Now, this is really for people who own the first print only. I know there was only 3000 copies made. I cant imagine more than half are left considering tons of people probably just threw them away and Im sure Kevin and Pete gave some away at some point and time.
I just won a copy on Ebay for $900. I am super stoked since I feel like I own a piece of history now. Definatly something I always felt like I needed to own if I am a true Turtle fan.
So, who all here actually owns a first print of issue #1?
I own one!!!!!.....only in my dreams:(

It's funny if you think about it...there were 3,000 printed; that's more than some of the later books that go for WAY less. Being number one justifies the price but it's a neat thought.

Explain please. I own one. Got it a while back but might be selling mine to cover some expenses. But will pick up another in the future. (In better condition).
Oh, and seeing this thread reminded me of this video. Poor guy. I feel for him.

one Crazy Story of Misunderstooding and Wasted Time when I started my collection in november 2k9
I feel Sorry for Mr Jones because of this. I'm an honest tmnt fan , no need to prove it and that wasn't my fault anyway.
time is money and money is time , after 2 month waiting , I told paypal they refund me , during this time the precious comic finally showed up ! unfortunately the $ was gone elsewhere.
I send it back , end of the story.
I will never buy another one #1 trust me. This book is cursed

^ Why didn't you contact the seller and arrange some sort of installment plan. I'm sure he would have been willing since you were honest enough to send it back without trying to keep it without paying.
Stunning books guys!! I remember when that 7.0 was in a blue label...:) And man, that 9.4 sure is pretty.
Tristan Jones' page is up for grabs being that he ignores everyone on earth.
Yes that says all
^ Why didn't you contact the seller and arrange some sort of installment plan.
Ha don't you think I haven't tried ? I' may be crazy but I'm not dumb mate :twink:
Ill try to explain , I emailed him like all day during 2 months he never answered and the money was gone since I won the auction.
so I payed and waited ... Gettin Starved and wait more ...and finally You feel that somebody f*cked you up !
you gettin real sick ! then you just use the paypal security and get your notes back.
when you got +X00€ out of your bank account for a (useless) comic book and it doesn't show up , you fear of never see the sh*t or even understand what happened to you , cause you are a newbie in English , you are new on the drome n' the dude lives with kangaroos as you don't ( I like kangaroos , i'm not racist)
then yu start asking yourself wtf " damn ! why you bought this hardcore invisible fan piece "
I didn't kew about T* reputation , his involvement in tmnt comic book etc... I was a real newbie in tmnt world (Am I still. lol) but it don't change nothing
I finally get the money back from paypal then I spend it on other turtle stuff.
The comics finally showed up after Two weeks since the refund was done !! regular shipping time if you want my feelin' but ha yeah great , opened it, I took a pic as a memory..but it was so late m8, me, I was dry again (.) nuff said.
I'm leavin the Club !

Bah! Looks great to me man! I think "well loved" books are awesome. No shame in a 7. Hell, one of my favorite books I ever owned was a copy of the first app. of Thor that was graded 1.0. SUCH a cool looking book.

Ha, me neither. My copies of the YOTT books are shot to hell. One is missing a back cover, they're all torn on the corners, white eyes have been colored in (by me, as a small child), etc. I hate that that's how they are, considering their rarity, but it's still funny to an extent.
The history, that is.

Yeah, I actually like it when comics look like they are as old as they are, if that makes sense. I love a fresh book. Even an old, fresh book. But having a beater copy is just as cool.

Picked up first printings of issues 1-4 around 1989 - they cost £20 for the set (which would work out at around £100 these days). It was just before the TMNT got really big over here.
I've sold a lot of my comics this year, but those (and my complete Daredevil run) are the only ones I wouldn't even consider selling.

Yeah, it would have been around the time the cartoon was just starting, so TMNT wasn't that known here. I think the set was a little more expensive, but my dad managed to haggle. The worst part was they were a birthday present, so I had to wait almost 3 months to get my hands on them.
They weren't in great condition (maybe a 7, 7.5), and they've taken a battering over the years. But I wouldn't trade them for the world...

What is on the label around the "7.0" (above and beneath)? They usually reserve that area of the label for notes on restored books but the blue label indicates it's unrestored.

Good Eye, I'm guessing the A is for alteration. I did'nt remember untill I got it back from grading. When I first received the comic it had a small pinhead sized white spot on it, so I touched it with a black marker (Genius). They must really go over these things. I've looked and looked and still can not find (or remember) where I dotted it at.

Contact CGC, they keep records of every book on file so they should be able to remind you where the alteration is.

Unless I'm mistaken, you've got a genuine CGC mistake, there. Unless there's something I'm missing, that should be a purple Restored label, not the blue Universal label. Not that it matters as I'm sure it's a keeper regardless of the label color.
Anyway, the "A" is for amateur. CGC classifies restoration into Professional and Amateur classes and then from there designates it as slight, moderate, or extensive.
Don't feel bad about touching up your book. A popular book with a black cover like this means you're far from alone.

New member here, first post. I have collected the toy line for some time, but recently began collecting the comics. I finally purchased a #1 graded 8.5 last year. I have been looking for a 9.0+ to add to the collection, but have not located one at a reasonable price yet. I have a #2 graded at 9.4, two #3's (9.2 and 9.8 ) as well as a #3 no blue plate variant (500 copies) graded 9.4, and a #4 graded 9.2. Glad that I found this board and I am looking forward to learning a lot more about TMNT from you fans.

Yes, you are right, CGC just replied it was a error and should of been a purple label. They said they would regrade it for free..but I think I will keep it as is.
