I just noticed that there will be released an UK version soon:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtles-Forever/dp/B004PG9GB4/ref=sr_1_18?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1299620033&sr=1-18

Anybody know whether this would be the exact same version as the US release?

Of the several sites listed, three say, "79 minutes". That second link even rephrases as, "1 hour and 19 minutes (approx)". It appears that the distributor (http://www.bmcomedy.com) is an independent label that specializes in stand-up comedy DVDs. Also, I found that three of these sites claim that it will be available on the 4th of April. However, ten of them say the 18th, so that's what I'm banking on.

ONLY the UK?

Well, now, gosh dern dadburn it!

If it's an independent company, doesn't that mean that they don't have access to the original, high-quality uncut scenes? Will they be using the awful, stuttering version on the 4Kids website?

AFAIK, that's how it would work with unlicensed releases, but any licensed distributor has to get their source footage from the rights-holders. Them being a non-profit organization is probably key for getting over whatever hurdles prevent the uncut movie from being released otherwise.

I really hope this is the uncut version, I still haven't seen it due to the 4kids site not letting anyone outside the US view it.

I'm so glad I have a region free DVD player, I've needed it just for TMNT!!
Season 1 - R2
Seasons 2-6 R1 (season 5 was originally R4 but the US release had Ninja Tribunal)
Season 7 R4
Turtles Forever R2 (currently R1, but waiting for the uncut version...)

Great news for the PAL folks, still not so great for me.

Did anyone ever find out what the deal was with the "Turtles Forever" preview that's supposed to be on the new "Spongebob Movie" blu ray? I've been keeping my fingers crossed that maybe there'd be something to that.

I'm not sure. When I got my blu-ray player I remember reading that even if you did manage to unlock it and make it region free, the next patch/update would just restore the region lock. Not actually tested this though.

A lot of companies these days don't region lock their blu-rays though (I know WB's are all region free) so it's not as much of an issue as it once was. But that won't help you with the DVD as pretty much all DVDs are still region locked and your blu-ray player won't play them if they're not from the "correct" region.

TheCanadiandrome
03-10-2011, 03:55 PM
doh! so it don't matter than

Chris
03-10-2011, 04:32 PM
Sadly not.

At this point I'm only buying UK Blu-Rays with the occassional import that I know is region free (like WB's animated DC movies), and my old multi-region DVD player is still set up so I can play all my Region 1 DVDs.

I'm hoping that the 2012 Nick series will be on region free Blu-Rays, if not then I'll be sticking to imported R1 DVDs.

Abnormal Freak
03-10-2011, 04:37 PM
Yeah. Even if you get a region-free Blu-ray player, there's no guarantee it'll play all DVD regions.

Though I think Oppo made a Region A Blu-ray player that also acts as an upscaling region-free DVD player that probably also converts a PAL signal to NTSC (on DVDs at least; don't know if it would apply to PAL format standard definition special features on a Blu-ray Disc). They were going to make it a region-free Blu-ray player as well, but the Blu-ray Disc Association were dicks about it and said Oppo would lose their license if they did that. The BDA are very strict about this sort of thing, not allowing multi-region players; the only region-free players I know of are ones made in China or someplace, free of the BDA's reach, and maybe some licensed players that have a secret workaround method of doing away with the region coding restriction.

It's all balls if you ask me, but a lot of foreign BD distributors thankfully don't put a regional lock on their discs, or at most only lock out Region C. I've got some UK, German, Italian, and Australian BDs that play perfectly well on my US PS3. Sadly, though, some UK companies releasing BDs that I'd like to have always lock their discs to Region B, like Disney and Optimum. (Dumbo has been on BD in the UK for over a year now, with still no word on a US release.)

Chris
03-10-2011, 04:58 PM
Yeah Disney seem to be one of the few that always lock their discs, even with back catalogue releases.

But then again Disney seem to be one of very few companies that still stagger their cinema releases by MONTHS rather than days/weeks, which at least explains why they lock the newer titles.

