James Rolfe better known as the Angry Video Game Nerd will be doing Turtle related videos every tuesday through the Summer and he'll apparently be reviewing the OT during those.
The first video is a re-make of his TMNT Generation video thats been up on his angrynintendonerd youtube channel since his start.
http://cinemassacre.com/2011/04/05/generation-t-m-n-t-2003/

Pretty awesome, especially since it was the TMNT NES game review that made the AVGN (and Screwattack) get noticed and a household name so the turtles definitely helped him become an internet celebrity.

when it shows the guys playing with them as if they were kids, it reminds me of that school project that Spitfire did where he's on the floor playing with action figures while wearing a mask.

James is the man. I love that guy. Now I'll have something to look forward to on tuesdays!

I wonder if he'll do new reviews of the movies? He touched upon the first two in his video on TMNT 3, so I wonder if he'll expand on them.

I am shocked that James's friend Mike admitted to going into the theatre to see the first live-action movie having never seen a trailer and assuming it was simply going to be a cartoon. I guess he missed the "Hey, Dudes, this is No Cartoon!" tagline on the threatrical poster? Dang, that's pretty embarrassing.

He seems to have a lot of ideas. Far too many. He keeps saying, "what I would do," but if he made the movie the way he wanted to, it would be a random incoherent mess with way too much $h*t going on. The audience would be lost and the movie would drag on for 7 hours.

They wish they were that cool. :P Let's see them get their Grandmas to swear.

I didn't watch these videos yet. I got this gut feeling he would say crap I wouldn't agree with. He plays it off like he's a huge fan but I can tell he isn't. He just plays it up because it goes along with his whole retro 80's thing. I like his AVGN stuff, though lately it hasn't really been as funny as it once was.

My main issue with him doing these videos is ignorant people will think what he says is true. Any misinformation in his videos will be mistaken as fact. This is why if anyone should be doing reviews of the whole series it should be one of us, or hell all of us.

Totally agree. Thought this was one of the weaker videos I've seen from James and Mike. Hopefully Turtle Tuesdays will be better as it goes along. He has me hyped seeing that he's going to do videos throughout the summer.

No offense to you guys because you put hard work into those but the sound quality on them is very poor. The content is great you just need to work on recording it with better equipment. Sounds like they were done with a web cam mic, correct me if I'm wrong, maybe a headset.

I love the idea but we fans can do better. We can get a huge web presence too, it's actually not very hard. First we wait till he posts one of these videos on Youtube then we do a response, from the real fans, about what he's said wrong. Then we build from there. We could do Turtle Thursdays or something.

People want to see content and learn stuff they never knew. We need to make videos showing the old comics, the history of the creators, stuff about the toyline. We have so much knowledge here we just need to harness it. Plenty of people have camcorders that shoot HD now and while the mic may not be the best ever it'll be better then a standard computer mic.

If we worked at it we could easily do a weekly segment. One fan a week till we cycle through. Write scripts in advance and make sure everyone has a hand in them so we get the best product.

I'm getting way off track here. If anyone is interested though shoot me a PM and maybe we can pull something together.

So true.:P You'll probably need to have the volume up high on most of them. Also, most of the early commentaries have compressed for file space concerns down to around 10 MB.

I think we've made improvement as of Planet of the Turtleoids, since Jester started recording our Skype call directly on his end. Try listening to that one (http://fancommentaries.thetechnodrome.com/files/TMNT_Fan_Commentary_-_Planet_of_the_Tutleoids.mp3) and see if it isn't any better.

If you might allow me to return the constructive criticism, I'd like to point out that "response videos" to other people's media tend to end up pretty lame and consist of mostly petty nit-picks. I would rather see fans attempt to make their own positive contributions instead of telling other people "Hey, you're doin' it WRONG!" ;-)

That's true. Video responses are a good way to get noticed though. You piggy back off another video's success. If it's well made you can steal some audience members from the other video. If our job is to re-inform instead of point out how wrong the other person was we could probably raise interest. Pimp our own series. Just an idea.

This is wrong. James has been doing TMNT stuff since 2003, including reviews for the old school movies and NES games. He's seen every single episode of the original series, he has them all on DVD and a lot on VHS, and he's reviewing the entire series for his TMNT special. He's talked a lot in the past about how TMNT influenced his childhood, and he's wanted to make this series for years now and is finally getting around to it. A poseur would have stopped at the pilot episodes.

This is a good idea, but fans could have been making amazing TMNT videos since the dawn of Youtube... suddenly AVGN is making his series, and only now should the community spring to action?

