We can't let the best Turtle not have his own thread when his brothers do! :P
While I like all the Turtles pretty much equally now, I'll admit Mike was my initial favorite so he still holds a special place in my heart just a tad more than the others.
Anyway, yeah, Mike typically gets the short end of the stick when it comes to be taken seriously as a character, but has a lot to offer the group in terms of the support and love he has for his family that often goes overlooked because he's usually seen goofing off or acting stupid (2K3). He's been shown to be the most able fighter, but he lacks the discpline and focus to want to hone himself to the best fighter - he probably sees battle like a game so he has fun with the situation at hand while also figuring out what to do to survive. There ain't no extra lives or 1-ups in those games!
Mike also seems to be a lot more intelligent than any of his brothers suspect - but it's the right-brained, creative intelligence so it is rather understated except for the times we've seen Mike writing.
I'm trailing off here....mind....losing focus....

I love Michelangelo , without his humor I probablly wouldn't have enjoyed movies as much as I did as a kid.
I remember being a kid and jumping on my dad and doing an elbow drop yelling " you want a pickle " i'll give you a pickle "
lol. Mikey definantly isn't the best fighter or strategist , but he can hold his own , and he's essential for the team.

lol Good one. :trazz:
Mikey is a lovable character. And unlike what seems to be a majority here, 2k3 Michelangelo has gotta be my favourite depiction of our favourite nunchaku-wielding green mean machine. Mirage Mikey left me indifferent. OT Mikey was ok I guess. The 07 CGI Mikey was overwhelming. Too much derp derp moments.

OT Michaelangelo was always my favorite when I was kid, and I feel like such a traitor sometimes because now as an adult I sometimes like the other turtles more, lol. But ultimately Michaelangelo represents the essence of the Turtles in a lot of ways and he was sort of everyone's favorite back in the day because he was like a little kid and we could identify with him. :tsmile: But even more importantly, he never become too overexposed or completely take over the franchise, like say Elmo on Sesame Street (Grrr). It very easily could have become "Michaelangelo and the Ninja Turtles" but thankfully they did manage to keep a balance most of the time. ; )

For Mikey I can only say this:
"I’m the one they call Michelangelo
Let me kick my story, just say so
Born like a pet, just like the rest of them
I grew up wild, party with the best of them
Living loose, living large
With my humor, now I’m in charge
It’s not that I’m crass, not that I’m rude
It’s just that I’m a naturally humorous dude
Turn up the volume, baby let’s pump it
I see the Foot Clan, man you know I thump it
Cowabunga is my favorite word
I use it all the time, or haven’t you heard?
I’m out of control, wild and crazy
Hazy, maybe a little bit lazy"

"All the good ones end in O"
:tgrin:So that's why Raph is the angry one! He felt left out because Splinter gave the others names that end with an "o", thus, showing that Splinter favors them over him! lol
Thinking about it now, I wonder if that was intentional...as a way to show that Raph is the independent one of the four and seems to stray away from the others.

I love teh Mike! He's the most "human" of the TMNT.
Leo is like the crust: He carries everyone
Raph is like the sauce: Trying to spice up everything.
Don is like the other toppings: He's there to enhance the team.
Mike is like the cheese: He keeps everyone together, even if he's cheesy at times...

I also love the 2k3 Mikey, and he's definitely the cheese. One of the best fighting sequences is Mikey in the Christmas aliens episode. Plus he's easygoing, and has onion layers and all that.

I definitely like a nice blend of Mirage and 2k3 Mikey. The Mirage would balance all of the over the top jokes of 2k3 Mikey. But yeah, I really like 2k3 Mike, despite a lot of negative feedback he gets. I especially like the relationship he has with Raphael in the series. I also appreciate Image's Mike - actually, he's the only one they didn't maim, so maybe that's why. :P But seriously, he was given a lot of depth in that series - I love how he kind of told Leo to shove it because he was working on his book (which had become his career and passion) and couldn't go out searching the sewers with him.
OT Mike...I suppose you have to love him?