And then there are some even stranger cases where a disc that's region free in the US will be region locked for it's later UK release (or vice versa).

Thanks for the info, I might look into that Oppo release if region locking becomes more of a problem for me in the future. I could use it to play US Blu-Rays and all my multi-region DVDs (I probably have as many US DVDs as UK ones).

GK Punk

how does one find out if their Blu-Ray player is region free?

Do a search for your exact model name and "Region unlock code" a lot of them that are locked have codes that can be used to turn that off.

I've never heard of an American produced cartoon that gets better releases in other countries than the U.S. itself. Its like bizarro world.

Quick question. so its a region 2 DVD. i've had expereinces with "region 2" and for what i know, the audio for anything region 2 tends to sound a little different and by different i mean a little high pitched from the regular audio we hear in America. So the question i have is, will that be the case for this new DVD release or will it play in the regular audio like it should?

Spider-Man TAS and X-Men TAS was released in UK. R2's SM is great in sound & picture and exclusive to DVD, and R2's XM episodes was in chronological order even, unlike the R1's (though I'm not sure about sound/video since I don't have them).

Hmmmm, I may just get this, too. My DVD-player isn't region-free (it's Region 1, actually), but I'm thinking that my comp just might be, as when I checked the nVidia settings (under the "enhancements" tab), the dropdown menu read like this:

NONE
PAL
NSTC (or whatever the letters Region 1 players (DVD or VHS) is)

So I'm just crossing my fingers that all that above is a good thing, as far as playing NON-Region 1 DVDs is concerned, but we'll see.

I bet money this DVD will make bigger sales than the American release. Maybe it'll change Nick's mind to release the uncut here if the UK makes more money then them. also i know it'll play on my laptop cuz my laptop (and portable region free DVD player) plays region 2 DVDs but i know it wont work on my blu ray player for obvious reasons. i'm just hoping that the audio will remain the same and not be so high pitched like some region 2 DVDs.

Oh, really? Wow. Live and learn, I guess. Heh, I gues that I just assumed that since it had a "PAL" setting that that menat that I could play NON-Region 1 disks. As I said, live and learn, huh?

And will do, bro. I don't have any non-Region 1 DVDs yet, but, given that it will probably take Viacom/Paramount (or whoever) forever and a day (or longer:trazz::tgrumble:) to get around to releasing Season 3, 4 and Back to the Sewer (Season 7) of the 2K3 TMNT series, I'm seriously looking into the possibility of getting these (as well as the UK "Turtles Forever" release from foreign sources (i.e., the UK or Austrailia; etc.). Just a matter of seeing whether they'll accept my debit VISA card overseas, as well as getting the cash together to put on the thing.

Also, something else that I just thought of: my two youngest nephews are always wanting to borrow my TMNT DVDs, so, if I do go this route, I'll have to stress, very, very VERY strongly, that they watch any non-Region 1 DVDs in my room, on my comp. I just get the VERY bad feeling that my bro (their dad) would not be really happy with me if those Region Whatever disks messed up their DVD-player, OR the boys PS2, and Yours Truly would be seeking a very secure hidey-hole.

Like on Mars, or someplace.:tlol::twink:

Wonder what the face of the disk will look like, though? Plain grey, like the North American release had, or with some kind of art, like the Lionsgate OT Toon and the 4Kids 2K3 Toon DVD-releases did? Just have to wait and see, I guess.

I'm thinking maybe Nick DID get the info that about the Full Version AND the better poster DVD cover back before the first DVD's release, but the DVD was already too far in production and they were too lazy to change it. Thus, we got the cut version with the lousy cover. Since production on the UK version didn't start until recently, they obviously had the uncut version and the awesome poster to use already and decided to use the favorable options for that version. Whatever the case, I'll definitely be importing this. It's about time Turtles Forever got a decent release. :D

I think Nickelodeon had the uncut version, the poster, everything and more. But instead of diggin' around, they lazily slapped a recycled 2K3 poster on the cover and the cut version on the DVD. Then they made their menu (which probably cost them half a penny to make) with the recyvcled 2K3 art. :tgrumble:

Longtime lurker here, extremely looking forward to this release. (Already pre-ordered it!)

