Wow!! ....I had seen again this chapter and I love this scene where Michelangelo talk about the possible adventures of TMNT at comics....I think its a lovely tribute to origins/roots in the OT!.

It likely is a tribute to the Mirage comics, they just didn't want to put all red bandanas and the Mirage logo as it would confuse kids.

The style of the turtle faces, the color bandannas, and even the use of the logo from the OT says to me that they were going more for meta than for shoutout.