Jester
04-18-2011, 08:09 PM
Just because he reviewed the games and the movies, doesn't mean he knows jack about the Turtles.

I do agree that fans could make amazing videos....cause we have! It's just that now we can piggy back off of the AVGN...kinda sucks to have to do it, but non of us is as known as him. Face it, if he'd have done this and he wasn't James Rolfe, who would care?

I have no doubt the AVGN is a genuine fan of the franchise (I don't really know anything about his buddy, Mike) and that, like most of us, he owned all that TMNT stuff as a kid. The thing is that he just doesn't pay attention to every aspect of the franchise like the comic books and the more recent TV shows. For the AVGN, his TMNT fandom is mostly nostalgia, trying to remember how he felt back in the day and how cool it might be to see those memories developed for an older audience (namely, himself in his 20-to-30-something entertainment tastes).

Generally speaking, most TMNT fans tend to favor one era of the franchise and either ignore or hold bias against other incarnations. It's pretty much the same way with me and super-heroes. I loved the DC Animated Universe cartoons of the 90s-00s but don't really have much knowledge about the history of the comics, the Superfriends, etc.

I just think you're a hardcore Leo fan who can't deal with Leo being called out like that when, in cast interviews, it has been said that Cam Clarke is a very funny guy and it was a shame that he had to play the serious Turtle that doesn't often get to joke and is mostly limited to being like, "C'mon, Turtles! I endorse this post. :o I don't think Rolfe is trying to "play it off like he's a huge fan." He grew up with the toys, the cartoon, the video games, the movies...and that's his exposure to TMNT. I don't think anyone can say he's not a true TMNT fan simply because he hasn't delved deeper into the franchise's history. (I don't really care for the original cartoon series that much and I hate the third movie, so am I not a true fan?) He does show the First Comics Book I in the first video, so he's at least looked into that much.

I watched the first video and got maybe about halfway through before I lost interest. I personally do feel some of his and Mike's ideas are a little absurd. Bring Krang and the Technodrome but make it more adult? Doesn't really compute in my mind. :p The Ninja Turtles just aren't a subject I care much to hear James and Mike's take on, since I care the most about the Mirage comics and the first movie.

There are a few such subjects where James and Mike's scopes are kinda limited on. They're fans, but not fanatical. But I love hearing them talk about horror movies and such (even though I even disagree on some of the stuff they say there). But, whatever—my scope is limited on a number of the things I enjoy, too; and plus there's the whole "differing opinions" factor. :p

I am a hardcore Leo fan, and I don't like seeing him called out because I respect his character so much :twink:

That said I can totally take the boring thing honestly, because I know Leo's view point of the world in any media is not everyone's cup of tea.

It was more the "useless" remark that kind of gave me a WTF type moment. I mean I have heard Leo called many things (because when your a Leo fan and someone asks you who your favorite Turtle is most of the time you are going to get a negative remark about liking him *laughs*) but I have never had anyone flat out say that Leo isn't needed.

I just don't think that's true. Leo serves a purpose within the family same as each of the other guys do and there is a void when he's not there same as each of the other guys. *shurgs*

For me, I did find Leo to be a boring character, but not a useless one. I guess he was too goody-goody for me. I still like him as much as the others, just can't favor him.

it's not that I disagree...that episode just shows how much they need Leo. It's kinda like Leonardo: Renaissance Turtle only in that one Leo has to face a threat without the aid of the other turtles.

http://cinemassacre.com/2011/04/26/chronologically-confused-about-tmnt-dvds/

He makes some strange mistakes in his analysis, like praising the "Season 4" 2k3 DVD release for collecting all 14 episodes of the season. He didn't even mention that "Plan Six from Outer Space" was included twice on Volume 6 & Season 4 of the Old Toon releases.

Still, the Nerd has a legit beef at the mind-bogglingly odd decisions in how to release the turtles toons on DVD. And he didn't even get into the Turtles Forever fiasco. He probably could have gone on for another 10 minutes about how bad a deal that was.

Also, it looks like he's got a really clear quality copy of "Planet of the Turtleoids." I wanna know where he got that from.:shifty:

This week's video seems to be for people who are not tmnt fans since nearly all of us already know the dvds make no senseI didn't know that about the DVDs. Aside from Volume I of the original series when it first came out, I never collected anything beyond that (lost my job back then, so it was the last thing on my mind) and I don't even have Volume I anymore because I lent it out and never got it back before I could even watch much of it.