Top 5 reasons I like Mikey.
5). His skateboarding skills. He could challenge Tony Hawk anytime.
4). Having his pirate radio show, The Sewer Hour off Next Mutation.
3). Playing the guitar & singing in COOTS.
2). Brilliantly voiced by Wayne Grayson & Greg Cipes.

Mikey is the turtle that everybody can relate to. Mikey may be laid back but can hold his own in a fight pretty well. Mikey was a beast in "Enter the Shredder" but started to dwindle when his chucks were replaced with the grappling hook. But Mikey in Next Mutation was so intolerable that he makes 4Kids Mikey look like Leo in comparison.

I never did comment or do much in this thread. The reason I liked Mikey (as a kid), was because he was loveable and human. He was the most playful one as well as sympathetic, imo. He was also "mondo" cool and could get away with using all of that slang which I heard outside of the show anyway.
I also like the fact he was the sensitive, innocent character, he was the one who had all those human-like crushes too and even wanted to know what it would be like if he were human. He got a taste of it. Seems it was easy to just feel a bit sympathetic (or empathetic in this case) over his situation. Of course, for that, I'm approaching this as my adult self, not as a kid. Either way, like others said, most everyone could just relate to Mikey the most since he was the youngest (probably, since in all mediums, he is treated as such) and seemed to want to find his place within the group. He's definitely the "Ma-ti" of the group, the heart and I'm assuming that's what most liked about him (for the OT series anyway). He was also very good with kids and animals.
Now for Mirage and Archie, I like him a lot for the Mirage comics. He seemed to have a decent amount of focus. I felt he was gypped in the Archie comics. I felt that both he and Leo weren't focused on enough as it seemed that the attention would get put on Raph or Donny. I like the fact that both mediums, though, point out his creative side.

I totally agree with you. Mike often gets the short end because people view him as being not as intelligent or as serious as the other turtles. He's the "immature one" (at least that's what some of my friends who are also TMNT fans say about him). However, I've always loved him because he was lovable, laid-back funny and friendly. I could see myself befriending him over the other turtles. Don't get me wrong, I mean I don't know if it's only me but I find a bit of myself in each of their personalities but I admired Mikey's the most. He may not have been the most intelligent of the bunch but he had/has a big heart :)

Oh man... I can't believe I missed the Michelangelo thread! He will always be my number one turtle on my list, no matter how dumb and annoying he can get.
In my opinion, he is the closest to being an ordinary human teenager. He loves pizza, parties, video games, comics, movies but most of all, he seems to be the only one who wants to get closer to humans, interacting with them and just fit in the society. What I really admire is; even thought he is a mutant turtle and well aware of it, it doesn't seem to stop him at all from trying! Heck, I don't think he needs to try with his charming personality.:tlol:
I know he's someone I'd invite over during my birthday party or for Christmas... heck, I'd invite him over just because I'd want to hang out. play games and have fun.

He makes the introverted Donatello more out going.
He makes the angry Raphael more easy going.
He makes the up tight Leonardo more easy going...in a different way. :D

I would agree with this. Although in 2k3 Donny was called the 'glue' of the team I would think that title could be shared by Mikey, too. I see them both as the 'glue' perhaps because they are less intense on the whole as opposed to Leo and Raphael.

Raph and Mike will always be tied for me for fave turtle. But I loved Mike first since the OT.
Mirage Mike is my favorite version. I really relate to his creativity and wanting to be a writer. I hope the Nick show makes him funny without being a total goof and also able to kick major butt as much as his brothers. To draw another Nick parrallel, portraying him something like Sokka from The Last Airbender would be good.

I've wondered about that too; their relationship is one of my favorite things about the early comics and I've always felt that after Raph met Casey things shifted between him and Mike. Hopefully since he's met Casey first in the IDW booksm once he's reunited with his brothers he will form a special bond with his "little bro". :tsmile:

Here is a funny little tidbit:
I find it quite interesting that both Townsend Coleman and Robbie Rist are associated with "jumping the shark" of their respective shows before becoming Michelanglo. Coleman was Corporal Capeman for the final 10 episodes of Inspector Gadget, and Rist was YES, Cousin Oliver for the final six Brady Bunch episodes! I guess they were surfing over sharks between episodes and saying "Cowabunga! Your show sucks, I wanna be a turtle!"

