They butchered them.

Completley, they are barely recognizable as the originals

Oh yeah, i knew about that for some time too... i get the feeling the original shows are a lot better..
But yeah, saban remade the plot, changed the actors...it was butchered quite a lot. :tgrumble:
I also had no idea rita was from the original Zyuranger, but of course the saban guys didnt ignored that either as they used stock footage for the rita scenes instead of leaving it like that...
Nooo saban can't just translate the series and leave the rest alone, god forbid!

knew about most of that, and if it makes you feel anybetter most of the shows from lightspeed on have been lose translations from the orignal senti.

Thank god they ruined it. That original is just way too Japanese for me.

Here's another good Power Ranger/Sentai comparsion page:
http://www.rovang.org/sentai/

oh and www.sentaispoilers.com is good for general Sentai stuff.

Most Power Rangers fans are fairly aware of Sentai but for those of you who don't know basically it started way back in the 1970's and eventually Saban bought the show on the cheap, brought in English speaking actors and Power Rangers was born.

Power Rangers is much criticized by Sentai fans for often being a dumbed down version of their show. It's kind of an unfair statement considering Sentai is over 25 years old and PR only 10. Sentai is much more violent then PR could ever wish to be and it would never get past the US censors which is why Power Rangers was created.
Not to mention that it is full of Japanese culture references which would be hard to adapt for western audiences.

Of course, Power Rangers has improved over the years and they've tried to make it more serious like Sentai and less camp like MMPR. These days most of the stories in PR try to be direct adaptations of Sentai storylines but they often miss the spot, usually to fit in line with censors. In Power Rangers you do get better special effect, extra storyarcs, and the Mega Battles to try and differentiate from a Sentai a bit.

That old one wouldn't be any good anyway, it doesn't have Bulk and Skull.

The Dragon Zord was so cool. My favorite part of the entire show was when the Dragon Zord rose from that lake in the middle of town, and just destroyed that whole section of the city. Each time they summoned it, the part of the city was rebuilt exactly the same way as last time. You'd figure they'd think to build a road for the Dragon Zord to eliminate the constant deaths, but noooooo.

I love Dragon Caesar too. And actually I've known about Sentai for years now too but had no idea it was so different from the MMPR until I recently looked it up. It all sounds so cool. I feel screwed!

BTW No show can be "too Japanese". There's no such thing!

I just noticed that there is no black Ranger. But maybe that's all for the better.