Since I'm able to now, I'm ready to go back to collecting, but I had no idea the DVD releases were so screwed or that it's rare to get some of it now.

His last two videos were really entertaining. That's what matters most to me when it comes to James. I'm not expecting him to bring out some new info on the TMNT, I just want to see him talk about the Turtles.
The fact that he talked at all about the new show was a very pleasant surprise.

The fandom has to do something to get the three missing episodes of the OT on DVD, and while we're at it the last two seasons on DVD. Lets not get started on the 2k3 show.

So does this mean that James did not watch the missing episodes or did he get bootleg versions of the missing episodes? Thats what I hope. He had only mentioned the OT but this video clearly proves he's collected the 2k3 show, I hope he reviews that show as well.

It's knowing he's going to say misinformed crap like this that stops me from watching these videos. When I see people spreading misinformation I want to correct them, and usually not very nicely. Silly example but he's said worse. Do your research! If you're going to do a video about characters most people only have a very basic knowledge of do it right. Like I said before idiots will believe anything he says, and that's a big problem.

First of all, I know it's already been talked about, but I just wanted to say something. I believe James is a fan. Just because he doesn't post on this forum or know as much as most of us do about TMNT doesn't mean he's not a fan. People like us are super-fans, and he's a fan, which there is nothing wrong with. And could we not jump all over the guy if he gives out some incorrect info? He said there was 14 episodes in season 4, so what? Who is that going to hurt? I could understand if he said there was 7 turtles and the creators of the TMNT were Jack Kirby and Joe Shuster, but trivial things are only going to bug us and nobody else. And who knows, maybe he just got mixed up at the moment or something. No need to form a lynch mob.

Anyway, now that I've said my piece, I really dug this video, and like Bjarni said, it was a pleasant surprise to hear him talk about the 2K3 show too. I'm hoping that one of his next videos will be a more complete coverage of his action figure collection and maybe MFer Mike's collection that was briefly hinted at in another video.

Wow, overall a very good video by the James! He taught me more than a few things I didn't know, on account of his exhaustive knowledge of classic B-level monster movies. I do agree with Jester on the one criticism; I felt like he probably just wasted a minute or so pretending he was mishearing lines of dialogue. Even he admitted Ninja Turtles is not one of those shows that adults can really rewatch and discern suggestive double meanings. And, for the record, the expression "puss" (as in sourpuss, picklepuss, etc.) was never considered controversial in cartoons of those days (he actually kept pronouncing it like it was a different word).

I really enjoyed this week's video. It's always fun watching these episodes now. As a kid, I didn't catch half of the pop culture references jammed into each episode. When he touches on monster movies, it really gives a good summary of those references since I had never seen any of those movies when I first saw tmnt.

It seemed like he thought he caught an audio goof so he decided to devote a segment to it. The problem, however, is that none of the audio "profanity" he explains seems legitimate. The only one he mentions that might even be close is "pu$$Y" and even that is a stretch. It sounded more like puss.

Fun video.

I was kind of hoping James would do a quick overview of the series like what went on in each season and so on but I guess this is interesting as well. I'm guessing we won't get the third part for another 2 weeks and next week we'll get a non-OT video like last time. I also wonder if the OT review was only 3 parts what else will he review. He never mentioned the 2k3 show but he seems to have the DVDs so I hope he'll talk about that show. Besides that he's already talked about pretty much everything of the turtles except the comics, TNM and the videogames outside of the first one. I mean he said this would continue through out the summer.

I think the best thing about the new video was seeing all the tropes mashed together. I saw a lot of scenes I haven't seen since I was a kid. I'm also happy that he talked about "Turtles, Turtles everywhere". That episode was so good that I was planning on doing my own retrospective on it. Michelangelo's comment on the music is still one of my all time favorite moments.

He also did a good retrospective on the Technodrome. I loved seeing all the different animation styles it went through in the show.

The cursing was the most James-like. The bucking one was the best one.

The first two movies.
The Mirage comics

When I watched Leonardo: Renaissance Turtle April's line made me laugh. I'm sure I didn't get it at a kid. That is the only one, though, that's even remotely "adult" of those lines he mentioned.

Finally saw this. You know, I was waiting for some "real innuendos" or stuff that could've been perceived as such, like Attack of the Big Macc (I don't care what anyone says, someone knew what they were drawing and it slipped past the censors; I have the screenshots to prove it! ><).

For instance, he showed scenes from Shredderville and Turtles of the Jungle.

