Okay, this post will be to break down the Miscellaneous section into more specific lists such as the following:

Interviews

Pin-Ups

Cameos

etc.

On second thought, allow me to drop a link to our friend, Rich's website: TMNT: A Collection (http://tmnt-ninjaturtles.com/). Rich took up the baton I started with this thread many moons ago and has become a preeminent source for tracking one's comic collection with photos to match the covers to the issues.

Yeah, given away when you preordered TMNT back in '07.

Huh. Standard (current) comic size? Anything much different about it? (Like a cool pinup or bio or anything.)

Venom

Current size, nothing notable aside from the editing and lack of duotones. The cover is labelled as a GameStop Edition across the top.

Abnormal Freak

More questions emerge. Editing? Lack of DuoShade tones? Is it essentially just like the PBBZ edition but with the original cover?

Not tracking the elevendy-billion Archie reprints?

Nah, I figured there wasn't much point to it since there were hardly any differences other than "X printing" on the bottom first page, with few exceptions (the movie adaptation being one). I also intentionally left off the million and three First graphic novel reprints, too. :P

Hey, that's quite a handy list - I vote for a sticky! I'm tempted to put a score through all that I own, but I really can't be bugged right now...

Thanks, that's really what I made the list for - to have a handy guide to check off as you go! I'll be adding the various other books the Turtles have popped up in later on.

If you added the odd crossovers & random appearances, then you'd really be rockin'. Nice anyway, though!

Abnormal Freak

Any reason for not including the various collections of Bodycount? I believe there's only the '96 (I think that's the right year) TPB from Image, the 2008 magazine-sized one from Heavy Metal, and the Comic-Con exclusive hardcover edition of that same printing.

Demon-Alukard

There is also Titan Books TMNT TPB 1-2 which contains whole Dreamwave series with some additional material.

From volume 1, I believe you're missing the 2nd print error variant of #4. You also list the Deluxe edition of #1 under "collected books". I'll double check the indicia on this one, but I know quite a few people (myself included) that consider that the 6th print.

There's also a TMNT (2007) Sneak Peek. I'll have to crack on open to see what's in it, but I believe it's just pictures of the 2007 movie. It's normal comic size and has a cover that shows the 2007 Turtles in the pose of TMNT #1's cover. I didn't see it on your list.

Indeed, there are no issues collected in those books, its just the first issue with some extra sketches and a forward.

Don't forget:

Plastron Cafe #1, 2, 3, 4

If you're counting character spin-offs (you have Gizmo and the Fugitoid on there, so I'm guessing you do):

Furrlough #47, 48, 52

If you're counting 1-panel cameos (you have Mars Attacks Image on there, so I'm guessing you do):

Shattered Image #2
Sonic the Hedgehog #10

And if you're counting anything that ever had a comic strip in it, these are the Palladium Books RPG guides that contained comics:

TMNT Adventures!
TMNT's Guide to the Universe
TMNT and Other Strangeness
Road Hogs: After the Bomb

I can't remember this one at all! I'll have to go back and check my Sonic archives sometime!
Was it more of a parody cameo than official cameo?

It was certaily "lawyer-friendly" since both TMNT and Sonic had comics being published by Archie at the time. As official as the Turtles appearing in Shattered Image and Mars Attacks Image, I'd say.

A one-panel gag, but they're not drawn as approximations or parodies but as the proper TMNT.

It is indeed the sixth printing; it's right there in the indicia.

Venom

Yeah, I noticed that too after checking, but I've always thought of the Special Edition more as a well, Special Edition, lol, rather than a reprinting proper; the mislabelling under collected books was due to me working on this thing late at nights - I'm well aware it isn't a collected book.

On another note, if someone has a comprehensive listing of the foreign Turtle books (UK, Italian, Japanese, etc), I'd be more than glad to add them to the list.

I've been curious about the Titan Dreamwave books myself; I have the US version of Volume 1, so how do the UK books differ (aren't there two)?

