View Full Version : Why didn't the OT incorporate more of the playmates mutants into the OT?

I think the OT would have been better if it had a larger rouges gallery. I get tired of seeing the turtles fight shredder and krang in almost every episode. I'm aware that leatherhead, metal head, rat king and other villains were in it, but I think more villains would have been even better. It's not like the villains would even have to be created for the show either, playmates had a whole stable of unused mutants that could have been allies or foes for the turtles. We could have seen episodes with panda kahn, wingnut, doctor el, montie moose, halfcourt and tons of other guys that were completely ignored. Why do you think they left these characters out? Having them in the show would have boosted sales of the figures surely.

Well, Wingnut did have an episode. I dunno why they didn't use more of them, though.
Who the heck was banda kahn? I can't find any info of him on the internet.

I didn't know wingnut had an episode, which one is it? And it's Panda Kahn, that was a typo.

I like Mutagen Man. ):
He's not a bad guy though.
Tokka, Rahzar, Antrax, and Scumbag made it as one shot villains. Also a huge shame cause I do find them interesting.
Why didn't the OT incorporate more of the playmates mutants into the OT?
There were only 192 eps. Were they supposed to cram 25 guest characters in each one? :P

Ep 135, "ZACH AND THE ALIEN INVADERS"... It's in Season 5.

Tokka and Rahzar had an episode too.Muckman and joe eyeball, Ground chucks, dirt bag and Slash all had episodes too, even if they looked nothing like the source material.

I wish Panda Kahn had appeared in the OT >_>;.....
I always wondered why mutants like Ace Duck (besides the cameo), Sergeant Bannanas, and Walkabout were never in the OT... would have been a heck of a lot more interesting than characters like the Polarisoid. I'm really hoping Nickelodeon uses some of these guys from the old playmates toyline in the new series.

I always dug the other mutants and wouldgrab the newest one I saw on shelves when I was little. Sgt. Banna's got most of my playtime and he fought Dr. El. I know that by the stat cards they where both friends of the Turtles but I had a lot of fun.
I guess my point is that there where so many other characters that never got screentime that would have made great additions. I'm hoping that Nickelodeon will mine the materal that is out there and all the things that have made the TMNT great through the years, put them together and give us a kick butt show.

What episode were Tokka and rahzar in? They could have used a lot of the villains instead of shredder and krang for more diversity.

Just to interject - the word it "rogue", not "rouge". Rouge is the French word for red.
This is one of my main gripes with the OT, I mean they have tons of awesome mutants and characters and yet most episodes just use Shredder and Krang in silly plots, sure I understand that Shredder was the main villain but instead of some of the generic plots they had they could have used the other characters working with shredder. Also I hated that the few non-shredder episodes used a generic mad scientist, jeeze with so many awesome characters to work with why go with generic mad scientists.

Moontie Moose, Hot Spot and halfcourt was too wacky, even for the OT
I disagree, they would have been goofy but the show had goofier stuff. Montie Moose would have worked the best out of those examples, and if made aliens from other planets Hot Spot and Halfcourt wouldn't have looked as goofy.
What episode were Tokka and rahzar in?
"DIRK SAVAGE, MUTANT HUNTER", Season 7...

I was always more shocked when toy-based characters who appeared in the Archie comic didn't even make it into the Fred Wolf cartoon.
Like Ray Fillet and Tattoo, for instance.
Well, there was a fishman named "Ray" in one episode, but I think that might've been more of a coincidence than anything else.

Seems like I remember Ryan Brown talking about how the character in "Rebel Without a Fin" was intended to be Fay Fillet but Brown objected to him being portrayed as an evil villain, thus his appearance was changed into that of a generic fish-man named simply "Ray."

Ah, yes, as "the mutant sumo-wrestling hamster" in Planet of the Turtleoids. It makes you wonder what the writers were thinking.

The generic mad scientists didn't bother me as much as the silly aliens or the stock gangsters. I think they used Shredder appropriately, but it's when they used the goofy aliens and stock gangsters instead of some of the unused Playmates characters for the episodes that didn't feature Shredder that burned my ass.

They were probably stoned.
I have no idea why they did't but they should have. Many of them were, but a lot of the cooler ones like Scale Tail, Wyrm, and Scratch weren't. But Honestly I think many if not all of the playmates toys characters would have worked. Halfcourt could have been a mutant basketball player that had gone to the zoo and touched a giraffe, Hotspot a fireman's Dalmation and Dr. El could be a cursed witch doctor or whatever.

Remember, the old toon had a small rogues gallery:
1) Shredder/Krang/Bebop/Rocksteady/Foot as the main villains
2) General Traag and Rock Soldiers
3) Baxter Stockman
4) Rat King
5) Leatherhead
6) Slash
7) Metalhead (only in 2 episodes)
8 ) Rahzar and Tokka (only 1 episode)
9) Tempestra
10) Grounchuck and Dirtbag (only 2 episodes)
Then the gangsters:
1) Big Louie
2) Pinky McFingers
3) Mad Dog Mcmutt
4) Don Tortelli

It's my personal belief that more Playmates figures weren't incorporated into the show was to avoid the cartoon being labelled purely as an advertising medium to keep pushing the toys. Of course that's what cartoons back then were designed for, but I feel they wanted that fact to be less overt.