I thought I'd register to clear up the confusion regarding UK and Region 2 DVD's. (Which will give more of you the chance to import this!)

As a previous poster mentioned, most DVD players will play Region 2 DVD's, or they have an unlock code available online that you can find by googling your players model number.

In regards to PC DVD drives, they do indeed have region locks on them, but you can get around this by watching your DVD's with VLC. VLC is a free program, like Windows Media Player, that can play almost any video format. Just pop any region DVD into your DVD player, open up VLC, and you'll be able to play it without having to change the region code on your PC drive.

Hopefully this helps a few of you with your decisions, and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask =)

Just order it, its only one dvd. I thought about this too but we could be waiting forever, back then i thought 4Kids or Nick would release the season sets but that didn't happen so i had to shell out a lot of case for the Aussie releases. Since this is just one dvd, its definitely worth it.

Why, if ever? The first DVD was probably too far into production for Nick to change it.

The fact that they actually are having the movie re-released in another country through a different company shows they know their is a complete version.

gobo
04-17-2011, 10:06 AM
And, that different company being a non-profit organization rather than the UK branch of Paramount (who normally handles all of Nick's releases in the UK) suggests that this release is wrapped in red tape.

Wonder what the face of the disk will look like, though? Plain grey, like the North American release had, or with some kind of art, like the Lionsgate OT Toon and the 4Kids 2K3 Toon DVD-releases did? Just have to wait and see, I guess.

(Thought it would be nice if someone who gets this posts a pic of the disk-face for is, once they've got their copy. Hint, hint, hint.:twink:)

Honestly, at the Nick event did anyone ask them what their plans for the 4kids series was? Like when its going to air on Nick? Or if any DVD sets will be released?

No. We didn't ask. You know why? Becaus that wasn't what the event was about. Why the hell would we ask about old content only you care about on this level about, when the entire day was about the new show?

Besides, we were trying our best not to come off as tremendous douchebags. Not that you'd know anything about that.

Nick spent $10 million specifically on the purchase of the 4kids series. Quite a bit of money spent on an old show if they weren't planning on doing anything with it.

Likewise they know fans would be happy to spend money on DVD sets.

It's stupid, I know. They could at least have allowed 4Kids to continue airing and distributing 2K3 episodes until the 2K12 show started airing (it'd make sense if Nick didn't want competition between 4Kid's show and theirs).

Great, I suspect a U.S. release over here too.

I think the first DVD was just too far into production at the time for them to stop it. They likely just released that one quickly for kids to make some quick cash.

The fact that this release has:

- Uncut
- Widescreen
- Cover art
- Disc art
- All the bells and whistles

Suggests they really put effort into this. The only extra thing I would have loved was an interview with Lloyd Goldfine from 4kids, but that's probably too much to ask for.

I'm about to buy it just because the cover is better. I might hold out for the AU release. If it gets a second US release I'll be surprised. Since Paramount is handling the Australian release instead of "Best Medicine," I'd say it stands a strong chance of being released over here. Why would Paramount go through this trouble to release a complete DVD in countries where the 4kids series wasn't even that popular?

Was there ever a version of "Turtles Forever" released in the UK or Australia like what we had in U.S. before this new, uncut version was released? Because I have very little hope that we will get this version over in America. Nickelodeon knew of the full version well before they decided to release their half-assed version in the States, so I doubt that they would go through the trouble of issuing an all new version for the few completist fans who want it in America. I think they have a "it's good enough" mentality about the whole thing. Of course, I would love to be proven wrong (and would happily purchase this uncut version IF it did get a Stateside release) but right now I think the chances are small. What I REALLY want more than anything though, is the rest of the season sets for Season 3, the first half of Season 4 and "Back To The Sewer".

To me I don't care, i'm not going to wait. Is it worth it to wait 2 years or more and hope it comes to the US when i can buy it over seas now? We are talking about $20 here, its not worth it to me to wait years and years. I was hoping they release a season set for 2K3 but we all could be waiting for a long time.

