Has anyone ever read the final Archie TMNT comic arc Year Of The Turtles? I've been trying to keep an eye out for it but can't find it

Yeah its pretty hard to find nowadays as its rare, but I read it and its pretty good. It pretty much acts as a pseudo-climax to the Archie universe overall, since the "Forever War" never saw print. Its basically about Shredder tracking down talisman's to make himself all powerful, and Splinter gets changed back into Hamato Yoshi.

By the end of the story Shredder loses his mind and goes insane, while Hamato Yoshi shows signs of his mutation returning and how his human form is only temporary.

The line in the comic gives me chills, when Splinter tells a healing Michelangelo:

"This is the last Turtles story, after this one you'll have heard them all."

It was a nice way to wrap up the Archie series.

I own issues 2 & 3 of the three part series, & I think it's awesome.

The art is super dope, seeing Shredder is super dope, the storyline is fantastic, and the ending is perfect.

My favorite part would have to be the pinups, though. Someone should post scans!
The reason I won't is because I got the books when I was 6 & they're in horrible shape.

I did read about it on TMNT.com but only a brief synoposis, To me that would have been a proper send off to The OT cartoon and Not that pointless thing with Dregg and the out of control mutations

I actually got issues 2 and 3 of this at a dollar store in two seperate comic bundles. I just wish I could track down a cheap copy of issue 1. I really dug the 2 issues I read tho. It seemed like a nice, subtle way to end the series, considering we didn't get the huge, climatic story arc that we were supposed to get with Forever War.

According to what Murphy put his blog Archie were looking to relaunch the series as something that would do well in the direct sales market. As well as something that would appeal to both teens/young adult and kids.

Had the book not tanked that presumebly we would have gotten more TMNT Adventures in the same veign if not the same creative team.

So it obviously wasn't intended to wrap up the Archie series although I can see why some would think that given that it's told from Splinter's perspective as the last turtles story but in the context he means the latest. To me it comes off as a new beginning as opposed to an ending.

I know Cybercubed might disagree but it's clearly supposed to be a new continuity which mixes in elements from all the different versions. Even if you dismiss the Mirage and movie inspired design differences it takes elements of from the cartoon such as them being known heroes and the Mirage books. There's even a reference to Casey Jones who never appeared in Murphy's continuity.

It's a pretty cool story and I would've liked to have seen what Slott could with an ongoing TMNT book. The first issue has some good moments but I have to laugh at Don with that new fangled internet posting his whereabouts on his webpage:tlol: Stuff like that makes it more dated than Shredder's henchmen which seem to have been ripped out of pages of X-Force.

People think it's good? Ha, I got those issues as a kid; wasn't too fond of them then, and I flipped through them recently and thought they were pretty pooey. I didn't actually read 'em that last time, though.

Was gonna scan these supposed gnarly pinups, but...huh. I see two pages missing each in issues 2 and 3. :p Musta thought they WERE really cool, and cut 'em out, long, long ago. Sorry, guys. I can't even remember one bit what they looked like.

The only corny part was the TMNT fighting the Power Ranger (lol), because one had the talisman attached to him. Haha, that was around the time people were bitter that Power Rangers was killing TMNT in the ratings.

Splinter's human origin and Shredder being on his own without the Technodrome or Krang made me think it was part of Archie continuity. If you recall, in the Archie verse Shredder's last appearance was left ambiguous prior and Krang was still on the garbage planet.

Yeah, dude, they're SICK! Like, this one, has the turtles looking horrendously mutated with elongated arms and super long sharp teeth and white eyes. I'll scan what I can (though it will be sh!t quality) in the meanwhile.

Awyeah, I remember those pinups now. :) I just wish that when I was ten years old, I wasn't so much into actually cutting those things out and plastering them on my wall for a year, to have them lost or thrown away later. :p I even used to cut the cover images out sometimes. Bummer.

I think we all would have been much better growing up if scanners had been widely available.

FTR, I LOVE Archie's Year of the Turtle. I was crushed we didn't get to see the promised Forever War but YotT was a solid note for the series to go out on, even though I think they were hoping to do more issues.

I loved the all red design for Shredder.

Going from his purple cape design of the old toon to this more Mirage looking Shredder was quite awesome.

They even remembered to keep the rivalry between Shredder and Hamato Yoshi, which is stated when Splinter de-mutates back to his human form.

I've only got the last issue in this, so haven't actually read it - but i've always felt that the art is frickin' awesome.

I have these. That auction is way over priced for all 3 in my opinion. This was actually meant to be a launching point for a new comic line but it tanked so it never got off foot. I personally didn't like it. The art rocks but the story isn't very well executed. Sad too because concept wise it had lots of potential. I also found something rather immature about the turtles beating up Power Ranger look alikes.

I also wouldn't call Shredder "redesigned" all they did was draw him how he appears in the Mirage comics. Same color scheme even.

those issues definitely don't look like your typical Archie TMNT books, after seeing how they look, I must have them!!!

Something unsettling about the last issue's cover has always bothered me; possibly the fact that little Mikey is shedding a tear and that no other issuese from Archie followed.