I would like to say (since apparently I didn't in my initial post in this thread, or my mind has just changed since) that the 1990 original movie Michelangelo just might be my favorite incarnation of the character. He comes across as a very fine blend between Mirage and the OT - he is light hearted and a jokester, but he is indeed serious at times (most notably during the punching bag scene) and he knows how to shell out one heck of a beating. His intensity during the fighting scenes (the last rooftop battle with Shredder stands out to me) is admirable. I'm so thankful that despite Mikey being (arguably) the face-of-the-franchise funny guy in the OT the script of the 1990 film kept the Michelangelo from the comics intact - I'll bring up the punching bag scene again - what a gem amongst comic enthusiasts, even if only on screen for a few seconds.

Seeing how I never gave any thoughts on Mikey in this thread, I might as well share at least a little input.
My favorite Mikey's in order:
1. Image/Vol.3 for his development. Fatherlike babysitter, writer, hopeless romantic, just an all around really great person. Not stupid.
2. Live action film version for the fact that he was the funny guy but not as over the top as his OT counterpart. Had some real emotion.
Plus his head was beautifully made in the first flick.
3. OT Mikey. 'Cause c'mon son, he's the man. Everyone secretly loves the surfer dude.
4. Mirage version. Only due to the fact that he's not as retarded as the ones past #4. He's cool, maybe a little bland, though.
5. Next Mutation. Not too bad, but not "right". Writers' fault, I guess.
6. TMNT/2k3. Just off totally. Didn't like him much in either. He was like the dipsh*t hyenas from Lion King. Over the top ridiculous, hardly ever serious, trying so hard to be funny but never quite hitting the mark, hyper, constantly bearing teeth, monkey hoppin', annoying his brothers, bragging about his minor accomplishments, etc. I did like that he was heavily into comic books, and had Klunk, but these things were pulled from other universes, so...

The '87 series was the definitive take on Michelangelo, the laid back and athletic heare t of the TMNT. He is the cloeset to a normal teenager of the four of them as well. He was fun loving and bright yet gullible at times as well. Townsend Coleman's voice will also be Michelangelo.
I felt like the '03 series made Michelangelo look retarded at times and the other slapping his head for saying something stupid seemed uncalled for. I will always like Michelangelo best but I can't say I appreciate the way he was handled here.
The movies bring out the '87 toon Michelangelo in a Mirage-like world while the Mirage Comics emphasis he is the heart of the team that keeps them together.

In my humble opinion, Michelangelo's appeal is his youthful innocence, heartfelt sympathy for others, fun-loving personality, and his optimism which for others, can become easily soured with the trials and hardships of life. I think he reminds people of their more simple childhood or one of those friends you know/knew where their personality has such a magnetic personality that no matter how boring the event may be, people always have a great time being around him. People who are able to maintain that type of optimism and bright outlook on life as they get older and despite experiencing intense hardship is actually very admirable to me when its too easy to fall into despair or cynicism.
My favorite depictions of Michelangelo are the OT and 1st movie versions because he's still thoughtful while not being ignorantly optimistic. Probably the most annoying versions are the 2K3/TMNT (2007 movie) because they had to make him "stupid" to be funny and fit the more stereotypical interpretations of the notion "unusually optimistic = mentally deficient", and thus making him have no substantial depth to his character and, more importantly, not exploring the meaning behind WHY he still maintains his joy for life when his other brothers can easily fall into pessimism or discouragement despite all of them experiencing nearly the same fighting battles.
OT version of Michelangelo was actually normal in terms of intelligence with hints of emotional clairvoyance, because rarely did he ever do something "stupid" or "foolish" looking back on those episodes that would jeopardize the Turtles' missions/safety. I'm sure Michelangelo would have been seen in a more favorable light in terms of his intelligence, if these three factors were changed: 1) The surfer slang was gone, 2) Wasn't obsessed with pizza, 3) Raphael wasn't constantly teasing him.

