Alright. Yes, this is hawkbit (not hawkbite nick, :P ) from watership down. I am sure some of you on this board would love the book and its sequel, but many of you won't like it, so don't waste your money. This pic is from the tv series they created back in 99, I never saw it but I will....And yes they did create an animated movie back in 78. It is now on dvd if you want it, it is the type of animation I like and it just holds a lot of truth from the story...The top british actors are the voices in the movie too, in the first 6 days it sold more than any other movie in its time, and it continues to do so, so I highly reccommend it, but I'd say read the book first, as it always works better that way...

Have fun!
Mind you it doesn't have the best treatment that it was worthy of unfortunately... It has the original theatrical trailor and some other things, but just the movie is worth it if you haven't seen it... :)

My area sucks for finding cool stuff, and I'm interested in seeing this. What was it about, if I might ask? It's weird because someone else recommended I see the movie last week, so now I really want to.

Watership Down has some really extensive meaning to it. I will tell you some of the basics though... It is basically a tale of courage, leadership, and survival...The hardy band of adventurers (the rabbits) are forced to flee the destruction of their fragile community, going from warren to warren until they get to the place they call home...This is no cutsie movie for kindergartners, the movie isn't recommended for children, they wouldn't understand it and some of the scenes woulodn't be allowed in today's cinema (I like it like this though)... It has some "rabbit mythology" if you will, being that the god El-ahrairah is known as the "prince of a thousand enemies"....it has some politcal references as well each warren they visit has a different type of government I guess...
Led by the visionary Fiver, the courageous Bigwig, the clever Blackberry, and the honorable Hazel, they face daunting challenges, and use their strength and cunning to survive, while pursuing their dream. Along their trek, they make an unlikely friend - a loony seagull named Kehaar - and battle the vicious General WoundWart, the cruel leader of another warren....he'd probably be considered a dictator by us.
Film director, Martin Rosen, frames the tale largely at the eyepoint of the rabbits, so that we identify with each one. Packed with excitement and adventure, it is an engaging, thrilling tale that celebrates traditional values of loyalty, courage, and spirit.
I did copy some of this from the back of my dvd, since it gives a good explanation of what it is about....the book isn't different, it is just much more detailed and a fairly long read too...481 pages! If you don't like to read though, dont read it because then you will think it is stupid, which it isn't. The movie you can watch without reading the book though, for the basic understanding and adventure. Hope this helps! :)
EDIT: Oh, and this link tells you more and a good place to buy it. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005UF84/qid=1050092876/sr=8-4/ref=sr_8_4/103-8786280-4471842?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846

I'll probably find the DVD at some point.
I love to read but lately it's really hard, since I'm usually reading like two books, 4 comics, and three magazines at a time, along with playing video games, working, lifting, and spending time with the little woman... time management just isn't my friend. :|

I watched the movie (78 version) when I was 10 years old. I loved it.
I later read the novell in Highschool and did a research project in English 102 in community college.
I personally would recommend the movie to anyone of any age. Granted some scenes get extremely violent and it does show blood. From what I remember I just loved the rabbits (when I was 10) and rewatched this movie many times.
I'd also recommend to watch the movie and read the novell. I haven't seen the animated series and never knew about it. I'll have to look that up when I get back to the states.

I'm so interested in seeing the movie and/or series :D
And yeah it's hawkbit i always get the name wrong :embarass: ive seen some pictures of the movie and it seems like its kinda violent...but i like that, shows that they dont understimate animation.
I might check the book too if i find it but my priority is finding the animated versions.
I'd probably not get all the political references but the characters seem interesting and my diggable-o-meter says there's a 90% chance that i'd dig it :)

LoL, wish I had a diggable-o-meter..... Yes, the animation in the movie was important, without it people would think it was a little cutsie movie about rabbits... I really reccommend no one under ten sees it, as there are incredibly hard scenes to grasp and of course some things are tough to understand...it is a much different movie than most animated movies...just does a great job putting you right in their place...
Anyway Savanti,
I think you would have better luck finding the dvd there, but of course they would be like region 2 or something....I don't think the show was played in the U.S...except maybe digital or satellite...You could get the dvds on amazon though, (don't know if this is considered advertising... sowwy)
Too bad the main page is down, they had tons of info about the show. Also, you mentioned the 78 "version"...were there others?

I heard about a plan to remake it using newer animation techniques and to update the story more to our time.... I'll have to check, but I meant to emphasise more on the movie than the animated series by defining the year.

Oh really? That is very interesting...if you get any info on it, please post.
Yea, the series animation is so much different than the movie, that one is for more of a younger audience I think...

Watership Down kicked ass. It didnt have Ninjas, Jedis, Robots, or Dinosaurs and it still kicked ass.

I found the DVD actually at FYE today for about 15 bucks, but unfortunately I already spent a ton of cash today. But now I know where to go when I want it.
Something that might interest you also is that apparently there was a sequel, "Journey to Watership Down", starring a couple of the original voice actors from the first movie. The date on the DVD was 1999. Just thought I'd mention it.

It already sounds like a winner.

Nope, that isn't a sequel leo. They only had a sequel to the book, which was "Tales of Watership Down"
Journey to Watership Down is a dvd from the tv series. I hope they release all of the episodes though, I am praying...
