"Hating kids" and all the "kids today are so blablabla" bullsh*t so many people spew annoy me to no end. I work with kids everyday, some are annoying, some are a bit on the slow side but in general kids rule. End of story.

For me it is not so much the kids, but the parents and how crappy they raise their kids...

Hell is other people. And sometimes those people aren't yet big enough to ride the fun rides.

I voted for the fourth one.
I find bratty kids to be a lot more forgivable than bratty parents.
Kids are...well, kids. You can't really blame them for the things they do. Blame the parents. :)

I don't hate kids at all. Yeah, some of them can be brats, but you have to blame the parents for raising them that way.

Working with kids made me appreciate them a hell of a lot more than I did well, when I was a kid. There are the shy ones that are actually really well spoken and or funny once you get to know them, The clown, the trendsetter, the slow kid, and then the brat, oh how I sometimes want to slap the brat. Most kids are pretty cool, just treat them with respect and don't patronize them and they'll do the same to you. And I agree bratty parents are way worse than the kids. But a lot of the bratty kids i've seen just crave attention that they don't get at home. You know what I really hate though? Mosquitoes. Little bastards.

you cant really say that about all parents some yes they just let there kids do what they want i know a few. But as for my kids my 6 year old was getting into trouble all the time a school throwing rocks and stuff and the teachers where blaming me for his behavior. I thought no way it cant be the way i raise him i went to the doctors and a year later i found out he had ADD and it wasn't me at all. Now he is doing a lot better at school. Just don.t blame all parents sometimes the kids cant help it.

Always the same argument. "Don't generalize." That's a given.
Also, you're placing blame for your kid throwing rocks on ADD? Oh my God.

Let me guess... the doctors and the school board doped your kid into a stuper so he'll sit in class and be quiet. Sounds like a familiar situation. They tried to do the same thing to me when I was a kid. Thank heavens my Mom fought them to the bitter end to stop it (she probably wouldn't win in today's politically charged school system), because that sh*t has been proven to ruin some kids lives.

When ADD was first recognised meds where the only thing available. There is a lot of dif stuff nowadays not just medication to treat it. Some people don't have meds at all for ADD its controlled by diet just depends on the person.

No thanks, I have ADD and I know that that kind of behavior isn't even close to ADD.

Depends on the kid really. I don't hate all kids. I only hate kids who are annoying and rude in movie theaters, on airplanes, or in stores. Kids will be kids I blame parents for all of that. Like when they don't stop their kid from wailing at full volume when they can't have candy or when they take them to see movies they're not old enough to see and the kid gets scared.
My favorite is when they bring babies into movies or on airplanes. Babies have sensitive ears you don't take them somewhere loud like that. Also most babies never stay quite for very long, usually only when sleeping or eating, so a movie is a horrible place for a baby. Airplanes can't be helped I guess but if I ran an airline there'd be a special section just for babies and an extra fee to make parents think twice about it.
Sometimes I get the idea that parents are so scorned that they have to put up with their kid they feel the need to "spread the joy". I find it utterly rude you'd bring a baby or small child into an environment where they will be uncontrollably disturbing the peace of everyone around them.

And you would never run an airline at that rate. I understand your idea of it being annoying that babies are crying on planes and their ears are sensitive. But travel is needed. How about people moving, or people having a family reunion or get together. So the only way to do this is to drive 22 hours instead of flying 3? I understand your frustration but to say they shouldn't be on the flight is just wrong in my opinion. I understand babies crying and making noise is a bit annoying at times, but its their way of communicating and I am sure you did the same thing and pissed off people around you. Its the way of life!

Yeah I know it's one of those things I just have to tolerate. Sucks when you're on a 13 hour flight trying to sleep though. Ear plugs only do so much. I know when I was a kid I never flew on an airplane. My first plane ride wasn't till I was 4. My parents never took me to movies until I was old enough to handle it and only kids movies. I just grew up different which is why I have a hard time figuring out why people do some of these things with their kids.

I believe that the parents are responsible of most parts of their kids' disturbing behaviers. A kid will listen to whatever its Mum tells it. I know that they are being rude sometimes because their parents program them that way. But it just makes you hate the kids even more when you can't blame the prime culprit.