Also, here's a picture of the book I was referring to. I'm not sure if you had it listed:

Thanks for adding my suggestions.

Just a quick tip:

Plastron Cafe should probably go under the Mirage header, since they published it. Likewise, Sonic #10 should probably go under the Archie header.

And since there seems to be a lot of Image cameo and crossover issues, maybe that should get its own header?

Cool project, man.

You are doing a good job there with all the listings venom :tthumbsu:, you might want to add under the Collected books for TMNT25th theres soft and hard covers also under the Miscellaneous turtle stores Creed/TMNT the hybrid cover plus there are signed versions for the Trent and Laird covers and theres a limited edition version for the American entertainment cover, theres far to many variants for that comic 9 in total.

Sure Spengs, thanks for reminding me about those! Branching off into sub-categories like Mirage Books, etc. is something I've been toying with since I've wound up buying most of Mirage's comics this year (sans Bade Biker, Rockola, Paleo, Puma Blues or Kevin's Tundra-published books).

Thanks! Sooo true about the variants of this book being ridiculous! It epitomizes the redundancy of the '90's speculative market. BTW, what do you mean by hybrid cover?

if possible i'd like to see some pics of:
TMNT: The Secret of the Ooze (Mirage)

To be fair, this book is actually listed two or three times, even on Mirage's site. The Mirage SOTO adaptation was actually published by Tundra and is also the Archie Prestige version. Unless I'm mistaken on that last point. I've been trying to research this for a while and cannot discern any noticable differences between the two.

I don't know if it's worth mentioning, but I've got a copy of TMNT Vol. 2 #13 that has the front and back covers reversed. That is, the ad for the TMNT/Creed crossover is on the front of the book, and what should be the front cover is on the back.

i've got two comic books that i found in Toronto called

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Book II (by Eastman & Laird)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtkes Book III (by Eastman & Laird with Dave Sim)

both have "FIRST GRAPHIC NOVEL" written in the corner on the front cover. are either of these two of the Collected Books? i'd scan the covers but i can't

They're TPBs, but not the collected books you asked about above.

Those are the colored reprints by First Comics.

http://miragelicensing.com/comics/books/books.html

They're listed here as "TMNT Book I," and so on.

There were four of 'em, and combined they collected issues 1–11 as well as the Leonardo one-shot.

All of the "TMNT Collected Book Volume One"s are phonebook-esque books (save for the hardcover edition of the first publishing) that reprint issues 1–11 plus all four microseries/one-shots (though the one published last year also contains the Fugitoid one-shot).

It's both. There was a limited run of hardcover copies (200, I think), another item I covet.

The softcover is still sold by Mirage, under the "Mirage Studios - Collected Books" section, for $6. It's a cool reprint, showing the sepia tones of the DuoShade paper before being copied to black and white (or "black and yellow," perhaps I should say).

From the way folks carry on about it, I'll be glad to tell you what I fetched it for: $15 bucks, shipping included!! Yeah, even Ms. Katie was agreeing that it's a rare book to find, and now I don't have to kick myself anymore for not getting it three years ago. :D

I found it on a guy's blog with some obscure searching with Google Advanced Searching. I began searching this past weekend and stumbled across the site. The dude describes his blog as a way for him to catalogue his collection but also keep it open for folks to negotiate/buy/trade items they wish to have. He put it up Wednesday, so honestly it was purely a stroke of luck.

Welp, got my Treasury Edition in the mail yesterday! :D:D After deducting the cost of S&H, I paid $9.05 for the book.

The book is in great shape, the only damage being a small tear on the spine (which I suspect may have came from Mirage like that as my Soul's Winter trade has similar damage). What impressed me was the books still has that distinct smell that Mirage's books always had - even after 3 years!

I read through the frontispieces and skimmed the Savanti Romero story; the one thing I realized was I missed Murphy as a writer. Say what you will about his preachiness in TMNTA and such but the guy is a damn good writer! Even a scant few pages I really felt for old Don and even Jim's stylized artwork managed to capture the essence or Renet's sadness as she departed his time.