For Shredderville, it could sound "wrong" or misinterpreted as such after the lights went out, and Shredder is telling Donny, "Do not touch that! I forbid it!" I guess he preferred it to be April or Irma? *shot* That could so be taken out of context, especially since you don't know what Shredder's talking about until after Leo (which should've been Donny) turned the lights on. Yay for another art error. :trazz:

As for Turtles of the Jungle, the "spanking the monkey" line Donny had could be a double innuendo.

That aside, I loved this video. It was funny and I love all the references to old B-movies. I think he summed it up best. It's so corny that it's funny, especially seeing it as an adult and getting all the jokes.

BTW, I know for a fact there was one pizza they did NOT try -- probably because it would have been impossible. In one episode I had Michelangelo serving up a pizza with anchovies and BUBBLEGUM!

Great video, couple of nitpicks though:

1. He never uses the black and white Mirage comics when referring to them, always the colored versions.

2. He didn't mention that after season 4, they started using the first episode of each subsequent season to serve as "season finale" to the last. Ya know, with having something big go down with the Technodrome and all.

3. He didn't showcase the OT replacement VA's from Turtles Forever. Raphael's voice actor definitely deserved some props.

Hey, cool, that was the first time I've ever seen the TMNT bumpers from the USA Express programming block. @5:59

I think James had his expectations too high regarding "season finales." While some seasons of TMNT and other cartoons made an attempt to have a big adventure to end the year, most kid's cartoons at that time didn't really bother, especially since the episodes might just be aired out of order anyway. The whole "Season" concept wasn't quite as important back in the early 90s as it is today.

He's so far shown a trend of doing one "quirky" video between show recap videos. He's been pretty creative with this so it's hard to predict, but I'm going to guess that his next video will be about bizarre TMNT oddities like the live action show, the Japanese anime, the PSA, TMNT ripoffs/references, etc.

I've seen all these. Sofar so good. I agree with another poster that he is very informative about some of the themes in the show. I already knew they watched old, cheesy sci-fis, and that the names were mocks of actual movies. Some of the quotes were mocks of movies too, like when Leo in an episode said, "I'm mad as heck and I'm not gonna take it anymore!" (don't think James mentioned that tho). What I didn't know tho is that the dvd releases were so effed, as I don't have all of them. But yeah, it definitely is like another "Chronologically Confused" type ep.

Back when Steve Murphy still had his TMNT blog, I remember him doing a post on how it was originally going to be Man Ray in the "Rebel Without a Fin" episode but the cartoon's creative minds wanted to make him into a bad guy. Murphy (or somebody at Mirage) protested and they changed the character to a generic fishman named "Ray."

I really do hope he does do something on The Next Mutation. My memory of that series is extremely vague. I remember liking it. I used to tape it and watch it when I got home from school. I was in high school at the time, so I never got home in time to watch it, usually and for my second year of HS, I was usually pretty busy. I remember Venus and liking her character because of the magic aspect to it. I remember there was a crossover with the Power Rangers. I remember Mikey not having nunchucks and using tonfakata. I remember Mikey hitting on Venus like he wanted a date and Raph not liking Venus. I don't remember anything pertaining to enemies, plot, how they met Venus, etc. So, if James does do something on TNM, it'd be a nice refresher for me.I hate OT Leo, but love Usagi. Even if he were an annoying character, his episodes were well written, action packed, and had good animation. IDK what James is thinking on this one.I didn't even find him [Usagi] annoying...but the fact that he put him on the same level as Mr. Ogg is just wrong to me. ><

Oh, and I had nothing against OT Leo either. I did used to like his heroic speeches and sense of honor thing, but, of course, for me, Raph and Mikey were the ones I liked (as a kid). Leo was boring to me and Donny was just there. Since going back, I like OT Donny!!

I reviewed TNM in a thread here (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=28452) about a year ago or so, I'll probably update it when I re-watch TNM again.

James said he'd continue through out the summer so I'm guessing he'll continue at least through all of July. I don't think he would re-touch on stuff he's already covered especially since he compiled all the links of his previous TMNT videos after his first update. He already touched upon the first two movies in the third movie review and now in the OT review so I doubt he'll cover them again. Turtles Forever was also covered for the most part in the OT review so who knows if he'll review it separately, not much else he can say about it. James only mentioned he was going to watch all of the OT, he never mentioned any other TMNT media, I doubt he'll cover the anime or TNM at least not in a full review like the OT. 2K3 there is a chance since he did show the DVDs but I'm guessing it won't be a full series review and just some of the episodes he saw? Obscure stuff like the Manga is probably not going to happen, but forgotten/rare/weird stuff like merchandise from the late 80s/early 90s is a possibility if he owns it. I'm sure he'll cover the Mirage comics though he's already kinda gone through with it a little bit in the OT review and I doubt he has a bunch of issues, I'm sure he just has a few including the color one he keeps showing when talking about the comics. Archie comics might get a small mention not a full retrospective. I'm guessing the videogames will probably get a video, he's only talked about the first one. You have to remember James loves the turtles but he isn't a hardcore fan like say most here.