I understand for sure. Sometimes parents just let them whine and whine and don't do anything, but just saying sometimes you have to bring them on a plane.
Sometimes parents just let them whine and whine and don't do anything.
That is a form of teaching bratty children to not rely on whining. Shows them that whining will not give them everything.
I love children, I am around kids 24'7. They are inventive, smart and enjoyable.

meh, I can take 'em or leave 'em. Some kids need compassion and understanding and others need to get the spanking of their life.
I think it all depends on how they are being raised, truth of the matter is that alot of people start spewing out kids before they are ready to have one so they don't know how to go about raising them. I see it all the time in my line of work. I work the toy department and I can't tell you how many times parents leaves their kids (sometimes as young 3 or 4) all alone while they go shopping, and they tear up the place. Or they are standing right there with their kid while he/she rains wanton destruction on their surroundings and don't say a thing...so maybe the kids aren't ones he need to get spanked but their loser ass parents.

I'm of the opinion that kids are only as bad as their parents allow to them to be. That is when they are little. WHen kids get older and they start becoming people and making their own choises, some people become bad people even if they where raised by the pope. I think some people forget that kids (not to be cliche)are people too, and sometimes decide to be rotten individuals despite whatever moral up bringing they recieved.

Kids are alright, and I actually do really well with kids. But I don't think I'll ever have my own. My youth is pretty important to me, and I want to stretch it as long as I can.
My friends find this ironic, as they say I'm totally the maternal type.

Yeah, same here. I want to get married and have kids. It's just that these days it's harder to be able to afford raising kids. And with the economy being the way it is, it's sitll hard for us to get jobs. I'm going to do online tutoring though because it sounds like a good way to put my degree to use. I just can't put my English degree to use in the real world.

I'm not much of a "kid" person. I do like my bf's niece and nephew tho. But in general kids make me nervous and I dunno how to act around them. To be honest, I'm not sure I'd ever have kids. I'm more an animal lover. Maybe I'll just raise doggies and kitties instead, :)

Yeah some people don't think long-term about how hard kids are to raise. And it's sad because they don't know what they are getting into. As for me, I know better. I've seen coworkers who've occasionally had to bring their kid in and he's acting up and running all over. I see the good things in kids, but then I see the really bad things in it too, and am realistic about the whole thing.

My response is probably going to make me unpopular here, but here it goes...
I NEVER liked kids! I grew up in 2 neighborhoods where making real friends was really tough. Before my dad and I moved to where I am at now, further west of Chicago, IL, we lived in two other western suburbs of Chicago (Hanover Park, and Glendale Heights). Let me tell you the neighbors there, they hatted us, and I think it was because they wanted to. I (age 5) came running home from the playground one afternoon with my head dripping in blood crying because this rotten little FU**ER was throwing golf ball size rocks at my head, and he hit me every time he threw one. There are also times I'm getting off the school bus with my head bleeding because another kid threw a fruit cocktail at my head. I was only 6 or 7! On the bus every morning or afternoon the kids made a poll: "Raise your hand if you want [name] murderd!" And every hand went up. These kids were raising their hands on the count of the thought of murder of one of their own classmates. At that age I didn't know what the word "murder" meant. This grades K - 4 raising their hands to the word "murder" on the school bus. Even the parents didn't like us; our next door neighbors compared my mother with Vanna White, he growled at me like raging bear (again I'm 6 or 7 years old). Plus the town was changing: property values were dropping, the town got nastier, the non-English speaking people who hate Americans anyways were moving in. We had to leave, but little did we know that our neighborhood problems followed us.
Now we moved to a new home, hoping for a new change. We were wrong. Glendale Heights, IL was just as nasty as the last nightmare we left. This time, we moved into an area where there was no one my age I could be buddies with. I was 8 and the other kids were like 15 - 18, and they made it clear to me they did not like children. One kid taunted me across the street while I, my older brother and his two half brothers walked to and back from the park in a very terrible way about my shirt. On the way home, this same punk was still there, taunting me back, pulling down his pants and slapping his bare ass. I had enough of his crap, and I threw a stick at him, it hit him in the bare ass, then he's chasing me with a baseball bat back home, enjoying the sight of me screaming and crying after I fell on the sidewalk scrapping my leg. And school, those kids were just looking any excuse to hate someone who wasn't like them, and they would laugh/point, fist fight, belittle, abused (which included verbally and with ice balls in the winter). There were a few rare times I fought back; I had ENOUGH! High school was no better. Pretty the same thing as I explained above, except it was all day long, almost every day. I had to report the same punk to the deans office nealry every other week, and the dean didn't do anything except talk thing over, as if kids listen to boring talk, and made us shake hands (I should of slapped that hand away from me). I was so badly terroized by kids in my first 18 years of my life, I was counting down the days until I graduate, and there were times I pretened to be sick on the phone with my dad so he call in sick for me. Of course I chose a Monday, Friday before or after a long weekend. I'm glad I left Glendale Heights, and the rest of the neighborhood trash, but I wish I had moved to Geneva, IL BEFORE I grew up, not after the damage was done.
Basically I hated kids, teens and I still do because of being terroized growing up. Even where I come from now, teens are skateboarding around looking like a bunch of rude dissrespectful punk thugs, and some rolling down their car windows screaming out swear words and phobic phrases at me for bike riding along the side of the road. I even developed a very low tollerance for screaming kids and babies when I go out to eat and that screaming brat won't shut the hell up and the parents are sitting there ignoring it meanwhile everyone else around them are feeling the nerves crawling under their skin. There have been some times I get tempted to say "SHUT THAT SQUAWKING BASTARD UP OR I WILL!!!!!!!"
What I don't understand is after I left high school (thank God), I looked for a job in a customer-oriented position; mainly retail (Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target) considering the terrible way I was abused as a kid. Perhaps a psychologist could explain this better, but I think it's my way of making up for the lost relationships and friendly environments I was lucked out of as a kid, and now I'm in a much better area, so I feel I could pull it off.
So I hate kids (screaming, crying bastards), especially the teenagers (foul-mouthing, disrespectful, out of control ugly looking dumb brutes who can't leave anyone alone). I used to want to have a son, but I'm afraid that I will be a risk that I will never love my son, that I will hate him, and that is not fair to him. So I perfer not to have any kids of my own. I think it's best.
Well I'm done bloviating now.