Movies get re-released on DVD all the time. The first release was obviously a quickie just done as quick cash grab for either little kids or older fans who would eventually have to double dip.

Why didn't they just release the same cut version in other countries? They didn't have to put any effort into it, nor did they have to use the correct box art, etc. It was all done because they realized there was an uncut version out there and to do it right.

I hope so, didn't Avatar do this with there dvd releases? I still think it was a mistake by them to piss off fans by doing a half arse release. I think it costed them.

Not really. Cameron told fans if they wanted the full release to skip the first one, the studio wanted to release that. Plus he re-released the movie in theaters. Avatar is a bad example because it's the highest grossing movie of all time, made almost 3 billion box office. TF doesn't even amount to 1% of that. It's such a niche movie and really only made for hardcore fans.

Nope. It's an 81 minute movie and a few menu pages. Not enough content to require a second layer...

TheSkeletonMan939

There's a lot Nickelodeon could have done to make it a dual-layer DVD disk.

*The uncut version of the movie in widescreen
*A menu with a little animation (like the screen panning around the menu image) and background music
*A scene selection menu with background music
*A menu with all the trailers and teasers for the movie (like the ones on 4Kids.com and The CW4Kids) with some background music
*A behind-the-scenes thing at least explaining why Ch'Rell was frozen and off-world

And, just for the record, this:
http://www.movieposterdb.com/posters/10_01/2009/1543920/l_1543920_4247bf0c.jpg
as the DVD cover, and this:

I'll one up you. Just like the DC DTV movies do, have it come with "Lloyd Goldfine's picks" and have episodes like "Exodus", "Shredder Triumphant", maybe "Secret Origin" and "Turtle Tracks" as bonus features.

Unless Paramount AU is non-profit, then I'd bet it will be the TV-edit. So, I thank the tight-lipped Viacomers for allowing us the opportunity to purchase the superior UK DVD, but I still wish it came with ANY extras. Like I said before, the only way I'd ever double-dip now is for relevant bonus features or a Bluray transfer of the uncut film.

Question(sorry if this has been answered. I just scanned and couldnt find it): Does this release still have those annoying fade to blacks in random spots?

Like the scene in the sewer where the OT Turtles are like "Oh yeah?!" And 2k3 Raph goes "Yeah!" then it fades to black for like 2 seconds, then it fades back in and continues the scene.

I get a feeling this will get a US release later this year to coincide with the debut of the IDW comics.

Why? Lionsgate is finally continuing the OT DVDs, and I think the IDW comics might have paid ads from Lionsgate for the release.

Just imagine people out of the TMNT loop for years, they pick up the comics, see the uncut Turtles Forever in stores....lots of $$$$ for Nick.

The lip sync has always bothered me on this. Either it was exported weird or it was just animated badly. When I was first making a DVD of the uncut version off the 4Kids site I kept noticing it. I thought it was sync drift at first and tried to fix it. But not matter what the lines were still off and none of them went on perfectly anyway.

Just checked over at AussieBay. Details are that it has the same boring cover as the American DVD, it's Region 4 (of course), 16:9 enhanced (like the UK's), 81 minutes (also like the UK's), PAL (duh) and it was released by Paramount. The thing exclusive to this release is that they gave it subtitles... in THREE DIFFERENT LANGUAGES no less: German, English & Dutch.

My question wasn't if it exists, but if the TV edit was that bad about it. I'm thinking 4kids/Viacom/whoever might have adjusteded these issues for broadcast because I honestly don't recall it being so obvious in the TV edit.

I posted this nearly 2 years back (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?p=1340366#post1340366) so I'll just quote it here:

Well, the purpose of the recording is for the crowd response, not the movie audio, and this is probably the only recording available, ever. Thanks to Roseangelo that we even have this!