Now here's the thing. A year or so ago had you asked me my favorite Turtle I'd have said it was Raphael. I always liked his hotheadedness and sarcasm. But Raphael became my favorite only in recent years. As a kid in the days of the OT my favorite was Michelangelo. I loved his humor and how he seemed to be the most sensitive Turtle. He was the heart of the team.
When the new TMNT figures came out, the Nick Figures and the Classics I had a choice to make. I don't have much money and I had to try to spend my money wisely. I couldn't afford all four Classics and all Four Nick Turtles. I chose to get the four Nick Turtles and one of the classics. I wanted a complete set, but my monthly toy budget wouldn't allow me to get a complete set of the Classics. I got the four Nick Turtles because it was cheaper to complete the set. I could only get one of the Classics and I was working under the assumption that I may not be able to acquire the others. I was correct in assuming this because the Classics have been sold out here for months.
So I had a choice to make and I had to make it count. Initially I was going to get Raph, but then I began to think back to my childhood and how much I loved Mikey back then. The Classics are all about the nostalgia factor. I realized that though I loved Raph, Mikey will always have a special place in my heart as my childhood favorite. It was only fitting that I choose Mikey. Classics Mikey has become one of my favorite posessions. He's become sort of a lucky charm. He travels with me everywhere, in my pocket or in my backpack. He reminds me of happier times. When it comes right down to it I love all the Turtles, but Mikey will always be special.

I see Classic 25th anniversary figures still online on sale if that gives any reassurance... In my opinion, I would have bought all the old Classics FIRST since the show is less familiar nowadays and probably has a shorter time period for selling compared to the Nick figures that will probably be there for a few more YEARS because of the ongoing current series. Hope you are able to complete your collection of all the Classics figures!

OT version of Michelangelo was actually normal in terms of intelligence
I agree with this. As far the animated ninja turtles goes he is the most normal and grounded across the board.
with hints of emotional clairvoyance
...you are going to have to explain this one to me. In what way did he ever show any "emotional clairvoyance."
because rarely did he ever do something "stupid" or "foolish" looking back on those episodes that would jeopardize the Turtles' missions/safety.
I would like to agree with you but There is one episode in red sky (cry HAVOC was it?) where he was really acting distracted and dumb and put the turtles at risk and screwed their mssion more than once. I don't know the eff his deal was in that episode...:ohwell:

...you are going to have to explain this one to me. In what way did he ever show any "emotional clairvoyance."
At least with what I've seen with the OT (not too extremely knowledgeable with other versions):
I guess "Clairvoyance" is too strong a word, but for sure a keen intuitive ability to emotionally relate and perceive another character's intentions/heart (or see the possible "good" in someone) from their perspective even when the other Turtles at first are turned off by that character's actions. What's more impressive is that there are times when he's able to put aside the emotional spats of someone, even when they are directed at him, and focus on the emotional condition causing that spat. (I've met a few people with this capability and I guess that's why I used the phrase "hints of emotional clairvoyance" because its remarkable how sometimes people have an uncanny ability to immediately put themselves in someone's shoes and not get offended by that same person despite how many numerous times.)
But on the other hand this ability and desire to help comfort someone can blur into almost a blinding optimism that can create his greatest weakness in that he is the most susceptible to being deceived.
But what makes him alluring still is that he would be the first Turtle to wholeheartedly to forgive you and still give you another chance again and again. Of course Leonardo would too soon afterward, but his reasoning is founded more on principle/teaching rather than Michelangelo's ability to emotionally relate.
I would like to agree with you but There is one episode in red sky (cry HAVOC was it?) where he was really acting distracted and dumb and put the turtles at risk and screwed their mssion more than once. I don't know the eff his deal was in that episode...:ohwell:
As for that one episode, I was actually weighing that when I wrote it earlier and it seemed too out-of-character (OOC) because it conflicted too much with how he was depicted in the first 7 seasons. I mean why would he be so interested in reading a comic (I think that's what it was) in the middle of a battle, to the point that it jeopardized the safety of his own brothers? :-? Then what was really OOC was when Leonardo (I'm trying to remember) harshly said that Michelangelo wasn't a part of the team because of it. Understandable? Yes, but extreme compared to how many chances he gave to Carter and in earlier seasons, the borderline irritating Zach character.
Those were just a couple of several reasons why the "Red Sky" episodes were disappointing in my opinion. Then again the whole "Red Sky" had transformed the nearly the entire tone of the series. It was too action-focused that the charming character interaction/dynamics of the series were thrown aside.

