I asked PL when and this is what he said.

""3. Do your adoring fans get another awesome christmas present TMNT #32 :D ?"

"Not this Christmas, at least. Maybe next year... but I can't guarantee it. -- PL"

I bet Pete loves the fact that he can't even celebrate the holidays without someone pestering him about the TMNT.
We're lucky to have gotten 31, period.
If we're to see any more of vol.4, it won't be so soon.
At least not as close to the last one.

I sort of agree but the man should be happy that he is still thought of because soon when Nick starts bringing stuff out, I'm sure that tune will change.

Asking one question and telling him if it goes unanswered no worries is pestering? It would be nice to post something on here without you commenting like his right hand bitch... If he wanted nothing to do with them anymore what so ever he wouldnt have reserved the right to still publish 8 comics a year and he would have at least had him or his wife to write short stories for each ongoing story so fans would have their conclusion and he could be left alone. My theory is he only wants the tmnt when neccessary because he knows TMNT by Peter Laird will sell, end of story. No reason to be a dick about things. He wanted all rights to tmnt he got them, the fans come with it whether its fanboys, haters, kids, adults, pestering people, or people that grip on everyword they say.

to vaughn: I agree I think as soon as nick and the movies start he will be thought of just like Kevin has been thought of over the past few years, "He sold his part." I know if I ever create something like PL and KE did I wouldnt wont to stop maybe take a break every now and again to enjoy the fruits of my labors but I cant say I would saleout to a larger company.

I think Pete will eventually come back to the turtles. But when, who knows. Could be next year or in 10 years. I think he is still trying to get used to his life without the turtles and he is enjoying it. Spending quality time with his family and getting back to his roots with drawing are more important to him right now.

Tmnt is probably the last thig on his mind. I have faith he will come around again but only when he is ready. In the meantime Nick will be keeping us interested.

Not to sidestep anything you said, because I know you were clarifying your frustration but "TMNT by Peter Laird" largely didn't sell...only a handful of us were faithful followers.

I suspect, like others, after 5 years or so, Pete will get an itch to start doing just a few more TMNT comics again, just for old times sake.

It would make sense for him to finish Vol. 4 than do anything new.

He just needs this time to wind down after 25 years of managing his franchise. Once Nick's stuff starts coming out, it'll probably make him want to do his own thing again too.

That's, IMO, when we'll see Vol. 4 completed. I just kinda hope he gets Lawson back to do the art.

So easy for someone to say when they haven't been in that situation. I'm sure just about everyone who has sold out anything to anyone at any time also said "I will never sell out".

Yes. From my understanding, very few copies of each Vol. 4 issue were printed, with only like the first or second getting a second print run. All of Vol. 4's issues but three are readily available. So, few copies per issue, those still being available in abundance... I'd say it didn't sell so well.

And aside from being tired of having a life revolving around the Turtles, I kind of wonder if another reason Laird sold the property is perhaps he wanted public interest to be sparked again, for old and new generations. The Turtles were the most popular in the late '80s to early '90s, and I'm guessing Laird probably wants his creations to reach that peak popularity again where "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is a household name. Though it lasted a number of seasons, I doubt the 2K3 series was watched as much as the original toon during its prime, and I also doubt the toys attached to it sold as well as the old toys. (I could be wrong on this; I'm only assuming.) That and I think I heard the 2007 TMNT didn't do incredibly well in the box office. That is, a lot of people went to see it, but it didn't rake in nearly as many people nor as much dough as the first three films during their theatrical runs. (Not saying this as fact either. Again, just what I've been told.)

Nickelodeon, if they go all the way with the TMNT property—and they will, 'cos they wouldn't buy it for $60 million just to do nothing or even something small—will with very little doubt make the Turtles a smashing success and something kids everywhere love. With that kind of exposure and money behind it, it's almost a guaranteed thing. I'm not sure I'll end up liking what they do (I hope I like it, though I don't have cable/satellite TV, so that makes me sad), but whether I dig it or not, if it makes a whole new generation of kiddies incredibly happy, that's what matters.

I know Laird has expressed not really liking the original toon nor the second movie and so on, but I'm sure he adored the widespread exposure of his and Eastman's characters. And, let's face it—Peter Laird knew full well that "Peter Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" hasn't been selling. I'm sure most people who are familiar with the Turtles, those of us who grew up with the show, only know the names Eastman and Laird as being "those guys who created the Turtles"...and nothing more. And those names I'm sure were only familiar to most of us because they were plastered on the Archie comics and other licensed products or mentioned in the Turtles magazine.

Sure, I mean, the comics sold well in the beginning. In the mid to possibly late '80s, TMNT was a pretty big comic, for an independent comic. The cartoon, the toys... They brought the franchise into superstardom. And the Turtles, in both fields ("Mirage comics" and "outside the comics") have never seen that kind of popularity since.

But anyway, to go back to the very original topic... All I can say is, "That's not really much of an update, now is it?" We all know Laird may finish up #32 in the future. We've known that for years. Where's the update? The newsflash? Sorry to sound like a dick, but...this isn't news; this isn't an assurance of it ever being completed.

And hell, if I had made a once-hugely-successful property and were offered $60 million to sell all rights to it...hell yes, I'd go through with the deal! Hey, as a fan, I'm a wee bit sour about Laird selling the Turtles and no longer having much creative control over them (that's assuming he continues the comic and Nickelodeon keep their fingers out of what he and Mirage do with it), but...$60 mil, man. From that, Laird would have had to pulled in a huge amount—the majority, I would assume. Life isn't money, and can actually have disastrous consequences when not spent wisely, but I'd be pleased to have that kind of money and never worry about personal poverty or struggle to pay bills, and have the ability to help out friends and family and churches monetarily. I don't begrudge Laird for "selling out"; hopefully, he'll be able to pass that money on to future generations of Lairds, and many will be blessed by (t)his wealth.

Why are you guys acting like its some mystery why he sold the Turtles? He already explained why in his blog several times. He wanted to be the quiet comic artist he once was instead of managing a million-dollar franchise.

He wants to spend more time with his family that he feels was lost after focusing on the Turtles for 25 years.

Regarding Vol. 4, he never did rule out the possibility that he won't finish it, so I guess we'll see.

I know why and I completely understand. I just cant believe that he spent every waking min during the 25yrs of tmnt and he didnt do anything else. Where was he during images run? I am not sour for him to be able to do 8 comics a year, I want those comics(from a fan perspective). Would I sell my creations I dont know I cant say I would/wouldnt I thought it was a little disrspectful from him to be 25 years of tmnt party wagon build up hype just to sell it. I think the only reason that the tmnt were being promoted was because viacom didnt think there was a fan base. You know there is a way he can have both why not have lawson and crew finish it up and have them stay strictly to his story or do an "april origin" type of story and hire lawson and crew do a scene perpage. Batman Hidden Treasure was amazing, if you hadnt read it flip through it some time a fantastic story.

I know that's the reason he'd given, but who's to say there aren't other reasons also? Maybe he doesn't really care whether the Turtles become huge in the minds of the public again, but I get the feeling he does want that and realized he wasn't really making that happen.