What does that mean?
There was a thread a while ago about David Wise basically not being hip enough for the new show. Counting he doesn't know how to use the word hipster means Nick was probably right ;b Just a joke, don't take it too seriously.

Man, James must have bad memory or just be blindingly trusting the serial numbers on the DVDs...

The Turtles ran on CBS Saturdays AND weekdays at the SAME TIME. Which was confusing for the fans because they now had 2 stories to follow. CBS had 2 eps, the first one dealing with Shredder and company, and the second one focusing on one of the Turtles and usually against a mad scientist or something. That's why we had so many episodes named after the Turtles in the DVDs. The first ep was Dimension X Story, I remember it clear as day.

However, weekdays would crank out a week of new episodes once every whenever... Their first ep was Plan 9 from Channel 6, and they had eps like... Rondo in New York, the Howie eps, the one about the movie monsters, etc.

So we had 2 versions happening at once... one where the Technodrome would be destroyed cause it was blasted upon and stuck on dimension x someplace (Plan 9) and one where it was specifically on an asteroid with a volcano (Dimension X Story). And even though the CBS eps changed stuff like having the Techndrome on the bottom of the ocean or in the antartic, the weekdays eps kept them on the dimension x asteroid. It was a confusing time. I favored the CBS eps more though cause they featured more of the newer toy characters like Mondo Gecko, Slash and such.

I thought he would mention April's ever changing bust size, sometimes it would seem it was huge because of the cleavage line they drew on her, however other times not only would they not draw a cleavage line but her jumpsuit was unzipped extremely low, so for there to be no cleavage line would mean that she is flat chested. Only logic I can find is that maybe they were only allowed to draw a "big" cleavage line if her jumpsuit was "zipped up" and they were able to sneak in the jumpsuit "zipped down" if they didn't draw a cleavage line? That always bothers me, not so much the inconsistency in size but how is it even possible for so much of her chest to be shown without a hint of a cleavage line. Re-reading that makes me sound perverted but it just looks anatomically wrong and this is the OT we're talking about.

Anyways, I wonder if anyone can think of an in-continuity reason for the animation mistakes like different bandannas/voices  I'm still not sure how they were able to mess up the voices. Thought this episode was going to show stuff I was aware off but for the most part I wasn't aware of most of them and it was very funny indeed. I wonder if the still frames were animated wrong and there wasn't time to correct them in time so they just did it in a still shot or there was no budget to finish the episode like the final episodes of Evangelion.

And since I already went there, was anyone else bothered by the fact that in the 2k3 show it looks like you can see Aprils butt crack? I'm assuming its meant to be her "back" line, but the way its positioned and because its mostly shown when she's squatting it really does look like a butt crack, I'm guessing they noticed since it doesn't happen (as often?) in later seasons. My first reaction was how did they allow that. And definitely off topic but was it too hard to color April's midriff purple when she's wearing her labcoat? That looks so odd, it couldn't have been hard I think its done in a future episode why have her midriff exposed in a more "professional" lab environment?

Pop it in and find out. If you need help, load up the Fan Commentary (http://fancommentaries.thetechnodrome.com/files/TMNT_Fan_Commentary_-_Wererats_from_Channel_6.mp3) at the 17 minute, 30 second mark.

It's so drawn out that many people seem to miss it for some reason. But it's the biggest animation problem I've ever seen in a Saturday morning.

I can't. But if you could simply explain it...

I agree.

My theory on how she got away with the midriff at Stocktronics was that the nightshift was pretty much a two person operation between April & Baxter, thus she probably was allowed to wear whatever she wanted. :ohwell:

And if we go by the Dreamwave comic adaptation, perhaps Stockman kinda liked it better that way.

I just wish I could watch James' video, but from what I hear, he must mention the 2 Turtle Vans from New York's Shiniest.

Yup, it only makes the list at #11, however.