Which is why I'm returning the favor to the fanbase, spending hours cleaning up the audio and keeping it in sync with the video frames (sounds straightforward but it's a very tough and tedious work, requiring tons of technical knowledge and very good hearing), and hoping to share with all of you, considering the effort I have put into good use. I'm not using this for any commercial purpose, just sharing for free.

However I do respect Roseangelo's view that it is not appropriate for the full length video to be made public on the internet, in the open, just like that. I also just noticed the full copy of Turtles Forever that had been on YouTube for several years was already taken down too. I guess these things have been taken more seriously now that Nick owned the entire franchise, including Turtles Forever.

I own an original Turtles Forever DVD which I legally bought from Australia, therefore it is uncut and completely identical to the SDCC 2009 version. This is why I was able to obtain the complete footage to match the audio recording frame-by-frame. Regardless I still do not own the rights to the video, nor the audio from Roseangelo. I may get myself into trouble too if I share it openly.

That being said, I am still willing to share the video to anyone who wants it. I simply wish to make my effort worthwhile by having more people enjoy it. Please leave me a PM if any of you wants access to the content...

So yeah, if you're really interested just leave me a PM ;)

It was the stupidest thing I ever heard of and probably the only example of a tv movie being released on DVD instead of the real version. Most movies cut parts on TV due to time limits. But when you buy the movie itself, you get the real version. This is the first time I seen a movie cut for tv, and then the DVD is the cut tv version instead of the real deal. It even has 'fade out' scenes for when the tv version had to cut to a commercial. Even though the original movie didn't have any commercial breaks. I mean, they really dropped the ball here. Can you imagine buying a movie, any movie, on dvd or Blu-ray and finding out you got stuck with the tv version?

I mean, a whole season of the show wasn't even released on DVD in the US. They have the power to do that and release season sets or, hell, even a complete series set. I know a release like that is a big deal, but you know what's an even bigger deal? Overcomplicating it by releasing pointless 3-episode discs instead of just giving the consumers what they want.

It's 8 minutes, I thought?

As per Wikipedia:

1987 and 2003 Donatello work together to locate the Technodrome using underground sonar while riding in their van, which they eventually locate.
2003 Shredder asks to see the trans-dimenstional portal device during his initial tour of the Technodrome.
Karai reveals that she located the Technodrome because her monitoring system for 2003 Shredder had alerted her that he had been transported from his previous location to the Technodrome. She then claims the Technodrome in the name of the 2003 Foot Clan.
1987 Krang and Shredder commiserate about 2003 Shredder ruining their expensive computer equipment in the Technodrome during its renovations.
As part of the renovations to the Technodrome, 2003 Shredder programmed the computer to now utilize all of his extraneous superlatives when it addresses him.
2003 Raphael calls the 1987 Turtles "clowns", which causes an argument. Splinter yells at them to stop bickering and reminds them that they should be working together, causing 2003 Raphael to apologize for the insult.
2003 Casey and April have an extended fight sequence with some enemies who are attacking them.
The 1987 and 2003 Turtles argue about whose Shredder is worse, calling 2003 Shredder "psycho-evil" and 1987 Shredder "decaf".
2003 Leonardo gives a more complete explanation regarding the 2003 Shredder's plan when they initially meet up with the Prime Turtles.
1987 Shredder yells at Rocksteady and Bebop before the Turtles' assault on the Technodrome in Turtle Prime starts.
Karai warns 2003 Shredder that he is making a grave mistake as he attempts to destroy the Turtles, which causes him to pause briefly before being hit by a barrage of exploding throwing stars.

Overall it lets certain scenes breathe a little bit and adds some explanation and context to the plot that make it all kinda work a bit better.

Having seen both, the unedited cut is definitely the one to watch if you have the option.

I think of all those scenes the biggest offender is the Karai scene. Without it, it really does look like 'WTF how did Karai find the Technodrome' without there ever being any sort of explanation.

Also stuff like one of the Mikeys (I forget which) tricking the mutant hyena into running headfirst into a lamppost or fire hydrant or something like that was even shown in the tv ads for the show and was never shown in the tv version. That was already enough to let viewers know some scenes were missing.