Curious thought that just hit me: wonder if Renet and the other time lords have something to do with the Hall of Lost Legends? Perhaps she is the one who saw to the Turtles induction to its hallowed walls.

Not what others consider "cameos", but to me Fire Sale, Mars Attacks Image, Phantasy Against Hunger, Samurai Penguin would count as cameos. Amazing Heroes was a comic magazine, like an early precursor to Wizard. The other stories either involve the Turtles or feature them on at least one page as part of the narrative.

If you notice anything else that needs revising, let me know! I know I'm missing some of the RPG books, but I'm on the fence about listing the kids books and other Turtle stories like that. Story books should probably be relegated to their own thread since there were so many published throughout the years and the oncoming onslaught when Nick begins to pop their books out.

I like how I slide off onto different tangents. :D

Welsh Publishing's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Magazine-- of 13 published issues, 12 have a 4-6 page TMNT comic.

Aba... Laba.. Lob-Sters!

And a Q about the Tundra TMNTA collections:
Is the new coloring in these volumes a noticeable improvement or just new coloring? The recolored covers I found on flickr look great,
but wondering about the story pages versus the original comics. Opinions welcome.

Also: Can anyone tell me what the new pages in both the Tundra Volume One collections are?

TMNT Volume One - Tundra 1991
Reprints TMNTA #5-9 with a new 8-page intro and a new 2-page epilogue.

TMNT Collected Series Volume One - Tundra 1991
Reprints TMNTA #5-7 with a new 8-page intro.

My guess is that it's the same 8-page intro in both volumes? Is Some kind of origin recap? It's a comic and not a written introduction, right?
And the epilogue-- is it just some kind of capper off the end of TMNTA #9?
Same recoloring job in both, I assume?

...Would there be any reason to buy Collected Series Volume One if I picked up TMNT Volume One? Any difference other than the front cover?

Big thanks for any input!

Abnormal Freak
11-29-2010, 10:31 AM
The recoloring jobs are amazing—really nice hand-painted stuff. Both Volume Ones have the same reprints, yes, although at some points the printing quality in the larger collection looks a little better, but it's not a significant difference (I'm just a details freak).

The 8-page intro (it's the same in both books) is of April interviewing Splinter. He tells her the Turtles' and his origin stories, a short little blurb about their enemies, then says, "Let me tell you a story..." implying that everything in the book is being relayed to April. However, the standalone Volume One is the only one to have the two-page epilog, as far as I can tell; Collected Series Volume One doesn't have it, nor do the remaining three volumes, though I only flipped through them. So it seems the epilog is exclusive to the standalone Volume One, and it's a continuation of the prolog, basically just April asking some more questions, and Splinter saying something that implies further reading, heh.

Rarest? Gold Turtlemania, only 10 in existence. Most sought after? That really depends on different things. Since the sale, the 2009 Collected Book is prized; just about any hard cover version is always expensive, the 2007 Tales Treasury Edition is elusive as well. Thing is, a lot of Turtle stuff was printed in low numbers so prices vary wildly.

Well, since the news strips were technically printed they would count (by the way have you found an archive of them all?) Who did the webcomic? I seem to recall it vaguely, but if it was by someone who had worked on Turtles then there could be a place for it to go somewhere, but preferably printed stories are what I'm trying to catalogue along with the odd art appearance, cameo, etc.

Thanks! That reminds me, who was it that posted in the Books, Comics & Lit section about a pin-up printed in a parody book? The poster emailed the writer/artist and the guy basically told him it would be in one of the #1 books, of which ALL the books were #1's (was it Rip Off Press?).

Also, has anyone noticed how insanely expensive early Sonic books are? They go for between $20-$40 bucks!!