Re-reading that makes me sound perverted but it just looks anatomically wrong and this is the OT we're talking about

This is not anatomically impossible. In simple terms, zipping squishes them together, unzipping does not. You have to be squished together to have a cleavage line. Unless the big boobs are fakes and don't move......real ones just don't work that way.

I can't believe I just responded to this but take it from me.....I know what I'm saying. I've been "blessed" since I was 11 or so.

I thought most of his choices were funny and that's what the video was really about.

The skeleton is pretty creepy though. :o

I actually thought there was something wrong with my DVD while watching "Turtle Terminator", when all the still shots came.

I actually thought there was something wrong with my DVD while watching "Turtle Terminator", when all the still shots came.

There are numerous times in the show when the animation seems to freeze up, the most notable example I can think of is in "Hot Rodding Teenagers from Dimension X," when Tragg and Granitor start shooting at the turtles/April/Neutrinos at the video arcade and we hear laser blasters without seeing anything coming out of their guns.

Not having watching the VHS tapes in years, I cannot confirm whether or not this is a problem with the DVD or (most likely) just the way it was made.

Finally watched it....he did miss some of the more obvious flubs. I'll mention an episode and you tell me what he could have done: A THING ABOUT RATS!

Oh, yes, that final little bit with everybody in the van. Ugh... shame on you, Fred Wolf Films! :-)

I'm going to assume that the "skeleton man" at the end is just a prop/puppet and not an actual man, kinda disappointed it was the last one since it wasn't an animation error but it was still worth a laugh, and when the still frame is paused the skeleton is indeed a bit creepy. I propose we should have one of those never works online petition to bring back skeleton man for Nick's TMNT.

Adam and I try in the commentaries...we attribute it to "ninja trickery." See the end of Donatello's Duplicate

You know, as simple as that is it works perfectly in the OT universe and from now on will be my official in-universe explanation of such animation errors. I really like it.

Well the ones I'm talking about usually fall very close to the TV Trope, AbsoluteCleavage (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AbsoluteCleavage). I don't have a screenshot though, but yeah its especially bad in one episode were you can see too much of her chest and just looks odd.

I'm pretty sure it's an across the board error, as it's in the copy of The Epic Begins I have.

It is, I happened to watch the "Hot Rodding Teens" VHS recently and its there. It's forgivable though, because the following battle scene is one of the best in the series. :twink:

I'm normally a hater of all red bandannas but it actually felt pretty cool to see Leonardo with a red bandanna attack Shredder. Anyone else wish that 2k3 would have had an intentional animation error as a homage to the OT?

I'm not a hater of it, so I thought that was awesome. Gonna have to make a gif out of it for AndrewNDB. I don't wish for 2k3 to have had an intentional error, but it would've been cool if they wore all red masks to try and trick Casey or something. That woulda been a neat kickback to the comics.

I liked that countdown, but I can't believe he didn't reference the mistake in "Turtle Tracks" where there were 2 Leonardos and 2 Raphaels. That was like the most famous mistake ever, and it was in the very first episode no less!

They did in the episode where Splinter is telling April their back story and he's introducing each of the Turtles and they all do cool moves with there weapons, except Mike who hits himself in the head; but they are all wearing red bandannas.

@ oldmanwinters:
I always was amazed at three scenes in 'hot rodding teenagers from dimension x':1. in that fight scene in front of the arcade the circular motion into the camera of that torpedo...man that always stuck out for me as a great piece of animation..was quite charmed when I saw those comming back in the 2k3 series 3rd season finale 'exodus' and of course again used in the great 'turtles forever'...;)
2.when general traag stes the atomic wheather maker(or what thats gadget's name was) free, it rises and rises into the sky and then it seems to stop in midair and starts sending out these waves...great!
3.lastly when leonardo destroys that thing in the end flying down with his katana striking it in two pieces and then he falls and we see the weather changing while he is falling down to earth...'long whistle' that was amazing, man...
but there were many amazing things happening visually in the first short season...;)

I also have two different versions of the arcade shoot out, one showing the stone soldiers shooting lasers, one with a frozen image and blaster sounds running over it...
the same thing goes for the introductory scene with michelangelo, in germany where we got the censored(and therefore nunchuk-free) version they let mike interrupt and finnish splinter's sentence naming himself 'the master of the twirling pizzas' in fun...;)
I got another version that just shows him working the chucks....but in my version they are sporting their 'cartoon original' different colored bandanas and not the red ones...

Oh, yeah, I totally am with you 100%! I think Hot Roddin' Teenagers from Dimension X has the best overall animation in the 5-episode pilot season!
