View Full Version : Vigilante Identities for Leo/Don?

Both Mikey and Raph have a masked vigilante for fighting crime alone with their Turtle Titan/Nightwatcher identities. Have Leo or Don ever had a vigilante identity like Mike/Raph?

I seem to recall an episode of the OT where Donatello is wearing a batman-esque get up but wasn't that him being manipulated or something like that? I'm not sure if that counts. Leo was also known as 'the spirit' or something like that in the 2007 Movie but all he wore was a Jedi robe so I'm not sure if that counts. Anything from Mirage/Archie I may be missing?

Maybe its just me but it'd be cool if all 4 had their own unique 'solo' vigilante identities even if from different universes.

I've always counted Ghost of the Jungle (2007) and Dark Turtle ('87) for Leo and Don, respectively.

Donatello's Dark Turtle was because of amnesia.

Still, no matter the universe or origin, a team-up between all of those identities would be cool even if it would be a little too biased toward dark and mysterious for a super team. Haha!

Oh wow, the Batman-like Donny was from the OT? I always thought that was just an original toy.

Night of the Dark Turtle. I believe is the name of that episode.

Raphael also became a superhero in that episode where he thought he was going to die, "The Green Avenger" I think he called himself.

And yes, Donatello became the "Dark Turtle," it was a Season 7 episode.

I suppose Leo's, "ghost of the jungle" from the 4th movie would count for him.

In an episode of the original cartoon, Leonardo fought crime thinking he was D'Artagnan after hitting his head. Does that count?

The two were actually similar-yet-different.

I love that episode.

Ohh, okay. So the toy was likely just inspired by the episode then? That's definitely the one I had, I remember the little...sidekick...thingie.

Not cool at all to me. They're not crimefighters and it does not behoove them to fight humanity's crime for them.

I guess Ghost of the Jungle should count, I guess I didn't want to count it since its from the same movie as the nightwatcher and all he wore was a robe. Did they make a toy of "Jedi Leo"?

As far as the Dark Turtle I don't remember the episode so I'm not sure if I should count it or not? Like someone mentioned when Leo hit his head he thought he was D'Artagnan and the other turtles dressed as the three musketeers and I don't count that.

Didn't don go by "Cyber Don" in the Image comics? maybe that could count. I was also thinking of counting Raphs wrestling costume from the Archie series but he doesn't go by name and Raphael has a much better/actual undisputed vigilante identity.

The two [toy/caroon] were actually similar-yet-different.

I wonder if the show version was inspired by the toy or not, dressing up a turtle as batman is something that both could have come up with and just a coincidence, however we did see toys appear later in the show even after the toy had already been out for a while plus theres others like Slash that look nothing like their toy.

Yes they did make a toy of "jedi Leo". It was "Jungle Leo".
& no, Donny was known as "Cyber Don" only to fans. He was still the same dude, & wasn't a vigalante either.

What's so funny about Andrew's response? It's true, despite what the cartoon may have led you to believe.

"To be sure, this is a lighter incarnation, but it's certainly no less valid and true to the character's roots...."

Pot = kettle. The OT Turtles were crimefighters more so than original and later incarnations, those other versions seemed to just get caught up in stuff that led to their intervention. Don't get me wrong, I love the OT and every other version of the Turtles, but it doesn't change the fact that the OT had very little in common with Mirage's TMNT. The personalities were either subdued or exaggerated, mostly the latter.

I feel weird debating this, criticizing something I love. It's almost as unsettling as admitting my DMC is slow and quirky. :/ :D

I laughed at Andrew's response because its a typical response of him; not in a mocking way either I like him and the way he always brings his PURE MIRAGE OR BAIL attitude to threads.

As far as the turtles roots, the TMNT are bigger than Mirage and the original version. The original version of Batman killed and had a gun yet that is pretty much two things that no matter how true to the source material are Batman's biggest no-no's. The OT made the turtles what they are today and influenced the Mirage comics and will continue to influence every single TMNT media that ever comes out.

Personally I think its cool that in various universes a turtle has gone as a solo vigilante. They aren't crimefighters in general as a group, I don't really consider them as such even in the OT but they definitely fit the bill on most occasions in most of the turtles interpretations.

It's cool to me in the "non-Super Mutant TMNT manga" sense or in the "wacky side stories done by freelancers in Vol. 1" sort of way. I never really would consider it for an ongoing story or anything. Just something fun for me to read or watch as a one-off.

What the heck is this from?

Also, Night of the Dark Turtle was a great episode!

Leo got amnesia and thought he was the Musketeer D'Artagnion in the ep "The Four Musketurtles". Cam Clarke voiced the character in the AWESOME UK series Dogtagnion and the Muskehounds years before TMNT. So he could easily still be D'Artagnion or Ghost of the Jungle (or The Phantom? )

Don got amnesia and became the Dark Turtle....and scared off the Triceratons from earth in their ONLY appearance in the OT.

Raph thought he was dying and became The Green Avenger in the OT and in the 2K3 was The Green Mantle (Green Lantern).

Mikey is just...Turtle Titan.

Raphael's Green Avenger was in "Raphael VS the Volcano". By the way, remember in 2k3's "Lone Raph & Cub" when Raphael fought the mobsters and told them "I am Green Vengeance".

Yeah, Don cosplaying as Batman kind of taken away the seriousness of his amnesia... the story had Donatello literally tracking down the Shredder and tries to kill him. o.0

Fortunately he got better.

Also I love that April pic *saves*

The things people can miss. I always just thought that green vengeance part was just a really bad joke... still kind of is, but at least now it holds something to it.

Yeah in the Back to the Sewer episode when Raph became the Green Mantle, I was hoping he would call himself "Green Vengeance"

I've often thought the same thing. I'd love to see someone draw that up, to be honest. It would be pretty badass