Like Leo and Raph, I just ignore Mikey on the original series, until the 2k3 show came out. Mikey is the soul of the group with charming personality. My favorite episode of him is the "Christmas Aliens" when he finds Klunk and fights a bunch of thug so they can't steal a van full of toys and at the end all those toys were given to the orphan kids. That is so adorable of Mikey. I'm currently reading the IDW comics and in volume 4, Master Splinter described Mikey like this: "Michelangelo is a kindly soul..." "His empathy for others is virtue, not a flaw" " He simply seeks out the goodness in others that is so innate to himself" "He wishes only to love...and be loved"
Lovely description of Mikey.:tsmile:

I think the 2012 version of Mikey is fast becoming my fav. I really love the 2k3 version too but there's just something about the way Greg Cipes portrays him. I think the 2012 version is very innocent. He wants to be pretty much everyone's friend. I like the fact that he often forgets that he's a big talking turtle. This incarnation of Mikey knows he's different and he embraces that. I'm thinking all the other incarnations do as well but Cipes stands out to me at present. One of my favorite eps in season 1 of this show was New Friend, Old Enemy. Mikey loves the idea of reaching out to humans. He loves it so much that he seems to forget the fact that he's so different. Sometimes I wonder if this is the first times he realizes how different he is and just how scary that can turn out to be. Greg Cipes made him sound so horribly bewildered and hurt when Chris Bradford betrayed him. I got the feeling that Mikey often forgets that most people would probably run screaming from big talking turtles. I think this has to be one of the saddest moments in the new show. Some of that innocence is stolen in a way. He realizes that yes indeed, he is not like everyone else. Maybe it's one of the first times and hopefully only times he feels like an outcast. At least I imagined him feeling that way. Very torn up as well when he says to Bradford in that heart-breaking voice,"I... thought we were friends." You never really see Mikey this way in many of the animated universes. But of course he bounces back from that and just unfriends the guy on the Net. He doesn't want to hunt the guy down and beat the mess out of him. He's already got his revenge. That's another reason why I like Mikey so much. He doesn't let bitterness and the fact that he is different rule his life.
Sorry about the rant. And the weird dream he tells the guys about in Operation Breakout has to be my fav Mikey moment in the 2012 series thus far. It's just the way Cipes delivers that last bit of dialogue about the clown. I just about died laughing and so did my fiancé.

Mikey is awesome. No other word for it
if you asked me 2 years ago which Mikey i liked best, and i would have said 2k3 Mikey. Now, if you ask me, my favorite is 2k12 mikey.
I think i like him the best because of all the things blindturtle02 said, but also because he doesn't try to be funny most of the time, but because of his naive nature, he comes off being really funny. The moment that always comes to mind is this bit:

These bits also made me laugh quite a bit. Yeah he doesn't even have to try to be funny. I think that's another thing I like about this version. He's one of those types who seems to emanate humor without even trying. To paraphrase Charles Dickens' character Fred from A Christmas Carol, he goes throughout life with a grin on his face.

