Something that I've seen brought up in a few reviews of TMNT's first episode is how ridiculous April's escape through the storm drain is. Storm drains tend to be pretty small, and April is portrayed in the cartoon as being pretty buxom. She slips through without effort, even though she should have gotten stuck. Sure it's a cartoon, but so was Winnie the Pooh and he wasn't able to magically make it out of rabbit's house when the hole was too small. :P
At least in the Archie comic they make it seem like she ran into some difficulty.

The worst thing is there are BARS in the cartoon. Forget the boobs, how did she just... slide through the bars?? If you watch the animation it looked like she pulled a 'Kitty Pryde' and just phased right through the bars.
Lol was pretty funny how she was able to do that. That's old cartoons for you.

Wow, you're right. I've seen the episode several times but didn't think about the bars.

She goes right through the bars as if they weren't there. That means April should have had even less room to squeeze through.
I think the writers missed an opportunity to have a "suspenseful" moment, where April is trying to get away and gets stuck because she was trying to fit through a space that was way too small. She could struggle for a few seconds as the thugs get closer, then manage to slide through the rest of the way at the last possible moment.

I don't know why, but it always reminded me of the scene in the Grinch cartoon when he's slithering around the Christmas tree. They must have similar abilities.

I miss that Archie comic. way back then when I had it--it had a cassette (yeah you heard me) along with it in which voice overs were heard through the comic. you could read and listen at the same time.
The line "I have an appointment with my dentist" was funny heard on the tape.
But still, that image you found of April in the Archie comic brings back memories.

I used to have that tape too. The voice actress for April manages a pretty chastising tone during the "putting on weight" line. As a kid it used to bring up mental images of April literally trying on how a few extra pounds would look in the mirror. :P