I've experienced this sort of thing, although not to that extreme. So while I may not hate kids per se, I may not want to have any of my own, especially with the internet being so popular among kids and teenagers these days, and what they're using it for. It sucks, since I have no immediate siblings, and my mother most likely will never become a grandmother. It looks like the only kids I'll have to settle for are the type of the canine and feline variety. Much easier to deal with.

Good early AM.
Wow. You're crazy, for real crazy.
You should probably look into some sort of help. That attitude is kind of extreme.

While kids can be a-holes a lot of the time they don't know better, or it isn't brought to their attention. I work with kids every week. They need guidence and care more than anything. Ninja Turtles 25 Years I think you need some psychological help. I understand you had a traumatic experience growing up and that f**ks with ur mind, but you can't let it ruin ur future dude. There are always gonna be mean people out there, the trick is not falling into that category cuz ur only hurting urself.

You can't blame them for behaving the way they do, they were babied or spoiled which in turn makes them as bad as they are, that's those who lack discipline and self control though, if you're going to blame anyone, it's the parents who raise the children. If they're still adults and behave like they're in 1st grade (like a few people I know), then you not only blame the parents but the adult as well because they need to grow up themselves too.
If I can mature on my own after years of neglect, they can too.

NT25Years, I'm sorry that you had to grow up in that environment, but maybe raising your own kid will be different because you'll have control over what he/she does. You'll be the parent, and you'll be able to raise them right. Don't give up on that just because of a bad experience. Learn from it and you'll be fine.

I'm sorry for your very unfortunate past, but honestly I think you need to see a psychologist or something.
To think you would hate your own kid? That's next level sh*t.
I wouldn't worry too much about him hating his own kid. No female in her right mind would procreate with someone who has this kind of baggage.
But for the record. Yeah. Having your own kid is a game changer. My brother hated kids til his came.
....not that I'm advocating that he reproduces at all. Jesus no.

Unless she has that amount of baggage herself. I know they're out there, I just know it.
Unfortunately, not everyone is like your brother. They could have kids, and still not like kids. Not even their own.

I don't hate kids, I love them like all other people. I'm just not comfortable around them, for sanitary reasons mostly. As for what kids deserved to be loved, there's some good ones and some bad ones. Also in terms of blaming parents for their acts, there's maybe a couple wrong things I may have done between ages maybe 7-9, and I don't hold anyone else responsible, I knew what I was doing; maybe some kids take longer to develop than others, but I think most kids after age 5 or 6 in normal environments know what they're doing most of the time. Parents only have so much control, and they can never be too hard or too soft, being too hard could make them guilty of abuse, and being too soft could let the kids think they could get away with something, and finding a middleground can be extremely tricky since every kid's needs are different.

What's left-handedness got to do got to do with it? O_o
