The title says it all: Post a random Turtle fact!

This fact comes from a "well duh" place. I've never been able to pronounce the last name of the guy who does Leo's voice for the 2k3 series, but the other day I was looking at Raph/Rutger's autographs and noticed that he asked "Do you know what my last name means?" and I remember thinking, what a silly question...of course not. Then, as part of my "research" for a project oldmanwinters and I are working on, I was watching the first season of the 2k3 series and I took the time to actually read his name...Michael Sinterniklaas... Sinter Niklaas....Saint Nicolas. Dude's last name is Santa Claus!!

EDIT: Other odd tidbit, his zodiac sign....Leo!

Barry Gordon, voice of Donatello in the 1987 TMNT cartoon, recorded the original version of (I'm Gettin') Nuttin' for Christmas when he was 7 years old. It reached #6 on the charts.

IIRC, she helped come up with the inital story outlines for those first few episodes with her then-husband David Wise.

In 1999, Cam Clarke, Leonardo from the OT, released Inside Out, a romantic / adult contemporary cover album. It had a peculiar twist: Clarke subtly modified certain lyrics to sing under his own perspective as a gay man.

So I pulled this almost directly from Wikipedia...so what!!
Here's the IMBD post:

In 1999, (Cam Clarke) released his album "Inside Out." The album contains various love songs by various artists including James Taylor and Carly Simon reworked and performed in gay perspective.

In the original movie, you can sooo see some sort of wire sticking out of Leonardo's costume when he romps over the Turtles game-board! You know, the part where he's like "I don't think...I know!"

Heck, I forgot Rockwell was even in TMNT. "Check out the east warehouse on Lairdman island." Wasn't there supposed to be a scene in the movie where he gets slashed by Saki...it's supposedly why he's holding his arm during the scene where Shredder "knights" new Foot soldiers

Raphael - Raphael wears the red bandana and is the darkest of the four turtles. He can be short-tempered and anti-social and loves rap and punk music.

The four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are all named after famous Renaissance artists. Michaelangelo should have been spelled "Michelangelo" but neither of the writers had a spell checker when they first created the comic.

For some reason I laughed.

The strange substance that gave the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles their special powers is supposed to be the same substance that gave the superhero, Daredevil, his special powers.

source = http://www.kidzworld.com/article/5610-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-tv-show-facts

Edit:
The name "Splinter" is a parody on Daredevil's mentor, a man known as "Stick." The Foot, a clan of evil ninja who became the Turtles' arch-enemies, is a parody of the Hand, who were themselves a mysterious and deadly ninja clan in the pages of Daredevil.

Funny, don't surprise OT Raph; you'll get a sai to the stomach. ><

Mirage and 2K3 Mikey has Klunk the cat.

I don't remember OT Mikey owning a cat, but he does keep a pet or two in some episodes (Maxwell the fish, Pete the pigeon and Ditto the parrot). He even bought a couple of piranhas (?) as his birthday present to Raphael.

Archie Mikey was given a step further that he can actually communicate with animals, too.

Old Toon writer David Wise wrote for several other series...and borrowed plot elements from them for TMNT.
In the Transformers episode Mircobots, several Autobots are shrunk, and go inside Megatron to disconnect the "Heart of Cybertron." While inside, they wind up in his shoulder joint, hoping Megatron doesn't make any sudden moves. Upon completing their task, as the 3 Autobots escape Megatron as they start to return to normal size, Bumblebee looks back at Megatron and says, "Excuse Us," the exact same line Donatello says as he and Leonardo escape Krang's Body as it starts to shrink.

Hmm... I forgot about that fact. He was recruited by the Guardians in "A Tale of Master Yoshi" wasn't he? I guess Laird and the 4Kids creative team realized there was no way to sugarcoat how the heroic Yoshi would have been a member of a ninja clan of assassins.

Yeah, seemed like lots of folks wanted to create a concept around "three adjectives and a noun."

Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters
Geriatric Gangrene Jujitsu Gerbils
Adult Thermonuclear Samurai Elephants
Ex-Mutant Teenage Samurai Humans (later shortened to "Ex-Mutants")

And then there was "Samurai Pizza Cats," (also ported to America by Saban!) which doesn't follow the formula exactly, but is so obviously a TMNT knock-off!

Oddly enough the voices I hear in this parody are Rob "Raphael" Paulsen (who does this a lot...see Animaniacs Hooked on a Ceiling for Paulsen parodying TMNT..again.) and Jim "Leatherhead" Cummings. Also Jim Cummings is an alternate Shredder, so he is doing a parody...of himself.

