View Full Version : Does the 4kids series now have the unfortunate, "middle child" syndrome?

When the Nick cartoon starts, the 4kids series will be sandwiched in between the original series and the Nick cartoon. Thus it will be the, "middle child" of the TMNT franchise.
You know how things in the middle are often ignored or forgotten. This coupled with the general publics not even being aware the 4kids show ever existed, makes me wonder if this will ironically become the least well-known TMNT show outside the hardcore TMNT fandom.
I mean 10 years from now, who is ever going to be aware the 4kids series existed but us hardcore TMNT fans?

If you think about it, the Nickelodeon series could fizzle out down the road and the franchise could be sold to someone else, resulting in a fourth animated Ninja Turtle series.
It's kind of like Spider-Man if you think about it. People my age remember watching the 90s series that aired on Fox, but older people remember the 60s series from before, wheras kids today will remember the more recent (sadly short-lived) Spectacular Spider-Man, and now there's another Spidey series in the works.
Also, can anyone even count how many different Batman and Superman cartoons have aired throughout the decades?

I think the "middle child" will always be "Next Mutation".

No, that's more, "swept under the carpet like a huge mistake and pretend it never happened," type of syndrome.

Ultimately I don't think it matters due to the quality of the series.
Look at how many series Batman has had in the last few years (The Batman, Brave and the Bold, a new CG series coming) and yet everyone still remembers Batman: The Animated Series.
Same for series like Gargoyles, people still remember it today due to the quality of the series (and I think the same will hold true for Spectacular Spider-Man in a few years).
Sure Fast Forward and BTTS might be forgotten (like people manage to forget The Goliath Chronicles series of Gargoyles) but the main series I think will be pretty well remembered.

Think about it - it aired on a popular station for seven (!) years, and Nickelodeon had Turtles Forever a few times. I think it'll be remembered for quite a while.
I think it will be remembered

I think unless by some miracle we get some extremely gritty comic accurate cartoon down the road the 2K3 series is going to be remembered if for nothing else, that is was the series most closely adapted from the original stories and I also think in the future some people may seek it out for that reason.

The 4Kids series will be remembered as the Ultimate TMNT series. The most true one out there, it wont be topped.

i dont think it will be forgotten. i think people will look back at it from the two movies that came out during 2k3's time. when the new movie (and movies later on) comes out
but it wouldnt really be a middle child because they are two different animation styles. if you excluded next mutation because it was different from the other two then you should exclude 2k12 series.

I can see this too, the only way 2K3 would get top is if they did a Mirage comic book version of the series. But it be impossible to do on a kids tv show especially with Nick. 4Kids definately pushed the envelope with this show, that i dont see being pushed for a long time. But it be cool seeing a series of the Mirage characters, the same guys that were in the Forever Movie.