Also, Fire Sale...someone please keep a look out for one for me please. It was a pin-up book done for a charity; a few 'Dromers picked it up for under a buck a couple years back at Mile High, but the thing has been elusive to me lately in my searches.

Yeah, the demand for old Sonic comics came as a shock. Kick myself now for trading in the first 6 Archie issues (mini 1-3+series 1-3) for a total of $3 in store credit back in 1997-- along with my end run of Marvel's GI Joe. These days those issues could topple my credit card debt. Oh, hindsight, you scamp.

Originally, no, it wasn't. That list would spiral into something massive! I intended it to be a TMNT/Mirage list. The non-Turtle Mirage books show up as they do because I compiled my listings straight from Mirage's site, as well as labelling the Collected Books as they did (thus Special Edition Deluxe initally appearing under that label).

I suppose I could branch it off into Supporting Characters, but I wouldn't want to get carried away with it to the point of redundancy (which it teeters on now with all the reprints lol!).

I'm not really doing storybooks and coloring books, though; mainly sticking with the comics. Granted there are non-comic books listed, like the RPG books and TMNT magazines, but they include a comic of some sort whether it be a pin-up or a short.

A storybook list thread would be a great idea though, you should make it. There are a ton of books made from the Turtles' various cartoons and movies!

I got to say what you are doing is awesome. It is definitley helping me figure out what I still need to add to my website's comic area as well as the comic checklist I've been working on (with help from Raph aka Rutger)... Here are links to what I have gotten done (basically a rip straight from the old ninjaturtles.com, so not much credit is due my way except maybe getting it online, lol)...

Here is a direct link to the checklist Rutger helped me make...

I will surely need to make some updates now... Thanks for putting in all this work, hope you don't mind if I use some of your information...

Go ahead, MS, and thanks! I started my list from Mirage's stuff as well and branched out thanks to this site, and doing research myself over the years. In fact, I found another book a few months back, the Mysterymen Annual, that collects the Flaming Carrot issues with the Turtles (*not* Lawsons FC/TMNT crossover).

You should probably add Mirage TMNT vol. 4 #31 and the Casey Jones graphic novel-length story Muscle & Faith, both of which have been made available online.

Titan Books in the UK published two collections of the Dreamwave TMNT series: vol. 1: Attack of the Mousers and vol. 2: Out of the Shadows.

I think Mirage also published an adaptation of the third movie.

The original Archie TMNT Adventures miniseries was collected as TMNT: Heroes in a Half-Shell.

There was an eight TMNT digest from Archie.

Gen 13 #13B was collected in Gen 13 ABC, which I highly recomend if only for all the cool and funny cameoes.

Savage Dragon #2 was collected in the Savage Dragon (vol. 2): A Force to be Reckoned with.

Savage Dragon #22 was collected in the Savage Dragon (vol. 6): Gang War.

Savage Dragon #41 was collected in the Savage Dragon (vol. 9): Worlds at War.

There's also the TMNT Cowabunga Comics artbook, done for some charity.

The Turtles also made an appearance in the Rockin Rollin Miner Ants series (not sure which issues).

There was a TMNT pin up in Cerebus #155.

The Turtles were also in Equine the Uncivilized #3.

The Turtles made appearances in some of the GnatRat books (again, not sure which ones).

I hear the Turtles made some sort of appearance in Spider-Man Team-Up #5 (featuring Howard the Duck), which ties into the Savage Dragon/Destroyer Duck special that the Turtles WERE in.

Sonic the Hedgehog #10 should be collected in Sonic Archives vol. 3.

Road Hogs and After the Bomb are two separate RPG books.

There was a TMNT /Savage Dragon mini comic included with action figures.

There was a TMNT story in the UK-published Comic Relief Comic, apparently penned by none other than Neil Gaiman.

I've been wondering about this one-- is this a collection of TMNT material from past issues of Comics Interview (#27,#83, ??) or entirely new material? Combination of both?

