Yeah...it's THAT cartoon. You guys might remember it, and if you don't, count yourself lucky.
A brief synopsis from Wikipedia - The plot chronicles the exploits of Michael, a teenager who goes from eating bagels to smoking marijuana and stealing his father's beer. His younger sister, Cory, is worried about him because he started acting differently. When her piggy bank goes missing, her cartoon tie-in toys come to life to help her find it. After discovering it in Michael's room along with his stash of drugs, the various cartoon characters proceed to band together and take him on a fantasy journey to teach him the risks and consequences a life of drug-use can bring.
Cartoon characters featured - Alf (Alf: The Animated Series); Alvin, Simon, & Theodore (Alvin and the Chipmunks); Huey, Duey, & Luey (Ducktales); Winnie the Pooh & Tigger (The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh); Baby Kermit, Baby Piggy, & Baby Gonzo (The Muppet Babies); Papa Smurf, Brainy Smurf, & Hefty Smurf (The Smurfs); Michelangelo (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles); Garfield (Garfield and Friends); Slimer (The Real Ghostbusters); and Bugs Bunny & Daffy Duck (Looney Tunes)
And some screen shots to showcase that, as crazy as this sounds, I'm not making it up.

And one of most of the toons together to further show the insanity.

So does anyone else remember this thing? I just subjected myself to it for the first time in years and...wow. On the subject of just Mikey alone, of all the Turtles from the OT to pick for this...seriously? LISTEN to him.:D

Yeah, this really was the ultimate cartoon star team-up, which I don't think has ever been imitated to such a radical degree! I checked this thing out from the local library so much as a kid! It was amazing that they got so many different properties together and animated each one in their own style with their respective voice actors!
X-entertainment has done a great review of this special:

Yeah, it's definitely great to watch and laugh at if you can put up with the preaching. The only anti-drug special I've ever seen and liked was an episode of Dinosaurs (you know...Earl, Fran, Charlen, Robbie...Baby...'Not the mama!'...anyone?), where Robbie says 'Please, stop doing drugs so sitcoms can stop doing preachy episodes like this one. You're killing us!', therefore making the episode turn out to actually be an 'anti-anti-drug message episode'. Classic!
oldmanwinters - I also think that Nostalgia Critic did a great review on it.

He has a great point...this would make kids want to smoke just to see their favorite cartoon heroes.

Mike was basically the voice of the turtles in the public eye. I mean, when people thought turtles, they thought surfer lingo, pizza and cowabunga. Mikey all the way. Sadly, this made tmnt-parody have all 4 of em talk like surfers.

That would be the exact same copy I found and watched too, enjoy guys. :P
I've got to buy this on DVD (apparently there is one too) eventually for the hell of it. That and I must see the opening with George and Barbara Bush.

It was a great special that aired on a Saturday morning 20 years ago & was seen on a dozen networks.
If you have a good ear, one of Michael's drug friends was voiced by Joey Dedio (Wheeler of Captain Planet).
Some cartoon sters finally made an appearance on a network (of the broadcast three) they have never been on...
The Chipmunks on ABC & Bugs Bunny on NBC.

I was obsessed with this special when I was younger, I watched it all the time lol.
It's pretty cheesy now, but it's good for nostalgic purposes.

Makes me think about how incredible it is that they got the Looney Tunes and Disney gang together for Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, and then CASTTR takes a big ol' poopy all over Roger Rabbit and says 'screw that, look at all these characters!'. (WFRR is a much better viewing experience than CASTTR, don't get me wrong)

I remember this special as well. When I first saw it, I was hoping all the turtles would be in it--but Michelangelo was enough. Also, Michaelangelo sings in it a bit--just thought I'd state an obvious there.
Nevertheless, I can honestly say I remember this special and remember its messages.

I'm really surprised at all these comments about watching multiple times, renting it from the library, etc.
When I was a little kid in 4th grade and saw this on TV (they actually stopped class so everyone at my school could see it in the classroom,) I knew the whole reason behind it was the same boring message about drugs that I'd heard a million times before. I was so disappointed... my favorite characters were in cahoots with adult authority figures?! So lame. It was like in the Christmas Story when Santa Claus tells Ralphie "you'll shoot your eye out, kid."

Ah, disillusionment... we've all been there.:)
I didn't quite have the all-encompassing suspicion of adults and authority figures though, so it didn't really bother me. That's a great analogy you made to The Christmas Story though!

Which is the best reason to watch this. I wish they'd had him sing more.:D

Well don't get me wrong, I find this special to be pretty lame, and the preachiness is way over the top, you're right. But it's one of those things that have to be seen to be believed. That and, I kind-of like the art in it if nothing else. Other than a few off-shots that you kind of have to freeze-frame to notice, everyone looks just like they should in their respective shows, and yet still look natural together on screen.

I remember being shown this special in school and I was so surprised and thrilled when Michaelangelo showed up, lol.
I actually think Cartoon All Stars was one of the better anti-drug specials. It doesn't just say "drugs are bad" or "just say no" without explaining why. The characters actually level with the kid that everyone has problems in life, but you have to find other ways of dealing with it than drugs. That's something not even schools teach very well.
Btw, I also love Nostalgia Critic's review of this special and his countdown of drug PSAs, lol.

Awesome! I remember watching this a couple of times when it first came on. I remember being disappointed that He-man and the other Turtles weren't in it. In fact, I still am.

Oh, I know that. The last of the Masters of the Universe figures were made in 1987. This cartoon came out in 1990. However, I was still disappointed.
At least he doesn't sing opera in it. :P