Mikey has always been my favorite turtle. When I was a kid, he was the first character I had a crush on, which even as an adult I think was weird when I think back on it. I just always loved his personality.
Favorite version is hands down, OT Mikey. I think this Mikey had a great balance: funny but not forced, sensitive, capable of holding his own but still remaining humble, and he did not feel like he was "the littlest one" I feel this Mikey could take enemies on without help if he had to and was equally talented with his brothers. I could easily see myself making friends with him.
2k3 Mikey I like as well but I really think they dropped the bomb on him in the later seasons. I actually see this Mikey, much like his OT self, as having not as much confidence in himself as he gives off. I think this version of Mikey's arrogance is much more cover than substance.
I do love "Grudge Match" but I found it pretty cold that only Leonardo agreed to help him. I always found that pretty cruel, though I can see what they were trying to portray. I just don't think it worked very well. I do wish that the episode "Grudge Match" had ended his bragging though. However, I can also see his championship as the one thing he has over his brothers, who can probably make him feel insignificant at times. I see a lot more potential with this character than what was actually achieved.
Nick Mikey I like fine but I really hope they develop his intelligence. It really irritates me that Mikey is often displayed as the "dumb" one. I don't think he is, I think he has a different way of viewing things than others but he isn't dumb. The whole A versus B team also bugs me. I would very much like to see both Donnie and Mikey show they have just as much ninja skills as their brothers at some point. However, I am giving this Mikey some more time. I want to see what they do with him in Season 2.
The Movie Mikes, with the exception of Movie 4, I like equally. As much as most people hate Movie 3, I liked it. I liked seeing Mike's sensitive side, his emotional side really become a focus. One thing I have always loved about Mikey is that he is, for the lack of a better word, the most human of the turtles. Seeing that get limelight was awesome.
I thought I would post this short video of Townsend Coleman from 1989 that has him as a guest on a commercial break type show called Kids Land that used to film air in Northeast Ohio.

Mikey has always been my favorite, too, for all the reasons others have stated, and because he is, hands down, the most "teen-like" of the four, and the most likely to be comfortable around humans. I see him as the "friendly" one, the one who would go out of his way to make others happy. I like that about him.

Mikey is my 2nd favorite Turtle and i'll be here all day if I were to rant about what I like of each version so I'll just mention my favorite which is Movie 1.
Being My first exposure to TMNT I fell in Love with Donnie, mainly because of the color Purple being my favorite. And dug around my older sister's room and found Shreadded & Splintered on VHS. I watched that tape to oblivion and begged my mom to buy me another copy, before we got the Donatello & Raphael VHS.
For awhile I didn't have a 2nd favorite Turtle until I turned 12 and found the 2K3 series, instantly falling in love with the series again and with being older able to choose which Turtle I liked more. That when I saw Movie 1 on DVD and bought a copy and watched that sucker. Of course being younger I didn't realize how adult the movie was compared to the OT and 2k3 (until later seasons).
But man I loved that Mikey didn't really seem like an idiot the 2k3 version made me believe. He was silly of course but he actaully had other layers to him that weren't always present even in the OT. In the opening scene with the Turtles Mikey is seen in the background grabbing a phone book when he feels Splinter is giving another lecture to the group. Its only until when Splinter mentions he will die one day that he actually pays attention, heck he starts to look away solemly before Splinter finishes speaking.
Then the scene with Donnie. where he was asked about what he thought of the whole situation, My favorite scene for two reasons. 1. My favorite Turtles share a scene togethor 2. Don is so conflicted and afraid he consoles with Mikey who instead of chatting with him on the subject. Doesn't want to think about it if he doesn't have to so he blows him off. I mean despite being played for laughs thats actually a pretty sad scene.
Next is the Farmhouse where Mikey actaully doesn't tell any jokes until Raph is concious again. Until then he wondered off doing god knows what. Even with Raph back his chipper additude still is missing a little. Then came the meditation scene with Splinter were everyone is relieved to hear Splinter's voice again and Mikey finally lets his bottled up emotions loose. Once he feels Splinter is alive Mikey is all quips and laughs again just the thought that Splinter is out there was enough to bring him out of his depressional state.

In real life, my personality would be a balance between Raph and Mikey. I do my own thing, but I do like to have my fun and just be laid back and chilling with the friends/family.
But most of the toons had him so irritating. Maybe if I wasn't spoiled by his 1990 counterpart, I would have been more tolerable, but that's just not the case. 1990 Mikey was actually fun, smart, witty, and could hold his own quite well, and didn't let off some ridiculous girly scream when he saw something that scared him. And whoever said that one of the best moment was him venting his frustrations on a punching bag, I have to agree. I sure hope maybe the new movie might bring us back that Mikey that was cool, fun loving, but could get down and dirty when he must!