DrSpengler

I'm not sure if it's a combination of past material (it doesn't specify), but it covers a LOT of ground, with tons and tons and interviews with everyone from every facete of the franchise as well as a plethora of photos and Eastman/Laird art I've never seen printed anywhere else.

It's a real cool walk down memory lane, particularly all the photos of the Mirage crew in their metal phase.

Well, I have some of the issues so I guess I can check.

The Turtles also made an appearance in the Rockin Rollin Miner Ants series (not sure which issues).
I flipped through #1-4 and there's no TMNT appearance, just a Kevin Eastman pin-up of the Ants in #3. You may be thinking of the RRMA/TMNT preview from the back of TMNT v1 #40.

David Anthony Kraft's Comics Interviews Super Special: TMNT

And I can verify that this reprints a Dean Clarrain/Dan Berger/Ryan Brown TMNTA interview from Comics Interview #83. And I would assume the Eastman/Laird interview is the same as what's found in CI #27. Reprints or not, it is a very cool look into the people involved with TMNT, and not an expensive addition to a collection.

The Turtles were in Amazing Heroes Swimsuit Special #2.

The Turtles' guest appearances in the Savage Dragon were also collected in The Savage Dragon Archives vols. 1 & 2 (in black-and-white).

There's a pinup of Leo in The 3-Minute Sketchbook from the Hero Initiative.

The Turtles were in numerous issues of Comics Revue:

Was there only one action figure pack-in comic?

There was only one TMNT/Savage Dragon toy pack-in mini comic, but it had like seven or so varient covers for each of the different characters it came with (Don, Mikey, Raph, two versions of the Dragon, She-Dragon, and Barbaric IIRC).

I don't think there's a TMNT-related appearance in FIRE SALE, just a one-page Kevin Eastman comic.

Just discovered that there are also Signed & Numbered Ashcan versions of Flaming Carrot #25,26,27: http://www.milehighcomics.com/cgi-bin/backissue.cgi?action=list&title=32424913992&snumber=1
Don't know if the content is any different but there are some small cover variations. That Ashcan #27 cover is way cooler IMO:

EDIT: Yep, it's listed! I thought so, I got that book last year. Cool cover.

I'm trying to find the topic on here in the General Forums where a poster was trying to find a parody book that had a pin up in. Every book released was a number 1 so the person didn't want to have to buy them all just to find it. Rip Off Press was it?

It was a "Savage Turtle" pinup (amalgamating Savage Dragon/TMNT); I remember doing a search and finding an SD parody issue and wondered if it were in there.

Is that enough vague hints to point someone in the right direction?

Donatello guest-starred in the Darerat/Tadpole flip book by Mark Martin.

How can you tell that's Donatello? The only ninja turtle I see in Darerat/Tadpole is weapon-less and delivering pizzas for 'Splinter's Pizza'. (Note: I'm looking at the issue as collected in the Ultimate Gnatrat TPB, don't know if the actual issue differs.)

Now "Ultimate Gnatrat" could be included on the checklist, but unless I've missed something there's no TMNT in the various Gnatrat one-shots apart from that one panel in Darerat/Tadpole.

Well, without doing a full-on side-by-side comparison, I know a color poster/insert bound in Darerat/Tadpole wasn't included. Ultimate Gnatrat's indicia just says "Much of the material in this book was originally published in The Dark Gnat Returns, Happy Birthday Gnatrat, and Darerat/Tadpole: Prankster-- Lots of pages in The Ultimate Gnatrat are brand new, however, and make it well worth buying even if you have all the grubby old comics."

As far as rarity, I asked about that some time back-- best answer came from Andrew: http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showpost.php?p=800091&postcount=16 --granted, the answer was that no one remembers the cover's print run.

The copy of this I ordered from MileHighComics shipped yesterday so I'll be able to give a report in a week or so if no one else has information about it--
my understanding is it's a listing of creators and their books from the 80s independent comics boom.

