View Full Version : The Nick version of the origin story

How would you like the origin to go for this new show, I'd do it the way it was shown in the movie, Because there really isn't a whole lot you can do with Oroku Nagi

i think it might kinda have the same story from the begginning, but who knows, they could bring in a 5th turtle again or 6th, haha. I think it would be cool.

Well I'm more of a fan of the OT origin, a rat learning ninjitsu while in his cage is pretty out there even for TMNT standards. Also while Splinter may want revenge it doesn't give a lot of incentive for the turtles. That is one thing the OT did great so an amalgamation of both of them. Oroku Saki was jealous of Hamato Yoshi since he had the woman he loved and he was going to become the head of the foot so he kills her and frames Yoshi making him go into exile. Because of Shredders Mutagen Yoshi becomes a rat and now the Turtles have a real reason to want to go after Shredder, to try to cure Splinter and because of what Shredder did to him.

I never liked how the turtles drop the subplot of trying to make Splinter human again in the OT, that was a big part of their motivation in S1 and S2, I think the plot is dropped after Splinter becomes human for a day and decides he doesn't understand that world anymore but while at least it got a half-assed explanation it still sucked.

I sure hope they use OT Splinter's origin story. That made a lot more sense then what sdp just said. I don't think becoming a mutant though would cause that much revenge to kill someone.

If anything they will just fight crime because in a cartoon world, that is the right thing to do.

There's also a lot of cool things you can do with Splinter story-wise if you have him be a man turned rat. The OT/Archie only really focused on that for a small handfull of tales.

I suppose that could work, But you would have to elaborate on how Shredder got the mutagen and if you want to put Krang and the utroms into the mix

I like the original origin the best. I think that if it was all around a cycle of vengence then it could continous spawn a sense of urgencing in fight, but! sense this is NICK I am betting it is going to be based around the OT

I am going with the OT angle as well. It(well in cartoon standards)is more plausable to have Yoshi and Splinter be the same charater. As said before, the whole Spliter was a rat learning ninjitsu moves from his master was a but much.I can sort of understand why in the first live action movie they went the route of the comic. They probably didn't have the buget or the technology to make Yoshi's Transformation look believable.Just my take.

Considering that story info we've gotten so far has stated something about "discovering the secrets behind their origin" I'm guessing that TCRI might be involved. Just a hunch, though.

Well how would have Splinter: OT version or Mirage Version or have Nick combine the 2

I'm hoping for the origin story to mostly be the Mirage one. In that Shredder doesn't have to be the cause of the mutation (but he could be) and I prefer Splinter to have been always been a rat rather than a human who was turned into one. Though it's a bit more believable that a human turned into a rat would know ninjitsu than a rat would learn it as a rat... I guess. Oh and April isn't just a reporter.

Basically my preferred scenario is as follows:

Krang is an Utrom who was banished to earth who eventually meets Oroku Saki who is a very powerful man and the head of the Foot Clan (or at least the American branch of it). The two form an alliance due the mutual benefit of their resources.

Utrom chemical waste is the ooze and that could be from the scientific advances of the Utrom's hiding on earth or perhaps the chemical waste created from Krang's own experiments.

Splinter is the abandoned rat of Hamato Yoshi who was killed by Oroku Saki (I think they'll be able to have reference to death at least) and flees to the sewer where he finds the turtles in the ooze.

April is a scientist working with Baxter Stockman who defects when Stockman begins working for Shredder and Krang and she meets the turtles while trying to escape from Stockman. She aids the Turtles at times with her technical expertise. April's best friend Irma works at Channel 6 news.

After confronting the turtles at least a few times, Krang suggests that Shredder create his own mutants to fight them and he creates a number of mutants from animal experimentation with the chemical run off he discovers was the cause of the Turtle's mutation. Bebop and Rocksteady are the first but not the last. I'd like to see this new series have several mutants, many of which re-invisions of pre-existing mutants from the franchise. Including of course, Slash but not right away. He could make for a good secondary villain in a future season.

The ooze also finds its way to other places creating mutants all over the world. Some friend, some foe.