He has all the skill in the world, never really thought about him thinking fighting is a game but it certainly makes sense. I know for an example Jon Dodson and Gegard Moussasi MMA fighters currently in the UFC say they fight best when relaxed. And they have made very successfully careers from doing just that. He's certainly the one with all the personality. They all have their own thing but he is "the party dude" brings all the life into it really. He has that "it factor" really clicks with the imaginative and fun loving people. Myself included.

I would totally agree with this. The funny thing about him is that he really doesn't care all that much about being a ninja. I feel that he is the one who would be most likely to drop it and just walk away from that lifestyle. He has too much spirit and sense of fun and joy to ever take life that seriously for long. He seems dissatisfied with their lifestyle in the movies, to some degree, especially in movie #3, where he wants to remain behind where they are accepted and he can simply be himself. I like that about him, and his easy-going nature just seems very contrary to the strict, hard life that Splinter has raised them with.
That said, he IS depicted as the most gifted in skill and talent of the four, something that rarely gets explored. Why does he care so little, when he can be so incredibly good? Or is THAT the reason why he doesn't- because he knows he could be better than any of them, but has no need to prove it? I also love how he always seems to look for the good in others, which was shown in 2K3 and Nick with Leatherhead, Bradford in Nick again, and with Woody in the IDW comics. I like that optimistic, caring attitude. It's exactly the kind of person I try to be, and what I seek in friends and family. He was my first fictional "crush", for that very reason.

this is pretty much the reason I love Mikey ^_^
in the prequel Nick Comics Splinter does say Mikey has more talent than his four brothers combined....but just doesn't focus enough XD
if Mikey trained as hard as Leo, he'd probably be the most skilled ninja turtle, but then he wouldn't be as fun :D

As much as he would just rather chill and catch a movie while eating pizza he will always answer the call for help and his brothers, as do they all help out their fellow brothers. Like anyone we all have the right to choose our own path and he loves what he loves, pizza, games, tv etc. He also happens to love being a turtle and knows better than the rest how have fun doing that because he is always looking for or sees the fun where the others do not. If he wan't part of the turtles there just wouldn't be enough of a human side to the lot to connect to imo to really make them gel as a team. I've been looking for a thread like this. This question has been brought up in other forums before, but maybe you all can answer for me since is a forum entirely about the franchise. I am re-watching the 1987 cartoon before the new film is released and there has always been something that bothers me. I cannot recall if there was an episode of the series where any villain used a bag/sack to capture Michelangelo. I do recall this happening to other characters on the show.
Raphael in 'Raphael Knocks Em' Dead'
Donatello in Donatello's Degree
Leonardo and Raphael in The Turtles and the Hare
April and Irma in Turtles on the Orient Express
The fake Donatello in Donatello's Duplicate
However, I cannot recall that happening to Michelangelo. Did that ever happen to him in the original series or in any of the other TV shows?

He was captured by Bebop and Rocksteady in Cowabunga Shredhead. He was in a pissy mood that ep and when he was about to fight them he realized that he didn't have his nunchucks and left them back at the lair.

There's a dark side in all of us, nothing is pure black and white.
I'd say Mikey is equivalent of Bubbles from Powerpuff Girls. They may seem sweet and innocent, but when they snapped.. you better stand back, far away.

I like many aspects of Mikey for the 2k12 version. The aspects that were shown in pretty much every medium. What I hate, though is the fact that he's being portrayed as dumb with the attention span of a fly for the sake of humor where no one seems to expect much out of him. I'm glad that season 2 has eased up on this but it's still bothersome.
As someone else put it, I've been spoiled by OT Mikey who had a nice balance. He wasn't dumb, he didn't put his brothers in danger, and was capable of handling stuff. He could be both funny without being dumb. The original trilogy of films as well, he had a nice balanced portrayal.