Order came faster than expected-- the book is an odd thing full of bios, art, and short comics by all the creators listed on the cover, along with information on how to get copies of their work.
It's small, only 5 1/2" x 4", so actual size is smaller than these cover scans:
http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/6845/indycomicsampler0200fc.jpg http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/4906/indycomicsampler0200fcg.jpg
The regular cover is the black & white one (4000 copies), the green & white cover was limited to 50 copies--
10 were given as prizes in a write-in contest announced in the back of the book and the remaining copies were given to the contributors.
(No, I don't have a copy of the green one.)
A colored version of this cover was used as the cover of Comics Interview #27.

I edited the two TMNT-related blurbs onto a single page:
http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/9451/indycomicsamplertmntcon.jpg

And the highlight: a Kevin Eastman pin-up:
http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/1943/indycomicsampler0235eas.jpg

All in all, it's an interesting little artifact showcase of the independent comics explosion that the TMNT ignited in the 1980s.

Okay, time to bother Venom about updating his checklist:

- Digital Webbing Presents 24 has 3-4 variant covers.
- Fire Sale has no TMNT content, just a cool one-page Eastman story.
- TMNT/Savage Dragon Mini Comic (Action Figure pack-in) has 7 covers.
- Turtle Force Fan Club Mini Comic AKA Street Collectors Edition.

- Independent Comics Sampler #2 not listed - has Eastman TMNT pin-up.
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1-3 (cereal mini-comics) not listed.
- Warriors of the Forgotten Sewer mini-comic/toy pack-in not listed.

and it seems like Tundra Sketchbook #9 - Michael Dooney should be included as its contents include TMNT material that outclasses most of the pin-ups in random B&W 1980s comics.
For example:

EDIT: There's also five pages of Soul's Winter TMNT sketches in Tundra Sketchbook #3 - Michael Zulli.

Actually the Turtle Force mini-book is listed. I thought I was the one that told ya about Dooney's sketchbook several months back?

Digital Webbing #24 I'll change to Andy Tong TMNT variant, since the others are different covers. For some reason that just doesn't fit into completionist territory in my mind. The TMNT cover does, but not so much the other ones.

I wonder what that is sticking outta Don's shell - looks a bit like a tail, but his tail is between his legs, where it should be. Perhaps a holster for his bo? Or the katana that can be seen on the orginal comic cover?

Finally found the September 1994 issue of Heavy Metal with the TMNT appearance (of sorts)-- it's a mostly terrible story:

http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/4103/turtlegumbo1.jpg http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/1910/turtlegumbo3.jpg

I like the look of the art, but the content of the 10-page story is lame: two backwoods stereotypes in the bayou using tired Looney Tunes antics to catch critters to add to their grandma's gumbo.

I think I brought this up a llooonnggg while back, but just a head's up that there's several printings of issues one through (maybe) 12 of the Archie series that are incredibly hard to find.

The series was sold in multiple printings at Kay B Toys back in the day, and went up to 5th printings of individual issues in some cases. I've got several of them myself, but a full set of all of the printings is damn hard to put together.

wilddiverse
09-08-2011, 01:08 AM
I believe it's #1-11 that have multiple reprintings.

I've discovered that not all those reprinted issues list which printing it is in the indicia. If the inside front cover is in color, then it's a first print, otherwise the issue if a reprint, but I've never seen a guide to further differentiating which reprint edition an unmarked reprint is-- do you have some insight or knowledge into telltale differences between the reprints? I don't know how you could know you have a full set of all printings.

I second these sentiments. As the Archie series was vastly distributed and in much higher circulation than any other TMNT comic, the reprintings seem almost redundant to collect as they don't really offer much difference in value and content.

-eh- It's a completist thing. It'd only be redundant if you didn't want to embrace the hunt! ;)

But that being said, most of the reprints I've got state the printing near the statement of ownership. I'll try and take some scans this weekend, and post them here if it will help!