Casey Jones meets Raphael on a night when Raphael is feeling particularly moody and the two butt heads at first but quickly become friends. Casey is a bit extreme and not exactly welcome in the Turtles layer.

Between Casey and April the turtles can keep tabs on the surface world when they need to.

This is great, but I really prefer April as a reporter, Besides doesn't Shredder kill all known masters of the Foot making him the only master?

I got it, I got it! Non-Splinter related, but...

How about if Nick made the Turtles HUMANS before they were mutated into turtles?! The ooze can be created using reptile DNA and once exposed to humans, who knows what would happen...kinda like what happened to Hun in "Turtles Forever"! Yeah, that would explain their muscular bodies/limb proportions that uncannily resemble homo sapiens sapiens!

...ok, I got carried away.

Honestly it would be something different an completely new, but. I don't think it would have worked for TMNT, unless nick would have gone for a X-Men ripp with Ninjas!

But I wouldn't mind seeing something like this in a DTV with other alternative stories or takes on TMNT when the new movie comes out.

Well I'm more of a fan of the OT origin, a rat learning ninjitsu while in his cage is pretty out there even for TMNT standards.

How? We've been told that the makers of the movie were putting some thought into making Splinter learning Ninjitsu more plausible. The easiest way would be what Laird suggested in the comment section of his blog when the subject came up. The mutation simply awakened those memories in him.

While the image of a rat doing martial arts in a cage may seem laughable and out there certain rats have been trained to do acrobatics and in Japan no less. For all the things Eastman and Laird got wrong about ninja and japanese lore they unknowingly hit on something that could slightly be true.

A study even found that acrobatic rats have more synapses per Purkinje cells in the brain so for those that cry realism there ya go. Not that a cartoon needs to be realistic. Splinter as a rat just seems to work better. It's simple and I like that something so big came out of something so small.

I can sort of understand why in the first live action movie they went the route of the comic. They probably didn't have the buget or the technology to make Yoshi's Transformation look believable.Just my take.

Clearly they went that way because that's the comic origin. Why would they make the movies plot faithful to the comic and drasticaly change such an important part.

It wouldn't have been hard to show a Fred Wolf based origin, ever see Teen Wolf? They way they actualy showed the origin they could have easily skipped over it. Although the visual of a ninja master living in clean storm drains and mutagen instantly transforming the turtles into teenagers is a little...farfetched.:twink:

I am sure a rat learning ninjitsu and mimicking his arm and leg movements to replicate that of Yoshis shares the same realism and holds up to reality just like your so called "acrobatic" rat... So much more realistic then a actual human being having knowledge about it, and retaining the information when turned to a rat. No, that would be silly. :P

I agree there is a huge leap between my example of acrobatic rats and Splinter mimicking Yoshi's movements I just felt the need to point out that it's not quite as unrealistic or "out there" as most fans think.

(Within the context the already unrealistic and out there nature of turtles universe of course)

Speaking just for myself, I want them to stick to their origins as set down in the Mirage Comics, with Splinter as Hamato Yoshi's pet rat, Shredder should stay humanand April as Baxter's assistant. The reporter thing got on my nerves after awhile...especially after I read the Mirage comics.

Also, NO Krang, Bebop, Rocksteady, The Technodrome; etc. Usagi, I wouldn't mind seeing again, provided that his character is closer to the one portrayed in the 2K3 series, and not the one from the OT, and provided that Nick/Viacom can work out a deal with Stan Sakai.

Basically, I, like a lot of the other members around here, want the production team and writers to start from scratch, like the OT, as well as Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation and the 2K3 series did. NO rehashes or combinations with earlier series. Other than that, I don't care what Nick does; just so long as the series is good, and lasts several seasons. If all that happens, I'll be one happy Mousey.:twink:

In the comic, Yoshi killed Oroku Saki's older brother Oroku Haki and Saki vowed revenge, because of the fact that Yoshi killed another member of the foot, he had two options, commit suicide honorably or flee from the country, you can guess which option he chose, Saki followed him and killed him in America along with his woman. To avenge his older brother the entire time was the point of killing Yoshi which I found a better plot point instead of just jealousy to the point where he would stalk Yoshi around the world.
