Why was Leo denied a fancy weapon in Season 5?

Part of the almost annual "Leo overcomes adversity and self doubt" storyline that the ´03 show had.

The story sets it up that Leo sucks at the Tribunal´s mystic training only for him to manifest the dragon avatar first. Of course for this storytelling technique to work you have to suspend every other "Leo sucks and is consumed with self doubt" story the show did. Even a kid would have worked out by year 5 how things were going to play out.

Thankfuly this only stretched out in a few early Tribunal eps and the lack of a shiny new mystic weapon didn´t seem to hinder him.

Why give out shiny new weapons at all. They all seemed pretty useless at the end of the day, since the other acolytes died and all of the TMNT became friggin dragons.

I always assumed it was because he didn't believe in himself and felt that he was being over shadowed by his brothers. Since he's used to always being the best he sort of threw a hissy fit that he wasn't top student this time. He lost his self confidence and didn't get it back until he found out his spirit animal or whatever was the most powerful, but that was after they got weapons. Besides he used that one guys sword for awhile anyways so he sorta got a weapon.

Yeah, I felt Leo was robbed of having a mystic weapon, but Juto did say he would have powers beyond imagination and then he unleashed his avatar first. I think he did lack self-confidence but not because of his brothers. That's just the way he is. He hates failing at anything and wants to do well to please the Tribunal. After he takes care of that nezumi demon Chikara tells him he did well and he felt better about that.

The Sword of Tengu would've been a decent permanent weapon for Leo. It seemed stronger than his own two.

I always assumed that whoever/whatever gave the turtles/acolytes their weapons, felt that Leonardo did not need a special weapon and that he'd be a better leader without having to rely on a new special weapon. Although I didn't like the new weapons either. I would have rather seen them keep their normal weapons to fight more traditionally at times when they weren't needed. Like Tengu Shredder....I kept hoping he'd challenge the turtles to a battle of martial arts skill with no mystical powers being involved. That could have made that saga end far more epicly than the silly "dragon battle" nonsense.

JackI agree with this. I mean they are turtles not dragons @___@;; Who thought of dragons in the first place? Where do dragons have martial art skill? Its was flying around and jumping dragon Shredder at the end and I hated it. :p

They just wanted to do something different than just Ninja fighting the Demon Shredder since they already played out traditional fights with the Utrom Shredder. As much as we don't like the idea, I would rather they'd try something else then repeat the same thing yet again.

As for Leo not getting a weapon, yeah it makes sense since the Tribunal saw Leo as their prodigal student and him manifesting the dragon first and leading them all into battle time again earned him a high honor.

^^ Remember when Mikey got "powered up" and used the Mystic poewr that he got to fight that rock thing? THAT would have been awesome to see against Tengu Shredder. Instead we got a crappy dragon fight and a manifestation of Yoshi cutting Shredder in half. Honestly though the TMNT were more effective with their normal weapons, why give them new useless ones? Yeah sure they did fight with them and kick ass but their weapons just seemed so out of place.
Ninja fighting against Ch'rell it was never done as well as it could have been IMO.
As for Leo not Getting a weapon, I just figured he was just too damn good to need a new weapon.

I agree with this. The fights of the turtles vs. Shredder were never as well choreographed as the battles between the turtles and Agent Bishop. Like I have said many times before, it seemed like most of the fights showed Shredder punching a turtle once and then that was it, whatever turtle it was, was down for the fight. The best fight between the turtles/Ch'rell Shredder was in "Bad Day". Even the fights with Karai as Shredder were more interesting than the ones against Ch'rell.

Leo beeing too good for any weapons? Ok, now it begins to get a little unrealistic. Noone is too good to use weapons, or without any flaws at all.

Even my ninjutsu-sensei (34 years old) wasnt perfect in all techniques and made mistakes and he trained it since he was 6 years old.

He may be described as one, especially by the fans, but I myself cant see it. And I also am a Leo fan. I only prefer him realistic...as realistic as a fictional character can be of course.
Sure he trains more than the others, but are the others so much worse than him? Or is he so mighty and powerful? I dont think so.
I see him as normal as the others are, too^^
