I have always been fond of Donatello. I like how he is witty and also kind of a smart ass at times... I think he should have had a bigger role in the 2007 movie, hopefully he will get more screen time in the new movie...

Classic Toon Michelangelo is my favorite turtle. To me his character is the most likable of all the Michelangelo's in the animated turtleverse. All other Michelangelo's just annoy and embarrass me for the most part due to how over the top writers tend to make him.

Yeah, Leo's actually very popular...I ran a Favorite Turtle poll via "PollDaddy" awhile back and Leo came out on top in that, too. You can check it out HERE (http://poll.fm/wqsi).

What's interesting is out of 82 votes, the results are the same as they are here - Leo and Mikey in the lead, with Don and Raph tied.

I refuse to vote because there isn't an "All of them" button. Sure, I could say Mike since he was my original favorite, but then that would alienate Leo, Don and Raph when I've enjoyed them as "favorites" at some point as well.

Basically, over the years I've effectively liked all four Turtles, ending up at the conclusion that there is nothing wrong with liking all four equally for each one has his own unique traits and characteristics that make him likeable in only a way that is definitively "them".

You are not going to get any arguments from me, but you would be surprised the amount of people who find out I like Turtles. Then of course the first question they ask is, which Turtle is your favorite and I say Leonardo. Which usually leads to them calling him a name, me rolling my eyes at them and discontinuing our conversation.

Though I did threaten some stupid kid in an elevator at a convention once, because he said nasty things about all the Turtles. I was mostly joking at the time though. :D

When I first got into Ninja Turtles when I was a kid, Michelangelo was my favorite and now...well, he's still my favorite. In fact, I think in pretty much any version of Turtles, he's been my favorite though I definitely prefer some versions to others.

My all time favorite version of him is the 80s Cartoon. I find him the most lovable here, and I really like his relationships with all the characters in this version, especially with Leonardo. I also really like his relationship with Kala and with the fifth turtle Zak, though I know a great many people despise those characters. I liked his big-brother attitude towards Zak, especially since I always have considered him the youngest of the 4 turtles. I thought it was a neat touch to have him take on an elder-brother type of bond with Zak, although they didn't show it that much.

I also love him in the movies, especially the first and third movie. I always found him to be either the funny one or the most "human" one for lack of a better word.

In 2k3 I still like him best though, I really wish they had handled his character better. Yes, he tends to be the laid back, fun loving one but that doesn't mean that's ALL there is to his character. I think Season 5 on really did him a disservice in that area.

Ulisa:)

I like 2k3 Mikey. I think, besides the over-the-top jokes (which were very much present in OT Mikey) he was done pretty well.

But that doesn't matter, because Donatello is the best of them all, in every adaption. :D (Waits for the Leo fans to descend.)

At first I was a little taken back by Leonardo being first, but then I thought about it and it does make sense he'd be the most popular. I mean, he is the leader, and I don't know if most Leo fans started liking him in their youth or not, but I think Leonardo would be kind of a default favorite for a lot of fans (especially when one is young) just because he's the leader, he wears blue, he uses swords, he's always striving for good...Leonardo has a lot going for him that makes him an attractive favorite. Like I said Donny's my favorite, but I would say Leo's second. Leo or Mirage Mikey...I don't know, tough call. Raphael would be last.

If I were to rank them, for the original toon series, it would be...

Raphael
Michaelangelo

Donny and Leo would've ranked the same for me.

Now, since I've revisited the series as an adult, it would be...

Raphael and Donny
Michaelangelo
Leo

For the Mirage Comic

Donny
Michaelangelo
Leo
Raphael

For the sake of this poll, though, I'm picking Raph. He's been my favorite for way too long for way too many years.

I don't mean to offend the Donatello supporters, but what was it about the 1987 Donatello that was liked? I mean Donatello's personality consists of him being a scientific genius that always invented things, plus got a PhD in one episode "Donatello's Degree." If Donatello was such a smart scientific genius who has a knack for inventing then why did most of his invensions blow up in his face? Most scientists when they have something blow up, it's because they are experimenting with something to make an explosion happen.

Also when I was a kid back in the day, it did seem like that Michelangelo was the top favorite. Propably because kids see him as the turtle that kids can connect with; fun, party animal, cool, and kid-like. But when those kids grew up and understood personality better, they seem to converted to Leonardo when they realized what his role to the team was about.

Speaking of which, I mentioned it in an earlier reply, but here it goes again. Leonardo is my top turtle. He has been for the past 25 years in every format. This also brings up a positive characteristic about me that I never learned until I got older: loyal and committed. What I like or love or anything I set my passions and intersts in, I stick with it completely all the way forever. I've always been like that. I am loyal to Leonardo regardless of the TMNT format, nothing else.

