View Full Version : Do you think the Nick cartoon will last at least 150 episodes?

Both TMNT cartoons lasted at least 150 episodes, (4kids series ended around episode 156, the original series 193), so what do you think?

Since Nick owns the franchise they will no doubt be giving the show star treatment and promoting the hell out of it. I can easily see them treating it as their flagship action cartoon, where we'll most likely get 7 seasons out of it.

I personally can't see Nick spending $60 million on a franchise just to give it a standard cartoons length of 65 episodes and calling it a day. I know Avatar ended around there, but that show was always intended to have an ending and not go on forever.

You're delusional. That standard 65 episodes (or less), can keep toys, videogames and merchandise sales afloat to cover that 60 Mil and then some in syndication.

This thread's ridiculous anyways, we haven't even seen concept art yet! This show might not even deserve to exceed 13 episodes.

Did anyone honestly think the 4kids show would go on as long as it did, especially since it was never really a hit with kids and aired on an obscure block with little advertising?

Part of me wonders how much of the longevity of the 4kids series could be attributed to Laird trying desperately to keep it alive.

I've betting on "under 50." But, of course, I hope I'm wrong!:tsmile:

I'd say a large part. And it really did seem like 4Kids had more time, money, and people invested in the show than any of their other properties, which for the most part were dubs of anime or very low quality animation stuff (compared to TMNT anyway).

Who knows...if the show is not "good Turtles" it'll probably end after a couple of seasons, but if it can find it's fan base, them it might. Heck, who'd have thought Sponge Bob would last 100+ episodes? If the Turtles can straddle the line of action and comedy well, and find a fan base of not just kids, but maybe their TMNT fan-people parents, it may have a shot.

I expect the standard Nick-season-count of 20 eps. I believe I even read somewhere that this is what they're shooting for. So, it would have to have eight seasons to pass the 150 mark. I wouldn't doubt that Nick would even beat a dead horse that long (worst case scenario).

I'm going to give Nickelodeon a fair chance and see how well they do before making any rash opinions.

Normally Nick shows have 20 episode seasons per year, however Power Rangers might get 40 this year. As or promotion did you guys see how Nick pimped out PRs? A lot of it had to do with Saban but I'm sure TMNT is going to get major pimpage from Nick that even outshines the one PRs had/has, PR is the #1 action show with kids again, that'll be a great lead-in for the turtles. I think the show has a chance of running longer than standard 65/52 episode standards of the industry, however I'm not sure if it could last 150 episodes. No matter how bad it does I guarantee it will get at least a standard 52 episode run. In the early 90s Nick did stick to the standard run but in the late 90s and through out the 00's if a comedy show is popular they'll continue making new episodes, sadly classics like Rocko and other early 90s Nicktoons didn't get that treatment mostly because Nick hadn't changed their policy at the time :(

The only reason the 2k3 series was kept going was because it was on a channel that had nothing else to put on.

Also who cares how long the show goes on. Let's see if the thing is any good first.

I'd rather it be a shorter amazing series than a long series that goes on for the sake of continuing's sake.

Of course, a longer amazing series would be great, too!

The responses here are not realistic. Nick wants this show/movie/franchise to be a major hit. They're not going to treat it like a regular show.

The 4kids series never had particular great ratings, the toyline floundered by its third year, the 2007 movie didn't do great in the box office, and the videogames only sold decently at best.....yet that iteration of TMNT lasted 7 years.

If the 4kids series could have a 7 year and 156 episode success despite never being truly popular outside of the TMNT fandom, you can bet a show airing on Nickelodeon owned by the company itself will last just as long or longer.

It doesn't matter how much money they paid for the Turtles or how much they throw around to market it and hype it up, people may not respond to it.

The nice thing Nick has on its side right now is all of us OT kids is now/are nearing 30 years old and having kids of our own, so the nostalgia factor is high and it's a great opportunity to reintroduce the world to the corporate Turtles.

The positive thing the Turtles have going for them is the fact that a major conglomeration owns them now and has the resources to properly market them and has some fans actually working on the show (and hopefully able to contribute input). Hell, I wish they'd switch Ken Mitchroney over to Turtles and hire Murph, then we really would have TMNTA on TV!

YOU are not realistic. They'll make most (if not more) of the 60 million back with profits from the first movie alone. Anything that comes from the TV show is just going to be bonus.

Yeah, it seems like they "want to make a huge hit out of it", but when you read a press release that says "Yeah... we bought this franchise for a little bit of money and we're gonna make some episodes, video games and toys, then re run the hell out of it and call it quits. Might be some cool stuff in it."?

ToTheNines is right, $60million is spare change to a company like Nick/Paramount and a lot of movie companies spend more than that on movies that don't even get off the ground (Tim Burton's Superman Lives for example).

How long it runs depends on how good it is and, perhaps more importantly, on how good the movie is.

If the movie flops then the TV series will have to stand on it's own. It could run 1 season, it could go on for 10 seasons, it'll depend on the ratings.

If the movie does well and gets sequels, then even if the series does badly and gets cancelled after 1 or 2 seasons, you can bet they'll try and re-vamp/reboot when the sequel(s) come out.

But there's also the possibility that if it does well (like Avatar), even if they end the series after 52/65 episodes, they will do a sequel series.