I've seen reprints with the printing edition indicated and many without it-- I don't need to see proof that some editions are marked so don't scan them on my account.
The issue is that there are reprint editions that don't indicate which printing it is so what's needed is a verified method to tell which edition it is if it's not marked.
(That is, if you're one of a select few who feels it necessary to own multiple copies of the same issue.)

I'm happy with just my set of 1st printings sans barcodes, personally.

I really love all the work done here on this checklist but i feel some work was needed sorting the misc section. I agree with all listed but I would like to be able to arrange them in to categories ranging from official appearances down to just printed articles. this way those using this as a shopping list can more easily distinguish the misc comics that have actual turtle stories and those that only a extreme completionish would persue. personally I would seek them all out. let me know what you all think of this arrangement, some issues i just had to guess on the placement.

I suppose I could branch it off into Supporting Characters, but I wouldn't want to get carried away with it to the point of redundancy (which it teeters on now with all the reprints lol!).

supporting characters already count in your list and rightly so.

Furrlough 47, 48, 52 (Ninjara)
Grunts (Triceratons)
Mighty Mutanimals (serveral issues had no turtles)
Casey Jones 1, 2

so why not include The Collected Gizmo if it contains a Renet appearance?

Curious... what is present in the comic that indicates it's a reprint if there is no printing designation present?

Read the post you quoted again, that's exactly his point. We have no means of determining the print of those issues.

wilddiverse

No, I think he's asking for a detail that might not have been mentioned about the Archie series yet in this particular thread-- the first prints have a color advertisement on the inside front cover, all subsequent printings have a black and white ad on the inside front cover. When the inside front cover is B&W and there's no printing designation in the indicia, I know of no way to determine which it is beyond ruling it out as a first printing.

I believe all the ads in reprint editions are house ads for Archie series as well, but the inside front cover test is the tried and true fast method.

# TMNT Volume One (Tundra)

aren't the publishers on these 2 switched? I though archie only had one volume collecting the mini series (not recent heroes in a halfshell) and tundra had the four volumes.

Actually, I think those might all be from Tundra-- they printed two Volume One TPBs. The V1 edition specifically for comic shops collected more issues and had a framing/origin recap story not found in the other volumes.

Hats off to Sam for the ebay find, but we have confirmed the existence of an error variant of the Jetpack cover of IDW TMNT#1. It's orange.

Jetpack confirmed legitimacy via email today.

The claimed print run is 400.

Hopefully I get an Orange one in the mail when I get my books. Only problem is, without having a regular to compare it to, it might be hard to idendify it. Lighting might play a role too. I wonder how orange it actually is.

Good point. I hope someone can take a side by side picture of the 2 together at some point, where we can see if it's really orange or just a kind of faded red.

Yes, it's a scan not a photo, but that's perfect lighting nonetheless.

Welp, I finally hit the max length in the first post, so I'll be editing the second spot to store information as it comes. It will probably get filled faster as IDW produces several variants for each book.

A few minor corrections...

Miscellaneous TMNT Stories

* Cowabunga Comics TMNT Benefit Book for Friends of Children, Inc.
* How to Draw Eastman & Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Light Cover, Dark Cover)
* Independent Comic Sampler 2 (Black/white, Green)
* Mars Attacks Image 1, 2, 3, 4
* Phantasy Against Hunger
* Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Authorized Martial Arts Training Guide (Martial Arts Guide, Mike, Don, Rafael, Leo) (comprise set of 1-5)
* Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Sourcebook (2K3)
* Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Teach Karate
* TMNT Portfolio (1988, 1992, 2009)
* TMNT Sneak Peek (2K7)
* Turtlemania (White, Silver, Gold)

The Turtles were only in the first issue of Mars Attacks Image, and not in the rest. All the others listed above aren't comic stories, BTW, they're either instructional material (the How-to-Draw and training manuals), behind the scenes guides (the TMNT 2003 series Sourcebook, TMNT 2007 Film sneak peek book and I guess the Independent Comic Sampler), or art-books/pin-ups (Phantasy Against Hunger, Turtlemania, Cowabunga Comics, the Portfolios)

Miscellaneous Unpublished TMNT Stories

* Heroic #6

I think Heroic was just a fanzine with some interviews with the Mirage guys.