Hello fellow Mikey fans! I just felt that after recent ups and downs, regarding Mikeys character in the episodes, I needed to write my own thought about him, and why I love the character. (Many of the reasons have already been stated by others in this thread.)
I have had a soft spot for characters with laid pack attitudes, but with true skills and potential, at the moment of need. And while sometimes he could be writed a little too annoying, he always have the moments after, what would make up for his previous silly actions. (And by moments I don’t mean just fighting. One example is in Manhattan project, when they are running from tiger Claw, Mikey is hit and Tiger claw is about to get him. There is that scared look in his face, and in a millisecond it turns into this determined serious look, he throws the smoke bomb allowing all of them to escape). And every time I have those moments for Mikey I don’t care about him being portrayed as the “idiot” rest of the episode.
Because then I know that the writer also know that Mikey is more than just comical relief, and there is more that meets the eye. To be able to truly appreciate those little Mikey moments he kind of needs to be that laid back, goofy, jokester most of the time.(Lately he's been that ALL the time, which is sad) That makes those serious Mikey moments even more special and most of all, it makes him multi dimensional character!
That was until recently. I’ve been sad to notice that lately every other turtle have been allowed to develop as characters, and Mikey was left behind beig only the joke. He does still have those little moments I like, but they are getting more and more rare. Lately I feel that the writers handle him only a joke, and don’t give him any traits among that.
And he shouldn't be forced to prove himself all the time to his brothers. I’m sad that there even need to be something called “Mikey pass” (which Ciro apparently does to every episode). It kinda proves that writers don’t take him seriously. But I’m not giving up(although pizza-face was a slap to the face).
Latest episode proved that all hope is not lost, and Mikey can maybe have his character developed further in the future. (Sorry if I'm ranting in the end, and sorry about possible writing errors.) :)
So those are my thoughts about Mikey. Does that make sense to any of you? Or am I just a crazy fan girl...

Michelangelo has always been my favorite turtle because he is funny, energetic, and I love his love for pizza. Funny and energetic characters are always my favorites. Favorite Mass Effect character, Garrus (he could get pretty serious though) Favorite Lord of the Rings character, Sam (still could get serious), Favorite Lost character, Hurley, so obviously Michelangelo is my favorite. I have a memory of when I was in 2nd grade I was first getting into the TMNT, the teacher asked us to draw our favorite heroes. I drew a picture of Michelangelo, and I didn't know how to spell his name at such a young age so I wrote "The Orange Turtle Guy"

I mean he has my sympathy. :P (Not that I really have any vendetta against her, but... meh. lol)
Guess I'll step out now before I'm beaten with foam nunchucks from his fangirls/boys... (He's awesome though, they all are. ;) )

Yup. ^ This, exactly! Mikey would think it was cool to have a hot movie star fan-girling over him!

I grew up loving Mikey I just love his laid back attitude. Raph is my second favorite.
Michelangelo is awesome. He uses his nunchuks extremely well, he's a master. I also like the fact that he's into skateboarding. His stereotypical Californian surfer accent is the best. His love for pizza is incredible. He must have an amazing metabolism... he devours those pizza like crazy, dude. :P He's totally my favorite TMNT character of all-time.

Oh Mikey, how I love you when you're written with some thought and how I hate you when you're written for comic relief. It's such a shame that I want to strangle even you with each animated incarnation.

I never really thought a lot about Mikey back when I first "met" him. I had all eyes on Leo most of the time. But I will say that I do love Mikey, especially 2k12 Mikey. He has such a good heart and he's a master at the chuks.
I love it when someone is about to die and he swoops in and saves them before it's too late. He also connects with everyone he meets, even the enemies of the show.
I think if the turtles had connections with girls, that Mikey would get a girlfriend first due to his laid back and party attitude. I know when I have a crappy day at work the first thing I like to do is watch a Mikey episode. It really cheers me up. I think if he were a real being that I'd feel the same way with him as a friend.
I also love how his best friend is Raph. The way he immediately calmed Raph in the Invasion is a testament to how powerful he really is. No one could have calmed Raph down at that point.
When he's in the zone, he's in the zone big time. It's awesome when he's in charge and comes through like in Into Dimension X and Parasitica.

In the original cartoon intro Mike used to break dance. Now it's time for us, the dancers, to off our dues for ever GREEN inspiration.