Archie Mikey was given a step further that he can actually communicate with animals, too.I know there was an ep of the OT series where Mikey was befriending a cat. At least that's something that seems to be apart of all the Turtle mediums, right? Mikey being good with animals. When do they start doing this for the Archie comics? I just started reading those and am new to that particular series, but I'm not far into it. No pets or anything yet for MikeyAnd then there was "Samurai Pizza Cats," (also ported to America by Saban!) which doesn't follow the formula exactly, but is so obviously a TMNT knock-off!Not particularly a knockoff. Saban just dubbed it and made it crazy because they didn't have a real script to work with and made up most of the stuff. Not complaining, I loved the show with its bad puns and jokes, even the "Turtle" reference in the intro. lol I like the original Japanese version too...where they're not Samurai and the storyline isn't as comedic as the dub made it and didn't break the fourth wall like the dub did. What about Immature Radioactive Samurai Slugs!?

The later part of season 2 of the 2k3 series introduced us to the only songs in the series that weren't the theme song, Midnight Run in City at War Part 1 and It's a Jungle Out There in April's Artifact. Both were kinda lame, so thankfully these were the only non-theme songs.

Speaking of songs and Turtles, anyone know who the singing voices of the Turtles were for the Coming Out of Their Shells tour?

Speaking of Hamato Yoshi, in the Archie comics (like the Fred Wolf cartoon, Yoshi became Splinter), as a young man witnessed the nuclear fallout of Hiroshima.

Guess I'm trying to figure out how old he was here, it was implied Yoshi's in his teens during WWII... so in the Archie timeline (90's) he'd be in his 50-60ish?

He would have been early-60s at the youngest. Splinter states that he was 15 when the first atom bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945 in Hiroshima, which would place his birthday somewhere around 1930. Assuming the Archie time-line set itself in "real time" (like that exists in comic books!), the turtles' Japanese adventure took place in c.1992 (the year of issue #29's publication). Using that logic, I'd say Splinter was 62 at this point in the series.

I remember one issue celebrated Splinter's birthday, but does anyone know the exact day of birth?

On the back of the cards for the playmates fan club flyer turtles it says "Be a mutant turtle! Join the turtle team fan club! See details inside!" These original figures obviously have the fan club flyer and the soft heads. However in the later releases (hard heads) the same info about the "details inside" is still present on the back of the card. Which means that Playmates never bothered to change the card backs after the original wave. Its kind of funny thinking about a kid in the 80's opening a non fan club flyer figure looking for the "details inside" to join the club only to find just the figure and accessories.

Splinter calls Donatello his son in Donatello's Badd Time. He also tells him he will inform his "brother Turtles" about his modifications to the Turtle Van. Sadly though, Splinter is voiced by Townsend Coleman and not regular voice actor Peter Reneday, though Townsend does a very good job mimicing Peter's Splinter.

When Eastman & Laird introduced the "Utroms" in issues 3 & 4, it was really a not so subtle parody of Marvel's criminally-insane sentient robotic villain, Ultron.

http://marvel.com/universe/Ultron

Some TMNT fans, however, tend to write "Ultrons" or "Utrons" when they really mean "Utroms." :P

Really though, the only similarities between the Utroms and Ultron are design of their robotic bodies they use to get around on earth:

Here's something for you. I was watching the ep Combat Land and noticed something interesting. Leo wanted to go to the Japan land (to test his ninja skills) and Mikey wanted to test out his skills in the Medieval zone. Raph and Donny wanted to hang out in the future world. I found that ironic because of the Archie comics, and how cor the stories involving the future turtles, it mostly focused around Raph and Donny. I didn't catch that when seeing it earlier.

I think I mentioned how earlier in the series, I said Leo & Donny, Raph & Mikey, but for the later part, I liked Leo & Mikey, Donny & Raph because of their similarities, especially with the way Leo and Mikey were still for fighting to save humans while Raph and Donny weren't during those H.A.V.O.C eps, and despite what others say about the Red Sky eps, I actually liked that storyline and felt that it was warranted.

In his last 2 seasons, David wise seemed to split the guys up a lot...and it seemed that it was always Leo/Mikey and Donie/Raph.

EDIT: You know, people (myself included) balk at seasons 9 and 10 since they have Dregg and "Not Shredder and Krang" but Krang and Shredder are in a good chunk of season 10....3 of it's 8 episodes. Heck, 16 episodes with Dregg ain't so bad when you consider the eariler seasons had mad scientists and mobsters every other episode.