While Donny isn't my favorite, I think I can handle this. I'd say #1 would be his humor. Donny was always cracking dry jokes, had hilarious reactions to the many wild situations he and his brothers found themselves in, and spoke with a good deal of sarcasm when appropriate. He wasn't JUST a genius, or even truly a "genius" at all... He just did machines. :trazz: As for his explosive inventions, A. look at what he has to work with... scrap from the junkyard & stuff found in the sewer. Not exactly the most reliable materials. B. It's a cartoon, don't read into it that much.

^This. Donatello was the go-to-guy when the Turtles had a problem. he was almost the second in comand of the Turtles. He did also have a very dry sence of humor. Donnie isn't my favorite in the OT (That's Raph Paulsen) but he is my second favorite, and I like him because he's slightly egotistical dispite the explosive inventions, but most of the time is the indispencable Turtle of the group. How often if he's missing do they say, "Man we need Donatello!"?

As a child, Donny for the OT series wasn't a favorite for me. He was just there, but revisiting the series, I can understand the appeal of his character. Donny is an overall interesting character. He even comes across as being the most flawed to me (out of the other three for the OT series). There are many different sides of Donny, like his sarcastic, dry-witted humor (which could rival Raph in that regard), his big ego (imo), his stubborness, his intelligence, his pride, his unofficial leadership skills (come on, he's taken charge many times even with Leo standing right there), the fact that we KNOW he has a dark side and that it was shown is pretty much the icing on the cake for me. Going back to the show, I'm loving Donny's character and how to make up for the whole, "Oh, he's just a science nerd guy", they find other ways to explore his personality or exhibit different facets of it.

Hm...maybe Ninja Turtles 25 Years is not yet acquainted with the way scientific breakthroughs and technological advances work: it doesn't matter how much of a genius you are, even Einstein had to re-work his theories. It takes time, patience, and many test-runs to successfully pump out a working and functional product, and even then it probably won't be 100% accurate or successful or completely "de-bugged." There's always room for improvement. Anyway, my point is that it's not easy to make such advances, even if you're a genius. It has also been mentioned that Donny was around 15 years old at this time, working with scraps he found around the sewers or wherever he was lucky to find something useful. Can we please also not forget that half the inventions Donny was coming up with aren't even physically possible to engineer, even in today's world? The turtle was way ahead of his time! ;)

25 Years, Donny's always been my favorite throughout all incarnations, and it was initially because (then and now) I've always been attracted to the brainy character of the bunch (I've gone into long rants about why Donny is my favorite, you can find them somewhere I'm sure!) Donny always came through with his intellect when the Turtles needed it most. That was my initial attraction to Donny, and it just augmented from there.

Donnie boy FTW
Even if it's the umpteenth time I've posted it. Mikey comes second, with Leo and Raph being tied for last.

When I was "mocking" Donatello's genius-ness, I said I didn't intend to offend Donatello supporters. I was just making a point.

Well said- Donatello has always been my favorite...loved his character on the cartoon, in the movies and his figure was the first TMNT toy I ever had ♥ I thought he was witty- and loved his unique personality + I thought it was awesome that he was smart and not afraid to express his genius...even when it did blow up in his face.

I voted Leonardo because of his discipline, control, honor, devotion, and also for his skills. He is more than just a swordsman. As far as the characters go, he is definitely the most ninja of them all. He could be the next Snake Eyes for all we know. Still, all the turtles stand out in their own way. Think of their popularity like how a song hits number one on the Billboard charts. A song may top a certain chart from Pop to R&B to Mainstream Rock. It can be the same for the turtles if there were specific charts for them. For example, for Comedic, it would be Mikey at number one. For Tough one, it’s Raph. For Smartest or Inventive, you all know it’s Donnie. For Skillful or Team leading, it’s definitely Leo topping the charts. They’re always number one on different charts. Like my analogy?:tsmile: I happen to keep track of number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100.

I do find it kind of interesting that now Leonardo is both the favorite and least favorite character in the polls. He really is just the type of guy you either love or can't stand I think :twink:

He literally has to lead everything, doesn't he? :trazz:

Leonardo's my favorite. As a kid, it was because of the katana blades. As a grown-up... ah, katanas are still cool.

I enjoy the spiritual aspect of his character, too. The irony of a ninja practicing bushido also makes for an interesting dichotomy.

Raph comes in a close second place. I like his approach to fighting. He's a berserker, yet he's not without cunning or strategy.

I remember reading something once about Raphael that I found to be an excellent summary of his character. His bitterness and frustration stems from the fact that, ultimately, he and his brothers will always be alone.

For me, its always been Leo for 3 reasons. He wears blue, which is my favorite color, the swords, and Leo was the first figure I ever got.

Growing up with the cartoon and stuff don was saying my favorite. Then Leonardo. But as I got older and started reading the mirage books and watching the 4kids cartoon. Raphael wayyy took over. He rebels against being told what to do and stuff still pretty much works out for him in the end. And he has a big problem with being led and told what to do. Much more someone I associate with.