Parody and Unoffical TMNT Appearances

* Equine the Uncivilized 3, 6
* Miami Mice 4
* Pre-Teen Dirty-Gene Kung-Fu Kangaroos 1
I'd personally file these under misc. TMNT stories. Despite their satirical nature, not only did Eastman and Laird approve the Turtles' appearances in these books, they also drew in the Turtles in each of the comics.

TMNT Articles

* Amazing Heroes 107, 171, Swimsuit Special 2
* Comics Arena #6 (jam piece)
* Comics Revue 58,59,60,61,62,63,64,65,66,67,68,69,70,71,72,73,74 ,75,76,77,78,79,80,81,82

The Swimsuit Special and Comics Arena probably best fit in the Pin-Ups section, and the Comics Revue stuff should perhaps be in the misc. TMNT comic stories section (since they reprint the TMNT weekly comic strip).

I see I missed editing some along the left edge, but not sure what you mean about "white squares"? The paper quality and general sketchiness of the art on this really is not impressive-- I just didn't feel like spending a long time editing out little sketchy tracings. I'll PM you the raw scan and you do whatever you feel like.

edit: apparently it's difficult to see the squares on an LCD monitor.

The first 3 issues from IDW had newsstand editions that were sold at Barnes & Noble. All of them were the same as the "Cover A" Direct Market editions just without the "Cover A" designation on the cover. I posted more details about #1 on my site (http://www.tmnt-ninjaturtles.com/blog/2011/10/tmnt-1-idw-newsstand-edition/) a few months back and there are cover pics of the the 3 newsstand editions in the variant cover archive in case you're interested.

sorry if this topic has come up previously (may have missed it as i was reading through the pages) just curious what the volume 2 issue 13 misprint is?? took me forever to find that issue as it is, so of course there has to be a misprint variant to track down... LOL

...just curious what the volume 2 issue 13 misprint is...

It's actually not a misprint but an error (commonly called the "switched cover variant/error")...the art that should be the back (Creed/TMNT ad) is actually the front (and vice versa).
While I don't have access to my copy at the moment I believe that, because of the covers being switched, if you were to open it from the side that has the actual front cover art, it would open from the left instead of the right and show the last page of the comic. Maybe someone else can validate that if they have their copy handy.

Right, if you open the comic from the actual front (CreeD/TMNT ad), the comic is correct; if you flip the book around (real cover, open from left) you'll be facing the last page.

That'd be cool if it had been printed like a manga, though! :D

I actually remember when I bought this from my LCS the week it came out. The guy there said that all the copies that came in were like that. A while later a corrected copy of the comic appeared in my hold slot and the owner wanted to buy back my error copy for double the cover price. Needless to say, I didn't take him up on that.

I still find these error copies in back-issue bins from time to time...it had to be fairly common.

so this one is a stretch. kinda. anyhoo, there's a 2 page tmnt comic in the newest (jan-feb 2013) lego club magazine. yes it's silly, as you should expect a comic aimed at 5-7 year olds to be, but i know there's at least a few other completists out there that would want this info.

here's a pic of the zine cover (you're looking for the issue on the right): http://coolandcollected.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/legoclub-1.jpg

I did indeed. The way I figure it is that I spend so little on the vintage collection these days, that dropping a little bit of coin when something DOES pop up that I don't have doesn't really bother me. Were you in on the fun today? I figured you'd probably be my competition ;-)

I'm not surprised really. Ash cans are historically the most expensive books. I mean, GG1 and 2 are technically ash cans. Turtlemania can be considered an ash can as well. The Birds the Bees and the Turtles, too. All Ash cans, all terribly expensive.

The Flaming Carrot ash cans seem to be the exception after someone flooded the market with them a couple years ago.
