead) in the 2003 series and mirage. But there were Aliens, mythical creatures, and anthros from other dimensions, and that's not just as cheap... how?

The idea that just being from the old show and not being 'mirage' somehow makes a character less vaild and serious is ignorant. Mirage turned April into a drawing come to life, and I'm supposed to take it more seriously than the OT? Forget it! It's how ANY character is written, not the media they come from, that will determine if a TMNT incarnation is sucsessful or not. Mirage may be the original version, is not somehow the 'true' version, nor will it ever be.

Spitfire
01-27-2011, 08:38 PM
So what's your counter argument for how it would be really cool?

Mine would be that mutants and other characters that don't just look like normal guys are more interesting as villains. They sell more toys too and face it that's what we're here for. Sure the uniqueness of the turtles seems dialed down a bit when there's other mutations out there that are more powerful then them. I get that but I think it's also silly to limit yourself. You can't make everything an alien either. Genetic experiment, born a mutant, super natural being, from another dimension, so on. There's tons of ways to explain cool looking monsters besides making them mutations like the turtles. If they go that route I can see it working quite well.

Cowabunga Carl
01-27-2011, 08:48 PM
Panda I could not agree more with you about it not mattering what medium a character came from. To me Mirage is the orginial but that doesn't make it better or worce then what came after. Each peice of the vast TMNT univese has had an effect on the others for good or bad in some cases.

I know the new show isn't aimed at a 27 year old fan but I want to be able to enjoy it with my 6 year old nephew. Something we do with both the OT and 2k3. I haven't read the comics with him yet, I'll probably do that when he is 8 or 9.

BubblyShell22
01-28-2011, 07:41 AM
I agree with Spit here. More mutants could be good as both heroes and villains. And, as CC said, there's different ways that mutants can be introduced, not just with the mutagen. I wouldn't mind having some mutants within it.
