Hey guys, thought I'd share what I've been up to for the past few months, putting in hours when I can..

There were afew recent threads about dismantling the NECA figures, and also what color paints to use as well. Hopefully these that I've been working on will answer those questions. You can be the judge, but I think I've got the skin tone colors pretty close to the '88 toys, and here is a list of the paints and the mix guides I've done for myself...

Paints are "Vallejo Game Color" (Acrylic)

Donatello = (50% Camo Green 50% Beast brown) + (Charred Brown until colour)
Lichen Purple x Royal Purple

Leonardo = (50% Camo Green 50% Dark Green) + (Small amount of black) + (charred brown)
Magic Blue x Stormy Blue

Michelangelo = (50% Scurvy Green 50% Sick green)
Hot Orange

Raphael = (50% Goblin green 50% Scorpian green) + sick green until colour
Gory Red + hot orange

First is the skin color, and then underneith is the bandanna color.

Shell colour is 'Scrufulous Brown', and the back is, black paint, with a coat of 'dark green' on top.

The best advice i can give about mixing paints, is go slowly. Add small parts at a time, and mix REALLY well. (Use a cocktail stick, as mixing with your brushes will just decrese their life span.) And do test mixes with small amounts of paint and just experiment, before you make a commitment to adding different colors to your main mix.

Also, brushes are expensive so you wanna make them last. If your brush gets all spread out like a witches broom stick, it means you haven't been cleaning them properly. If you don't clean them properly paint gets dried deep into the bristles.

Anyway, enough talk, here's the pics!....

(EDIT) Also, the belt buckles were made by glueing 10mm buttons together, and filling them in with apoxie sculpt. Sand, then paint.

Well to get those pins out, you will need a knife, and something like a small round file, or a screwdriver to put pressure on those pins to pop em out. They only come out in one direction, you will see both ends are different sizes. You want to put pressure on the small end. Also the knife is useful to start it off. Its hard to describe the process, so just get a knife and use your imagination. :) lol You need to get the pins out somehow.

The rest of the bits just pop out of place in some hot water after you soak it afew minutes, usually quite easily. But if you still feel alot of resistence, take it slow.

Just be careful where abouts you're putting pressure on the figure, whilst pulling heads off or something, that you dont rip the neck joint apart, or a shoulder when pulling off arms.

The shell-back, just keep pulling and twisting.

--------------

Also on paint rub..

You will need to file down the parts where the paint is rubbing, and after paint is completely dry, you will need to spray them with a clear sealant. You want to look for the stuff thats matte. Not gloss, unless you like stuff shiny... Give a thin coat or two with that, and you will see a huge improvement.

Hope that helps.

Haha :) Yeah they certainly have. Raph and Don are the only two remaining, of the four figures I got when I was 3 years old (1989). I used to like eating my turtles too! lol:roll:.... So thats why the hands and feet are kinda messed up. My original mikey got lost in a supermarket, and all throughout my childhood I had the original raph don leo, and then had to settle for wacky action mike to complete the team. :( Not good. Leo eventually fell to bits near the end of his life, but I managed to pick up mikey and leo at a school fair when I was about 11, I was over the turtles then, but bought them for like 50 pence each! :)

Good luck with your figures, post some pics when you're done! ;)