As I mentioned earlier, seems Donny and Raph were paired off quite a bit in later parts of the comic.

What got me was late season 7...which has some strong episodes, but also plays like a Playmates toys commercial. Night of the Rogues had Scumbug and Anthrax's only appearances, why? Probably to sell toys. Dirk Savage: Mutant Hunter has Genghis and Napoleon (What ever happened to Attila and Rasputin? They don't show up as much as the 2 frog who got toys.) Tokka and Rahzar, and Mondo Gecko. Heck, if you look at some of the other mutants you see what looks like a female Halfcourt among others.

In the booklet for Metallica's Master of Puppets album, in the 'thank you' section, they give a shout out to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And if I'm not mistaken, that album was released in the mid 80's, before Turtles-Mania really hit, so these guys must've been aware of Mirage vol.1.

Doesn't Raphael (I think) mention the title song to the album in the "49th Street Stompers"?? When they first see the street gang at the start??

Master of Puppets was released on March 3, 1986. The original series debuted in 1987. The 1st 6 issues (plus the Raph one-shot) were released at that point...though 6 was released in February, so it may not have out when the album's liner notes were written.

Volume 1 is one of the few monthly TMNT comic books that actually finished it's run. Most (if not all other books) have been cancelled abruptly, sometimes without even finishing the story arc (Vol. 2,3,4,Adventures,Mighty Mutanimals, Turtle Soup,Tales Vol.1,2).

Despite the Turtles often having unbelievable adventures, none of them believed Leonardo when he told them of his adventures with Usagi Yojimbo. It wasn't until all the Turtles were magically transported to aid Usagi that they believed him.

While there are a lot of differences between Krang and the Utroms, his design was based on the Utrom's first appearance from issue #4 of volume 1.

Rick Veitch's Bloodsucker makes appearances in TMNT Adventures. Except he is more cartoony and his name is Wyrm.

For some reason, Playmates made very few action figures after characters from the original toon and for some reason, the original toon didn't use many of the Playmates action figures... For a show originally created just to sell toys, they sure didn't advertise them.

I was reading my e-copies of Archie and noticed something. In issue 62, Donnie picks up Mikey at a Turtleco owned and operated orphanage, called Gabrielle's Orphanage. You think it's a nod to Casey's dead wife, who left Shadow an orphan?

Also in that issue in the back up Angle in Time Square in the first panel there is a man with glasses and a green hat, that looks like he could be a caricature of Peter Laird.

No. It's a nod from an April story where on new years eve 1999 the angel Gabrielle reportadly appeared and April was trying to prove it false despite miracles happening.

Yeah, it's an obvious "in-universe" reference to the April O'Neil backup story. Still... I think it's highly likely that the Gabrielle reference eventually traces itself back to the Mirage books. Every now and then you see little homages in the Archie books to the Mirage stuff.

It was actually stated during a dialogue that went like this:

Leonardo: April you better stay put, its TOO dangerous.

April: Are you kidding? Danger is my middle name!

Michaelangelo: I thought your middle name was Harriet.

Considering after that April didn't say anything, I assume Harriet IS her middle name. As a name like that seemed too random to be anything else.

Splinter also calls Leonardo "his son," in "Leonardo is Missing" from Season 6.

There are a couple of more times OT Splinter calls the turtles "sons":

There is a second time Splinter calls Leonardo "my son" in "Bebop and Rocksteady Conquer the Universe" (Season 4) when he tries to use his "ninjtsu mind control" as Splinter calls it.

Splinter also calls Donatello "my son", in "Donatello's Duplicate" (Season 5) as Donatello fixes the clone machine.

The reason Rob Paulsen was fired for Season 10 is he suggested having a raise for himself and the rest of the cast and they didn't like his demands. At the time Paulsen was also voicing a lot of other characters in cartoons over at WB, so the conflicting schedules probably didn't help.

In Turtle Tracks, all the Turtle voice actors, save Townsend Coleman, can be heard before their Turtles appear on screen:
Rob Paulsen is the spokesperson for the technology company that was robbed and the camera man, Cam Clarke is the sound tech and Rocksteady (of course.), and Barry Gordon is Bebop.
Peter Reneday and Pat Fraley also voice characters before their primary roles appear on screen:
Pat is Vernon, a role that would later go to Peter, and Peter is the Professor who studies Ninja...could he be the proto Dr. Miller from IDW's TMNT?
